For the use of exterior form in daily physics, an introduction without coordinate frame

This is a short introduction of the exterior form formalism focus on its applications in physics and then mostly aimed to physics students. As a rule of a game played here we never use a coordinate frame neither in the definitions nor in the proofs but only at the end in order to recover the classical physics equations. This approach is unusual but we think is helpful for the understanding and very valuable to grab the physical meanings of the mathematical object.

A new look at Perturbation Theory in QFT and Resolvent Series

We give a short introduction for elementary mathematical tools used in the context of Quantum Field Theory. These notes were motivated by a reading group in Lyon on Talagrand's book «What is Quantum Field Theory, A First Introduction for Mathematicians».

Random centers of localization for random operators

We propose a new random process to construct the eigenvectors of some random operators which make a short and clean connection with the resolvent. In this process the center of localization has to be chosen randomly.

Localized phase for the Erdős-Rényi graph

We analyse the eigenvectors of the adjacency matrix of the Erdős-Rényi graph $\mathbb G(N,d/N)$ for $\sqrt{\log N} \ll d \lesssim \log N$. We show the existence of a localized phase, where each eigenvector is exponentially localized around a single vertex of the graph. This complements the completely delocalized phase previously established in [arXiv:2005.14180]. For large enough $d$, we establish a mobility edge by showing that the localized phase extends up to the boundary of the delocalized phase. We derive explicit asymptotics for the localization length up to the mobility edge and characterize its divergence near the phase boundary. The proof is based on a rigorous verification of Mott's criterion for localization, comparing the tunnelling amplitude between localization centres with the eigenvalue spacing. The first main ingredient is a new family of global approximate eigenvectors, for which sharp enough estimates on the tunnelling amplitude can be established. The second main ingredient is a lower bound on the spacing of approximate eigenvalues. It follows from an anticoncentration result for these discrete random variables, obtained by a recursive application of a self-improving anticoncentration estimate due to Kesten.

Spectral gap and embedded trees for the Laplacian of the Erdős-Rényi graph

For the Erdős-Rényi graph of size $N$ with mean degree $(1+o(1))\frac{\log N}{t+1}\leq d\leq(1-o(1))\frac{\log N}{t}$ where $t\in\mathbb{N}^{*}$, with high probability the smallest non zero eigenvalue of the Laplacian is equal to $2-2\cos(π(2t+1)^{-1})+o(1)$. This eigenvalue arises from a small subgraph isomorphic to a line of size $t$ linked to the giant connected component by only one edge.

Full large deviation principles for the largest eigenvalue of sub-Gaussian Wigner matrices

We establish precise upper-tail asymptotics and large deviation principles for the rightmost eigenvalue $\lambda_1$ of Wigner matrices with sub-Gaussian entries. In contrast to the case of heavier tails, where deviations of $\lambda_1$ are due to the appearance of a few large entries, and the sharp sub-Gaussian case that is governed by the collective deviation of entries in a delocalized rank-one pattern, we show that the general sub-Gaussian case is determined by a mixture of localized and delocalized effects. Our key result is a finite-$N$ approximation for the upper tail of $\lambda_1$ by an optimization problem involving \emph{restricted annealed free energies} for a spherical spin glass model. This new type of argument allows us to derive full large deviation principles when the log-Laplace transform of the entries' distribution $\mu$ has bounded second derivative, whereas previous results required much more restrictive assumptions, namely sharp sub-Gaussianity and symmetry, or only covered certain ranges of deviations. We show that the sharp sub-Gaussian condition characterizes measures $\mu$ for which the rate function coincides with that of the Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble (GOE). When $\mu$ is not sharp sub-Gaussian, at a certain distance from the bulk of the spectrum there is a transition from the GOE rate function to a non-universal rate function depending on $\mu$, and this transition coincides with the onset of a localization phenomenon for the associated eigenvector.

