Joint Modeling of Received Power, Mean Delay, and Delay Spread for Wideband Radio Channels

We propose a multivariate log-normal distribution to jointly model received power, mean delay, and root mean square (rms) delay spread of wideband radio channels, referred to as the standardized temporal moments. The model is validated using experimental data collected from five different measurement campaigns (four indoor and one outdoor scenario). We observe that the received power, mean delay and rms delay spread are correlated random variables and, therefore, should be simulated jointly. Joint models are able to capture the structure of the underlying process, unlike the independent models considered in the literature. The proposed model of the multivariate log-normal distribution is found to be a good fit for a large number of wideband data-sets.

Capacity and Error Rate Analysis of MIMO Satellite Communication Systems in Fading Scenarios

In this paper, we investigated the capacity and bit error rate (BER) performance of Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) satellite systems with single and multiple dual polarized satellites in geostationary orbit and a mobile ground receiving station with multiple antennas. We evaluated the effects of both system parameters such as number of satellites, number of receive antennas, and SNR and environmental factors including atmospheric signal attenuations and signal phase disturbances on the overall system performance using both analytical and spatial models for MIMO satellite systems.

A Robust MUSIC Based Scheme for Interference Location in Satellite Systems with Multibeam Antennas

In this paper, we investigate methods for interference location in satellite communication system using satellite multi-beam antenna with subspace based schemes. A novel MUSIC based approach is proposed for estimating the direction of arrival of the interfering sources. The proposed method provides super resolution and asymptotic maximum likelihood estimates of the direction of arrivals even at low SNR values. Simulations were performed using typical satellite multi-beam antenna configurations and results show that the proposed scheme can effectively estimates the direction of arrival in the azimuth and elevation spectra. Compared to the support vector regression method, the proposed approach offer improved estimation accuracy at low SNR values.

Parametric Schemes for Prediction of Wideband MIMO Wireless Channels

Information on the future state of time varying frequency selective channels can significantly enhance the effectiveness of feedback in adaptive and limited feedback MIMO-OFDM systems. This paper investigates the parametric extrapolation of wideband MIMO channels using variations of the double directional MIMO model. We propose three predictors which estimate parameters of the channel using 4D, 3D and 2D extensions of the ESPRIT algorithm and predict future states of the channel using the models. Furthermore, using the vector formulation of the Cramer Rao lower bound for functions of parameters, we derive a bound on the prediction error in wideband MIMO channels. Numerical simulations are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithms under different channel and transmission conditions, and a comparison is made with the derived error bound.

An Asymptotic Bound on Estimation and Prediction of Mobile MIMO-OFDM Wireless Channels

In this paper, we derive an asymptotic closed--form expression for the error bound on extrapolation of doubly selective mobile MIMO wireless channels. The bound shows the relationship between the prediction error and system design parameters such as bandwidth, number of antenna elements, and number of frequency and temporal pilots, thereby providing useful insights into the effects of these parameters on prediction performance. Numerical simulations show that the asymptotic bound provides a good approximation to previously derived bounds while eliminating the need for repeated computation and dependence on channel parameters such as angles of arrival and departure, delays and Doppler shifts.
