Spectral aspects of random heavy-tailed tensors

We investigate heavy-Wigner tensors: symmetric random tensors whose independent entries, up to the tensor symmetries, are centered and have moments of order $N^{-(p-1)}$, where $N$ is the tensor dimension. This framework includes normalized adjacency tensors of sparse Erd\H{o}s-R\'enyi hypergraphs and truncated heavy-tailed tensor models. We study trace invariants, a complete family of polynomial invariants under permutations of the tensor indices. We prove that, after the natural normalization, the only non-vanishing asymptotic contributions are those associated with fat hypertrees, and we derive a central limit theorem for these injective trace invariants. As applications, we first analyze Erd\H{o}s-R\'enyi $p$-uniform hypergraphs with edge probability $\alpha_N=c/N^{p-1}$. We prove local weak convergence to a uniform Galton-Watson hypertree with Poisson offspring distribution. We also prove convergence of the empirical spectral distribution of the matrix obtained by contracting the adjacency tensor; in the sparse regime the limiting law depends on the sparsity parameter $c$ and has unbounded support, while in the regime $N^{p-1}\alpha_N\to\infty$ with $N^{p-1}(1-\alpha_N)\to\infty$, the limiting spectral distribution is the semicircle law. This result generalizes for matrices obtained by contracting an arbitrary heavy-Wigner tensor and we derive an explicit formula for the moments of the limiting spectral measure.

Tensorial free convolution, semicircular, free Poisson and R-transform in high order

This work builds on our previous developments regarding a notion of freeness for tensors. We aim to establish a tensorial free convolution for compactly supported measures. First, we define higher-order analogues of the semicircular (or Wigner) law and the free Poisson (or Marcenko-Pastur) law, giving their moments and free cumulants. We prove the convergence of a Wishart-type tensor to the free Poisson law and recall the convergence of a Wigner tensor to the semicircular law. We also present a free Central Limit Theorem in this context. Next, we introduce a tensorial free convolution, define the $R$-transform, and provide the first examples of free convolution of measures.

Freeness for tensors

We pursue the current developments in random tensor theory by laying the foundations of a free probability theory for tensors and establish its relevance in the study of random tensors of high dimension. We give a definition of freeness associated to a collection of tensors of possibly different orders. Our definition reduces to the usual freeness when only tensors of order 2 are concerned. We define the free cumulants which are associated to this notion of tensor freeness. We prove that the basic models of random tensors are asymptotically free as the dimension goes to infinity. On the way, we establish Schwinger-Dyson loop equations associated to random tensors.

Universality of the Wigner-Gurau limit for random tensors

In this article, we develop a combinatorial approach for studying moments of the resolvent trace for random tensors proposed by Razvan Gurau. Our work is based on the study of hypergraphs and extends the combinatorial proof of moments convergence for Wigner's theorem. This also opens up paths for research akin to free probability for random tensors. \\ Specifically, trace invariants form a complete family of tensor invariants and constitute the moments of the resolvent trace. For a random tensor with entries independent, centered, with the right variance and bounded moments, we prove the convergence of the expectation and bound the variance of the balanced single trace invariant. This is the universality of the convergence of the moments of the tensor towards the limiting moments given by the Fuss-Catalan numbers, which are the moments of the law obtained by Gurau in the Gaussian case. This generalizes Wigner's theorem for random tensors. \\ Additionally, in the Gaussian case, we show that the limiting distribution of the moments of the $k$-times contracted $p$-order random tensor by a deterministic vector is always the one of a dilated Wigner-Gurau law at order $p-k$. This establishes a connection with the approach of random tensors through study of the matrices given by the $p-2$ contractions of the tensor.
