Systems-of-Systems for Environmental Sustainability: A Systematic Mapping Study

Environmental sustainability in Systems-of-Systems (SoS) is an emerging field that seeks to integrate technological solutions to promote the efficient management of natural resources. While systematic reviews address sustainability in the context of Smart Cities (a category of SoS), a systematic study synthesizing the existing knowledge on environmental sustainability applied to SoS in general does not exist. Although literature includes other types of sustainability, such as financial and social, this study focuses on environmental sustainability, analyzing how SoS contribute to sustainable practices such as carbon emission reduction, energy efficiency, and biodiversity conservation. We conducted a Systematic Mapping Study to identify the application domains of SoS in sustainability, the challenges faced, and research opportunities. We planned and executed a research protocol including an automated search over four scientific databases. Of 926 studies retrieved, we selected, analyzed, and reported the results of 39 relevant studies. Our findings reveal that most studies focus on Smart Cities and Smart Grids, while applications such as sustainable agriculture and wildfire prevention are less explored. We identified challenges such as system interoperability, scalability, and data governance. Finally, we propose future research directions for SoS and environmental sustainability.

Requirements Engineering, Software Testing and Education: A Systematic Mapping

The activities of requirements engineering and software testing are intrinsically related to each other, as these two areas are linked when seeking to specify and also ensure the expectations of a software product, with quality and on time. This systematic mapping study aims to verify how requirements and testing are being addressed together in the educational context.

A Research Agenda on Pediatric Chest X-Ray: Is Deep Learning Still in Childhood?

Several reasons explain the significant role that chest X-rays play on supporting clinical analysis and early disease detection in pediatric patients, such as low cost, high resolution, low radiation levels, and high availability. In the last decade, Deep Learning (DL) has been given special attention from the computer-aided diagnosis research community, outperforming the state of the art of many techniques, including those applied to pediatric chest X-rays (PCXR). Due to this increasing interest, much high-quality secondary research has also arisen, overviewing machine learning and DL algorithms on medical imaging and PCXR, in particular. However, these secondary studies follow different guidelines, hampering their reproduction or improvement by third-parties regarding the identified trends and gaps. This paper proposes a "deep radiography" of primary research on DL techniques applied in PCXR images. We elaborated on a Systematic Literature Mapping (SLM) protocol, including automatic search on six sources for studies published from January 1, 2010, to May 20, 2020, and selection criteria utilized on a hundred research papers. As a result, this paper categorizes twenty-six relevant studies and provides a research agenda highlighting limitations, gaps, and trends for further investigations on DL usage in PCXR images. Besides the fact that there is no systematic mapping study on this research topic, to the best of authors' knowledge, this work organizes the process of finding and selecting relevant studies and data gathering and synthesis in a reproducible way.

Metamodel Quality Requirements and Evaluation (MQuaRE)

Models are the primary artifacts of model-driven software engineering (MDSD) [1], and a terminal model is a representation that conforms to a given software metamodel [2, 3]. As the quality of a software metamodel directly impacts the quality of terminal models, software metamodel quality is an essential aspect of MDSD. However, the literature reports a few proposals for metamodel quality evaluation, but most lack a general solution for the quality issue. Some efforts focus on quality measures [4], a quality evaluation model [5], or a quality evaluation model with structural measures borrowed from OO design [6, 7, 8]. Thus, we support there is a need for a more thorough solution for metamodel quality evaluation, with potential benefits to MDSD in general. This document describes a metamodel quality evaluation framework called MQuaRE (Metamodel Quality Requirements and Evaluation). MQuaRE is an integrated framework composed of metamodel quality requirements, a metamodel quality model, metamodel quality measures, and an evaluation process, with a great contribution of the ISO/IEC 25000 series [9] for software product quality evaluation.
