Higher Categories and Slices of Globular Operads

In an unpublished preprint \cite{batanin}, Batanin conjectures that it is possible to take `slices' of a globular operad, thereby isolating the algebraic structure in each dimension. It was further hypothesised that the slices of a globular operad for some theory of higher category contain essential information about those higher categories, namely whether or not they are equivalent to the fully weak variety. In this paper, we use the theory of presentations for globular operads developed in \cite{Me} to provide a concrete definition of slices, and calculate the slices for several key theories of $n$-category.

Cofibrantly generated model structures for functor calculus

Model structures for many different kinds of functor calculus can be obtained by applying a theorem of Bousfield to a suitable category of functors. In this paper, we give a general criterion for when model categories obtained via this approach are cofibrantly generated. Our examples recover the homotopy functor and $n$-excisive model structures of Biedermann and R\"ondigs, with different proofs, but also include a model structure for the discrete functor calculus of Bauer, Johnson, and McCarthy.

Presentations for Globular Operads

In this paper we develop the theory of presentations for globular operads and construct presentations for the globular operads corresponding to several key theories of $n$-category for $n \leqslant 4$.
