Anisotropic generalization of well-known solutions describing relativistic self-gravitating fluid systems: An algorithm

We present an algorithm to generalize a plethora of well-known solutions to Einstein field equations describing spherically symmetric relativistic fluid spheres by relaxing the pressure isotropy condition on the system. By suitably fixing the model parameters in our formulation, we generate closed-form solutions which may be treated as anisotropic generalization of a large class of solutions describing isotropic fluid spheres. From the resultant solutions, a particular solution is taken up to show its physical acceptability. Making use of the current estimate of mass and radius of a known pulsar, the effects of anisotropic stress on the gross physical behaviour of a relativistic compact star is also highlighted.

A family of solutions to the Einstein-Maxwell system of equations describing relativistic charged fluid spheres

In this paper, we present a formalism to generate a family of interior solutions to the Einstein-Maxwell system of equations for a spherically symmetric relativistic charged fluid sphere matched to the exterior Reissner-Nordström spacetime. By reducing the Einstein-Maxwell system to a recurrence relation with variable rational coefficients, we show that it is possible to obtain closed-form solutions for a specific range of the model parameters. A large class of solutions obtained previously are shown to be contained in our general class of solutions. We also analyze the physical viability of our new class of solutions.

Anisotropic extension of Finch and Skea stellar model

In this paper, the spacetime geometry of Finch and Skea [Class. Quantum Grav., 6 (1989) 467] has been utilized to obtain closed-form solutions for a spherically symmetric anisotropic matter distribution. By examining its physical admissibility, it has been shown that the class of solutions can be used as viable models for observed pulsars. In particular, a specific class of solutions can be used as an `anisotropic switch' to examine the impact of anisotropy on the gross physical properties of a stellar configuration. Accordingly, the mass-radius relationship has been analyzed.

Modeling Anisotropic Stars Obeying Chaplygin Equation of State

In this work we provide a framework for modeling compact stars in which the interior matter distribution obeys a generalised Chaplygin equation of state. The interior geometry of the stellar object is described by a spherically symmetric line element which is simultaneously comoving and isotropic with the exterior spacetime being vacuum. We are able to integrate the Einstein field equations and present closed form solutions which adequately describe compact strange star candidates like Her X-1, RX J 1856-37, PSRJ 1614-2230 and SAX J1808.4-3658.

Gravitational collapse of a circularly symmetric star

We investigate the collapse of a circularly symmetric star with outgoing radiation in ($2+1$)-dimensional anti-de Sitter spacetime. The exterior spacetime of the collapsing star is assumed to be described by the non-static generalization of the Bañados, Teitelboim and Zanelli [{\em Phys. Rev. Lett.} {\bf 69} (1992) 1849 ] metric. Making use of the junction conditions joining smoothly the interior and the exterior spacetimes across the boundary, we analyze the impacts of various factors on the evolution of the star which begins its collapse from an initial static configuration. In particular, depending on initial conditions, two possible outcomes of the collapse process are shown: (i) formation of a BTZ black hole, and (ii) evaporation of all mass-energy even before the singularity is reached.

Noncommutative geometry inspired 3-dimensional charged black hole solution in an anti-de Sitter background space-time

We report a 3D charged black hole solution in an anti desetter space inspired by noncommutative geometry. In this construction, the black hole exhibits two horizon which turn into a single horizon in the extreme case.We investigate the impacts of the electromagnetic field on the location of the event horizon, mass and thermodynamic properties such as Hawking temperature, entropy and heat capacity of the black hole. The geodesics of the charged black hole are also analyzed.

A class of conformally flat solutions for systems undergoing radiative gravitational collapse

We present a class of conformally flat solutions of the Einstein's field equations for spherical systems undergoing gravitational collapse accompanied with radial heat flux. The interior space-time of the collapsing matter is chosen to be conformal to the Robertson-Walker space-time so that its Weyl tensor vanishes identically. The conditions which ensure smooth matching of the interior space-time of the collapsing system, across its boundary, with the exterior space-time of a radiating star which is described by Vaidya metric lead to an equation governing its overall subsequent evolution. New solutions of this equation have been shown to provide physically viable models of collapsing stars.

