$k_T$-factorization approach to the Higgs boson production in $ZZ^*\to 4\ell$ channel at the LHC

We calculated a differential cross section of the Higgs boson production in the $h\to ZZ^*\to 4\ell$ decay channel within the framework of $k_T$-factorization. Results are obtained using an off-shell matrix element for the $g^*g^*\to h\to ZZ^*\to 4\ell$ process together with Ciafaloni-Catani-Fiorani-Marchesini (CCFM) evolution equations for an unintegrated gluon distribution function. We have presented a comparison of our results with the latest experimental measurements at $\sqrt{S}$ = 8 TeV and $\sqrt{S}$ = 13 TeV from the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the LHC. In addition to this, we have compared our results with the results from the collinear factorization formalism calculated up to next-to-next-to-leading order plus next-to-next-to-leading logarithm (NNLO + NNLL) accuracy obtained using the HRes code for the Higgs boson production in the gluon-gluon fusion process. Our estimates are consistently close to NNLO + NNLL results obtained using a collinear factorization formalism and are also in agreement with experimental measurements.

Scattering unitarity with effective dimension-6 operators

The effects of physics beyond the Standard Model may be parametrized by a set of higher-dimensional operators leading to an effective theory. The introduction of these operators makes the theory nonrenormalizable, and one may reasonably expect a violation of unitarity in $2\to 2$ scattering processes, depending on the values of the Wilson coefficients of the higher dimensional operators. Bounds on these coefficients may be obtained from demanding that there be no such unitarity violation below the scale of the effective theory. We show, at the lowest level, how the new operators affect the scattering amplitudes with longitudinal gauge bosons, scalars, and $t\bar{t}$ in the final state, and find that one may expect a violation of unitarity even at the LHC energies with small values of some of the new Wilson coefficients. For most of the others, such a violation needs large coefficients, indicating nonperturbative physics for the ultraviolet-complete theory, although a proper treatment necessitates the inclusion of even higher-dimensional operators. However, deviations from the Standard Model expectations may be observed with even smaller values for these coefficients. We find that $WW \to WW$, $WW\to ZZ$, and $ZZ\to hh$ scatterings are the best possible channels to probe unitarity violations.

Probing anomalous couplings using di-Higgs production in electron-proton collisions

A proposed high energy Future Circular Hadron-Electron Collider would provide sufficient energy in a clean environment to probe di-Higgs production. Using this channel we show that the azimuthal angle correlation between the missing transverse energy and the forward jet is a very good probe for the non-standard $hhh$ and $hhWW$ couplings. We give the exclusion limits on these couplings as a function of integrated luminosity at a $95$\% C.L. using the fiducial cross sections. With appropriate error fitting methodology we find that the Higgs boson self coupling could be measured to be $g^{(1)}_{hhh} = 1.00^{+0.24(0.14)}_{-0.17(0.12)}$ of its expected Standard Model value at $\sqrt s = 3.5(5.0)$ TeV for an ultimate 10 ab$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity.

Differential cross section for the Higgs boson production in 4-lepton channel and $k_T$-factorization

We present our study of the differential cross section for the Higgs boson production in $k_T$-factorization framework. The $k_T$-factorization formalism includes a convolution over unintegrated parton distribution functions (uPDF) and off-shell parton level matrix element. The off-shell matrix element calculated considering initial gluons to be off-shell. We have considered only gluon fusion process which is dominant production mechanism for the Higgs boson production at LHC. We have used Ciafaloni-Catani-Fiorani-Marchesini (CCFM) uPDF based on CCFM evolution equations. We have compared our results with fixed order estimates up to NNLO+NNLL obtained using HRes tool within collinear factorization framework as well as with the ATLAS and CMS measurements of the corresponding differential distributions. This study will play an important role in understanding differential cross section within $k_T$-factorization framework.

Investigating Unitarity in Presence of Anomalous Couplings

We perform a model independent analysis of the helicity amplitudes at high energy for all the $2\to2$ scattering processes involving gauge and Higgs bosons in the presence of anomalous $WWV$, $WWVV$, $VVH$, $VVHH$ ($V\equiv Z,γ$ and $W^\pm$), $HHHH$ and $HHH$ interactions. We obtain the perturbative unitarity constraints on anomalous couplings by demanding the vanishing of terms proportional to $s^2$ and $s^{3/2}$ in the helicity amplitudes. Using these constraints, we also compute the upper bound on all the anomalous couplings from terms linear in $s$. Further, assuming all anomalous couplings to have arisen only from dimension six operators, we show that the perturbative unitarity violation can be evaded up to $\sim$ 9 TeV corresponding to the best fit values of $f_{WW}/Λ^2$ and $f_{BB}/Λ^2$ from the combined analysis of Tevatron and LHC data.

Anomalous Higgs Couplings as a Window to New Physics

The initial data on the production and decay of the Higgs boson reported significant deviations from the Standard Model (SM) expectations, prompting much speculation about its couplings to the other particles. Although the latest data has veered towards conformity with the SM, there is yet room for a sizable deviation from the SM values of the coupling of the Higgs boson with $t\bar{t}$, and to a smaller extent, of that with $W^+W^-$ and $ZZ$. Keeping the fluid nature of the data in mind, this opens up an interesting avenue to explore regarding unitarity of gauge boson scattering and the stability of the electroweak vacuum in the presence of anomalous couplings. We show that, for some typical benchmark points, unitarity in gauge boson scattering breaks down between 1 and 10 TeV. We also show that if there are no new light degrees of freedom, the Higgs quartic coupling becomes negative at around the same point, making the electroweak vacuum unstable. Thus, some new ultraviolet completing new physics is demanded at that scale to cancel both these anomalous behaviours if such deviations from the SM couplings are indeed established.

Constraining Unparticles from Top Physics at TeVatron

We study and analyze the recent observations of the top pair production $σ(p\bar p\to t \bar t)$ at TeVatron through flavor conserving and flavor violating channels ${\it via}$ vector and tensor unparticles. The unparticle sector is considered with the possibility of being a color singlet or octet. The modified unparticle propagator is used to investigate the contribution of these unparticles to the observed $A_{FB}^{t\bar t}$ (forward backward asymmetry in top pair production) and the spin correlation at TeVatron. We have also studied the impact of the flavor violating couplings of unparticles to the third generation quarks on (a) pair production of same sign tops/antitops $σ(p\bar p\to tt+\bar t \bar t)$ at TeVatron and (b) the partial top decay width for $Γ_{\cal U}(t\to u\,{\cal U}^V)$. We find that a large region of parameter space is consistent with the measurements of \tt production cross-section, \afbt and spin correlation coefficient at TeVatron and observe that the top decay width measurement constrains the flavor violating coupling of vector unparticles more severely than the same sign top/antitop production at TeVatron. We also predict the best point-set in the model parameter space for specific choices of \du corresponding to $χ^2_{\rm min}$ evaluated using the \mttb spectrum of \afbt from the data set of Run II of TeVatron at the integrated luminosity 8.7 fb$^{-1}$. Our results and analysis are consistent even with unparticle theories having broken scale invariance as long as the infrared cut-off scale is much less than the top pair production threshold.
