Leray's plane steady state solutions are nontrivial

We study solutions to the obstacle problem for the stationary Navier--Stokes system in a~two dimensional exterior domain (flow past a prescribed body). We prove that the classical Leray solution to this problem is always nontrivial. No additional condition (on symmetry or smallness, etc.) is assumed. This is a complete extension of a~classical result of C.J. Amick (Acta Math. 1988) where nontriviality was proved under symmetry assumption.

The Stokes paradox in inhomogeneous elastostatics

We prove that the displacement problem of inhomogeneous elastostatics in a two--dimensional exterior Lipschitz domain has a unique solution with finite Dirichlet integral $\u$, vanishing uniformly at infinity if and only if the boundary datum satisfies a suitable compatibility condition (Stokes' paradox). Moreover, we prove that it is unique under the sharp condition $\u=o(\log r)$ and decays uniformly at infinity with a rate depending on the elasticities. In particular, if these last ones tend to a homogeneous state at large distance, then $\u=O(r^{-α})$, for every $α<1$.

On the steady Navier--Stokes equations in 2D exterior domains

We study the boundary value problem for the stationary Navier--Stokes system in two dimensional exterior domain. We prove that any solution of this problem with finite Dirichlet integral is uniformly bounded. Also we prove the existence theorem under zero total flux assumption.

Solution of Leray's problem for stationary Navier-Stokes equations in plane and axially symmetric spatial domains

We study the nonhomogeneous boundary value problem for the Navier-Stokes equations of steady motion of a viscous incompressible fluid in arbitrary bounded multiply connected plane or axially-symmetric spatial domains. We prove that this problem has a solution under the sole necessary condition of zero total flux through the boundary. The problem was formulated by Jean Leray 80 years ago. The proof of the main result uses Bernoulli's law for a weak solution to the Euler equations.

The existence theorem for steady Navier--Stokes equations in the axially symmetric case

We study the nonhomogeneous boundary value problem for Navier-Stokes equations of steady motion of a viscous incompressible fluid in a three-dimensional bounded multiply connected domain. We prove that this problem has a solution in some axially symmetric cases, in particular, when all components of the boundary intersect the axis of symmetry.

On the flux problem in the theory of steady Navier-Stokes equations with nonhomogeneous boundary conditions

We study the nonhomogeneous boundary value problem for Navier--Stokes equations of steady motion of a viscous incompressible fluid in a two--dimensional bounded multiply connected domain $Ω=Ω_1\setminus\barΩ_2, \;\barΩ_2\subset Ω_1$. We prove that this problem has a solution if the flux $\F$ of the boundary value through $\partialΩ_2$ is nonnegative. The proof of the main result uses the Bernoulli law for a weak solution to the Euler equations and the one-side maximum principle for the total head pressure corresponding to this solution.