Exact solutions in (2 + 1)-dimensional anti-de Sitter space-time admitting a linear or non-linear equation of state

Gravitational analyzes in lower dimensions has become a field of active research interest ever since Banados, Teitelboim and Zanelli (BTZ) (Phys. Rev. Lett. 69, 1849, 1992) proved the existence of a black hole solution in (2 + 1) dimensions. The BTZ metric has inspired many investigators to develop and analyze circularly symmetric stellar models which can be matched to the exterior BTZ metric. We have obtained two new classes of solutions for a (2 + 1)-dimensional anisotropic star in anti-de Sitter background space-time which have been obtained by assuming that the equation of state (EOS) describing the material composition of the star could either be linear or non-linear in nature. By matching the interior solution to the BTZ exterior metric with zero spin, we have demonstrated that the solutions provided here are regular and well-behaved at the stellar interior.

Gravitational collapse in spatially isotropic coordinates

We investigate the dynamical nature of the collapse process of a spherically symmetric star in quasi-static hydrodynamical equilibrium. The star collapses from an initial static configuration by dissipating energy in the form of a radial heat flux. The dissipation ensures that the singularity is never formed and the stellar mass completely evaporates over a finite time.

Relativistic stellar model admitting a quadratic equation of state

A class of solutions describing the interior of a static spherically symmetric compact anisotropic star is reported. The analytic solution has been obtained by utilizing the Finch and Skea ({\it Class. Quant. Grav.} {\bf 6} (1989) 467) ansatz for the metric potential $g_{rr}$ which has a clear geometric interpretation for the associated background space-time. Based on physical grounds appropriate bounds on the model parameters have been obtained and it has been shown that the model admits an equation of state (EOS) which is quadratic in nature.

Finch-Skea star in (2+1) dimensions

The Bañados, Teitelboim and Zanelli\cite{BTZ} solution corresponding to the exterior space-time of a black hole in $(2+1)$ dimensions has been found to be very useful to understand various aspects relating to the gravitational field of a black hole. We present here a class of interior solutions corresponding to the BTZ exterior by making use of a model presented by Finch and Skea\cite{Finch} which was earlier found to be relevant for the description realistic stars in $(3+1)$ dimensions. We show physical viability of the model in lower dimensions as well.

A relativistic model for Strange Quark Star

We propose a spherically symmetric and anisotropic model for strange quark stars within the framework of MIT Bag model. Though the model is found to comply with all the physical requirements of a realistic star satisfying a strange matter equation of state (EOS), the estimated values the Bag constant for different strange star candidates like Her X-1, SAX J 1808.4-3658 and 4U 1820-30, clearly indicate that the Bag constant need not necessarily lie within the range of 60-80 MeV fm$^{-3}$ as claimed in the literature.

Strange stars in Krori-Barua space-time

The singularity space-time metric obtained by Krori and Barua\cite{Krori1975} satisfies the physical requirements of a realistic star. Consequently, we explore the possibility of applying the Krori and Barua model to describe ultra-compact objects like strange stars. For it to become a viable model for strange stars, bounds on the model parameters have been obtained. Consequences of a mathematical description to model strange stars have been analyzed.

Singularity-free dark energy star

We propose a model for an anisotropic dark energy star where we assume that the radial pressure exerted on the system due to the presence of dark energy is proportional to the isotropic perfect fluid matter density. We discuss various physical features of our model and show that the model satisfies all the regularity conditions and stable as well as singularity-free.

A class of interior solutions corresponding to a $(2+1)$ dimensional asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime

Lower dimensional gravity has the potential of providing non-trivial and valuable insight into some of the conceptual issues arising in four dimensional relativistic gravitational analysis. The asymptotically anti-de Sitter (2+1) dimensional spacetime described by Ba$\tilde{n}$ados, Teitelboim and Zanelli (BTZ) which admits a black hole solution, has become a source of fascination for theoretical physicists in recent years. By suitably choosing the form of the mass function $m(r)$, we derive a new class of solutions for the interior of an isotropic star corresponding to the exterior (2+1) asymptotically anti-de Sitter BTZ spacetime. The solution obtained satisfies all the regularity conditions and its simple analytical form helps us to study the physical parameters of the configuration in a simple manner.

The Einstein's field equations in this construction are solved for specific choices of the density/mass functions. We analyze the behavior of the model parameters like radial and transverse pressures, density and surface tension.
