Combinatorial Yamabe flow on hyperbolic surfaces with boundary

This paper studies the combinatorial Yamabe flow on hyperbolic surfaces with boundary. It is proved by applying a variational principle that the length of boundary components is uniquely determined by the combinatorial conformal factor. The combinatorial Yamabe flow is a gradient flow of a concave function. The long time behavior of the flow and the geometric meaning is investigated.

Quasi-Fuchsian 3-Manifolds and Metrics on Teichmüller Space

An almost Fuchsian 3-manifold is a quasi-Fuchsian manifold which contains an incompressible closed minimal surface with principal curvatures in the range of $(-1,1)$. Such a 3-manifold $M$ admits a foliation of parallel surfaces, whose locus in Teichmüller space is represented as a path $γ$, we show that $γ$ joins the conformal structures of the two components of the conformal boundary of $M$. Moreover, we obtain an upper bound for the Teichmüller distance between any two points on $γ$, in particular, the Teichmüller distance between the two components of the conformal boundary of $M$, in terms of the principal curvatures of the minimal surface in $M$. We also establish a new potential for the Weil-Petersson metric on Teichmüller space.

Quantum Teichmüller space and Kashaev algebra

Kashaev algebra associated to a surface is a noncommutative deformation of the algebra of rational functions of Kashaev coordinates. For two arbitrary complex numbers, there is a generalized Kashaev algebra. The relationship between the shear coordinates and Kashaev coordinates induces a natural relationship between the quantum Teichmüller space and the generalized Kashaev algebra.

Local rigidity of inversive distance circle packing

A Euclidean (or hyperbolic) circle packing on a closed triangulated surface with prescribed inversive distance is locally determined by its cone angles. We prove this by applying a variational principle.

Rigidity of polyhedral surfaces, II

We study the rigidity of polyhedral surfaces using variational principle. The action functionals are derived from the cosine laws. The main focus of this paper is on the cosine law for a non-triangular region bounded by three possibly disjoint geodesics. Several of these cosine laws were first discovered and used by Fenchel and Nielsen. By studying the derivative of the cosine laws, we discover a uniform approach on several variational principles on polyhedral surfaces with or without boundary. As a consequence, the work of Penner, Bobenko-Springborn and Thurston on rigidity of polyhedral surfaces and circle patterns are extended to a very general context.

On a Conjecture of Milnor about Volume of Simplexes

We establish the second part of Milnor's conjecture on the volume of simplexes in hyperbolic and spherical spaces. A characterization of the closure of the space of the angle Gram matrices of simplexes is also obtained.

A note on circle patterns on surfaces

In this paper we give two different proofs of Bobenko and Springborn's theorem of circle pattern: there exists a hyperbolic (or Euclidean) circle pattern with proscribed intersection angles and cone angles on a cellular decomposed surface up to isometry (or similarity).

On parameterizations of Teichmüller spaces of surfaces with boundary

In \cite{rigidity}, Luo introduced a $ψ_λ$ edge invariant which turns out to be a coordinate of the Teichmüller space of a surface with boundary. And he proved that for $λ\geq 0$, the image of the Teichmüller space under $ψ_λ$ edge invariant coordinate is an open cell. In this paper we verify his conjecture that for $λ<0$, the image of the Teichmüller space is a bounded convex polytope.

Geometric angle structures on triangulated surfaces

In this paper we characterize a function defined on the set of edges of a triangulated surface such that there is a spherical angle structure having the function as the edge invariant (or Delaunay invariant). We also characterize a function such that there is a hyperbolic angle structure having the function as the edge invariant.
