Eidolon: A Post-Quantum Signature Scheme Based on k-Colorability in the Age of Graph Neural Networks

We propose Eidolon, a post-quantum signature scheme grounded on the NP-complete k-colorability problem. Our construction generalizes the Goldreich-Micali-Wigderson zero-knowledge protocol to arbitrary k >= 3, applies the Fiat-Shamir transform, and uses Merkle-tree commitments to compress signatures from O(tn) to O(t log n). We generate hard instances by planting a coloring while aiming to preserve the statistical profile of random graphs. We present an empirical security analysis of such a scheme against both classical solvers (ILP, DSatur) and a custom graph neural network (GNN) attacker. Experiments show that for n >= 60, neither approach is able to recover a valid coloring matching the planted solution, suggesting that well-engineered k-coloring instances can resist the considered classical and learning-based cryptanalytic approaches. These experiments indicate that the constructed instances resist the attacks considered in our evaluation.

Equivariant K-homology and K-theory for some discrete planar affine groups

We consider the semi-direct products $G=\mathbb Z^2\rtimes GL_2(\mathbb Z), \mathbb Z^2\rtimes SL_2(\mathbb Z)$ and $\mathbb Z^2\rtimes\Gamma(2)$ (where $\Gamma(2)$ is the congruence subgroup of level 2). For each of them, we compute both sides of the Baum-Connes conjecture, namely the equivariant $K$-homology of the classifying space $\underline{E}G$ for proper actions on the left-hand side, and the analytical K-theory of the reduced group $C^*$-algebra on the right-hand side. The computation of the LHS is made possible by the existence of a 3-dimensional model for $\underline{E}G$, which allows to replace equivariant K-homology by Bredon homology. We pay due attention to the presence of torsion in $G$, leading to an extensive study of the wallpaper groups associated with finite subgroups. For the second and third groups, the computations in $K_0$ provide explicit generators that are matched by the Baum-Connes assembly map.

A model structure for locally constant factorization algebras

Several model structures related to the homotopy theory of locally constant factorization algebras are constructed. This answers a question raised by D. Calaque in his habilitation thesis. Our methods also solve a problem related to cosheafification and factorization algebras identified by O. Gwilliam - K. Rejzner in the locally constant case.

A cryptographic application of the Thurston norm

We discuss some applications of 3-manifold topology to cryptography. In particular, we propose a public-key and a symmetric-key cryptographic scheme based on the Thurston norm on the first cohomology of hyperbolic manifolds.

Cellular covers of local groups

We prove that, in the category of groups, the composition of a cellularization and a localization functor need not be idempotent. This provides a negative answer to a question of Emmanuel Dror Farjoun.

Homotopy colimits of nilpotent spaces

We show that cellular approximations of nilpotent Postnikov stages are always nilpotent Postnikov stages, in particular classifying spaces of nilpotent groups are turned into classifying spaces of nilpotent groups. We use a modified Bousfield-Kan homology completion tower z_k X whose terms we prove are all X-cellular for any X. As straightforward consequences, we show that if X is K-acyclic and nilpotent for a given homology theory K, then so are all its Postnikov sections, and that any nilpotent space for which the space of pointed self-maps map_*(X,X) is "canonically" discrete must be aspherical.

On the idempotency of some composite functors

In this note we present examples of localization functors (in the category of spaces) whose composition with certain cellularization functors is not idempotent, and vice versa.