Poisson statistics and localization at the spectral edge of sparse Erdős-Rényi graphs

We consider the adjacency matrix $A$ of the Erdős-Rényi graph on $N$ vertices with edge probability $d/N$. For $(\log \log N)^4 \ll d \lesssim \log N$, we prove that the eigenvalues near the spectral edge form asymptotically a Poisson process and the associated eigenvectors are exponentially localized. As a corollary, at the critical scale $d \asymp \log N$, the limiting distribution of the largest nontrivial eigenvalue does not match with any previously known distribution. Together with [arXiv:2005.14180], our result establishes the coexistence of a fully delocalized phase and a fully localized phase in the spectrum of $A$. The proof relies on a three-scale rigidity argument, which characterizes the fluctuations of the eigenvalues in terms of the fluctuations of sizes of spheres of radius 1 and 2 around vertices of large degree.

The completely delocalized region of the Erdős-Rényi graph

We analyse the eigenvectors of the adjacency matrix of the Erdős-Rényi graph on $N$ vertices with edge probability $\frac{d}{N}$. We determine the full region of delocalization by determining the critical values of $\frac{d}{\log N}$ down to which delocalization persists: for $\frac{d}{\log N} > \frac{1}{\log 4 - 1}$ all eigenvectors are completely delocalized, and for $\frac{d}{\log N} > 1$ all eigenvectors with eigenvalues away from the spectral edges are completely delocalized. Below these critical values, it is known [arXiv:2005.14180, arXiv:2106.12519] that localized eigenvectors exist in the corresponding spectral regions.

Delocalization transition for critical Erdős-Rényi graphs

We analyse the eigenvectors of the adjacency matrix of a critical Erdős-Rényi graph $\mathbb G(N,d/N)$, where $d$ is of order $\log N$. We show that its spectrum splits into two phases: a delocalized phase in the middle of the spectrum, where the eigenvectors are completely delocalized, and a semilocalized phase near the edges of the spectrum, where the eigenvectors are essentially localized on a small number of vertices. In the semilocalized phase the mass of an eigenvector is concentrated in a small number of disjoint balls centred around resonant vertices, in each of which it is a radial exponentially decaying function. The transition between the phases is sharp and is manifested in a discontinuity in the localization exponent $γ(\mathbf w)$ of an eigenvector $\mathbf w$, defined through $\|\mathbf w\|_\infty / \|\mathbf w\|_2 = N^{-γ(\mathbf w)}$. Our results remain valid throughout the optimal regime $\sqrt{\log N} \ll d \leq O(\log N)$.

A forward--backward random process for the spectrum of 1D Anderson operators

We give a new expression for the law of the eigenvalues of the discrete Anderson model on the finite interval $[0,N]$, in terms of two random processes starting at both ends of the interval. Using this formula, we deduce that the tail of the eigenvectors behaves approximatelylike $\exp(σB\_{|n-k|}-γ\frac{|n-k|}{4})$ where $B\_{s}$ is the Brownian motion and $k$ is uniformly chosen in $[0,N]$ independentlyof $B\_{s}$. A similar result has recently been shown by B. Rifkind and B. Virag in the critical case, that is, when the random potential is multiplied by a factor $\frac{1}{\sqrt{N}}$

Anderson Localisation for periodically driven systems

We study the persistence of localization for a strongly disordered tight-binding Anderson model on the lattice $\mathbb{Z}^d$, periodically driven on each site. Under two different sets of conditions, we show that Anderson localization survives if the driving frequency is higher than some threshold value that we determine. We discuss the implication of our results for recent development in condensed matter physics, we compare them with the predictions issuing from adiabatic theory, and we comment on the connexion with Mott's law, derived within the linear response formalism.

Anderson localisation for infinitely many interacting particles in Hartree-Fock theory

We prove the occurrence of Anderson localisation for a system of infinitely many particles interacting with a short range potential, within the ground state Hartree-Fock approximation. We assume that the particles hop on a discrete lattice and that they are submitted to an external periodic potential which creates a gap in the non-interacting one particle Hamiltonian. We also assume that the interaction is weak enough to preserve a gap. We prove that the mean-field operator has exponentially localised eigenvectors, either on its whole spectrum or at the edges of its bands, depending on the strength of the disorder.
