Dynamics of nodal points and the nodal count on a family of quantum graphs

We investigate the properties of the zeros of the eigenfunctions on quantum graphs (metric graphs with a Schrödinger-type differential operator). Using tools such as scattering approach and eigenvalue interlacing inequalities we derive several formulas relating the number of the zeros of the n-th eigenfunction to the spectrum of the graph and of some of its subgraphs. In a special case of the so-called dihedral graph we prove an explicit formula that only uses the lengths of the edges, entirely bypassing the information about the graph's eigenvalues. The results are explained from the point of view of the dynamics of zeros of the solutions to the scattering problem.

The Isospectral Fruits of Representation Theory: Quantum Graphs and Drums

We present a method which enables one to construct isospectral objects, such as quantum graphs and drums. One aspect of the method is based on representation theory arguments which are shown and proved. The complementary part concerns techniques of assembly which are both stated generally and demonstrated. For that purpose, quantum graphs are grist to the mill. We develop the intuition that stands behind the construction as well as the practical skills of producing isospectral objects. We discuss the theoretical implications which include Sunada's theorem of isospectrality arising as a particular case of this method. A gallery of new isospectral examples is presented and some known examples are shown to result from our theory.

Linear Representations and Isospectrality with Boundary Conditions

We present a method for constructing families of isospectral systems, using linear representations of finite groups. We focus on quantum graphs, for which we give a complete treatment. However, the method presented can be applied to other systems such as manifolds and two-dimensional drums. This is demonstrated by reproducing some known isospectral drums, and new examples are obtained as well. In particular, Sunada's method is a special case of the one presented.

Nodal domains on graphs - How to count them and why?

The purpose of the present manuscript is to collect known results and present some new ones relating to nodal domains on graphs, with special emphasize on nodal counts. Several methods for counting nodal domains will be presented, and their relevance as a tool in spectral analysis will be discussed.

Nodal domains on isospectral quantum graphs: the resolution of isospectrality ?

We present and discuss isospectral quantum graphs which are not isometric. These graphs are the analogues of the isospectral domains in R2 which were introduced recently and are all based on Sunada's construction of isospectral domains. After presenting some of the properties of these graphs, we discuss a few examples which support the conjecture that by counting the nodal domains of the corresponding eigenfunctions one can resolve the isospectral ambiguity.
