Modified LLL algorithm with shifted start column

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems are playing an important role in the recent wireless communication. The complexity of the different systems models challenge different researches to get a good complexity to performance balance. Lattices Reduction Techniques and Lenstra-Lenstra-Lovasz (LLL) algorithm bring more resources to investigate and can contribute to the complexity reduction purposes. In this paper, we are looking to modify the LLL algorithm to reduce the computation operations by exploiting the structure of the upper triangular matrix without big performance degradation. Basically, the first columns of the upper triangular matrix contain many zeroes, so the algorithm will perform several operations with very limited income. We are presenting a performance and complexity study and our proposal show that we can gain in term of complexity while the performance results remains almost the same.

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems are playing an increasing and interesting role in the recent wireless communication. The complexity and the performance of the systems are driving the different studies and researches. Lattices Reduction techniques bring more resources to investigate the complexity and performances of such systems. In this paper, we look to modify a fixed complexity verity of the LLL algorithm to reduce the computation operations by reducing the number of iterations without important performance degradation. Our proposal shows that we can achieve a good performance results while avoiding extra iteration that does not bring much performance.

On the Evaluation of GMSK Scheme with ECC Techniques in Wireless Sensor Network

Wireless sensor nodes are powered by batteries, for which replacement is very difficult. That is why, optimization of energy consumption is a major objective in the area of wireless sensor networks (WSNs).On the other hand, noisy channel has a prominent influence on the reliability of data transmission. Therefore, an energy efficient transmission strategy should be considered on the communication process of wireless nodes in order to obtain optimal energy network consumption. Indeed, the choice of suitable modulation format with the proper Error Correcting code (ECC) played a great responsibility to obtain better energy conservation. In this work, we aim to evaluate the performance analysis of Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying (GMSK) modulation with several combinations of coding strategies using various analysis metrics such as Bit Error Rate (BER), energy consumption.Through extensive simulation, we disclose that he gain achieved through GMSK modulation with suitable channel coding mechanism is promising to obtain reliable communication and energy conservation in WSN.

On the Approximation of the Sum of Lognormals by a Log Skew Normal Distribution

Several methods have been proposed to approximate the sum of lognormal RVs. However the accuracy of each method relies highly on the region of the resulting distribution being examined, and the individual lognormal parameters, i.e., mean and variance. There is no such method which can provide the needed accuracy for all cases. This paper propose a universal yet very simple approximation method for the sum of Lognormals based on log skew normal approximation. The main contribution on this work is to propose an analytical method for log skew normal parameters estimation. The proposed method provides highly accurate approximation to the sum of lognormal distributions over the whole range of dB spreads for any correlation coefficient. Simulation results show that our method outperforms all previously proposed methods and provides an accuracy within 0.01 dB for all cases.

Highly Accurate Log Skew Normal Approximation to the Sum of Correlated Lognormals

Several methods have been proposed to approximate the sum of correlated lognormal RVs. However the accuracy of each method relies highly on the region of the resulting distribution being examined, and the individual lognormal parameters, i.e., mean and variance. There is no such method which can provide the needed accuracy for all cases. This paper propose a universal yet very simple approximation method for the sum of correlated lognormals based on log skew normal approximation. The main contribution on this work is to propose an analytical method for log skew normal parameters estimation. The proposed method provides highly accurate approximation to the sum of correlated lognormal distributions over the whole range of dB spreads for any correlation coefficient. Fitting the Log Skew Normal to the Sum of Independent Lognormals Distribution

Sums of lognormal random variables (RVs) occur in many important problems in wireless communications especially in interferences calculation. Several methods have been proposed to approximate the lognormal sum distribution. Most of them requires lengthy Monte Carlo simulations, or advanced slowly converging numerical integrations for curve fitting and parameters estimation. Recently, it has been shown that the log skew normal distribution can offer a tight approximation to the lognormal sum distributed RVs. We propose a simple and accurate method for fitting the log skew normal distribution to lognormal sum distribution. We use moments and tails slope matching technique to find optimal log skew normal distribution parameters. We compare our method with those in literature in terms of complexity and accuracy. We conclude that our method has same accuracy than other methods but more simple. To further validate our approach, we provide an example for outage probability calculation in lognormal shadowing environment based on log skew normal approximation.

Performance Analysis Of Resource Scheduling In LTE Femtocells Networks

3GPP has introduced LTE Femtocells to manipulate the traffic for indoor users and to minimize the charge on the Macro cells. A key mechanism in the LTE traffic handling is the packet scheduler which is in charge of allocating resources to active flows in both the frequency and time dimension. So several scheduling algorithms need to be analyzed for femtocells networks. In this paper we introduce a performance analysis of three distinct scheduling algorithms of mixed type of traffic flows in LTE femtocells networks. The particularly study is evaluated in terms of throughput, packet loss ratio, fairness index and spectral efficiency

Alamouti OFDM/OQAM systems with time reversal technique

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing with Offset Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (OFDM/OQAM) is a multicarrier modulation scheme that can be considered as an alternative to the conventional Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) with Cyclic Prefix (CP) for transmission over multipath fading channels. In this paper, we investigate the combination of the OFDM/OQAM with Alamouti system with Time Reversal (TR) technique. TR can be viewed as a precoding scheme which can be combined with OFDM/OQAM and easily carried out in a Multiple Input Single Output (MISO) context such as Alamouti system. We present the simulation results of the performance of OFDM/OQAM system in SISO case compared with the conventional CP-OFDM system and the performance of the combination Alamouti OFDM/OQAM with TR compared to Alamouti CP-OFDM. The performance is derived by computing the Bit Error Rate (BER) as a function of the transmit signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

Acquisition probability of multi-user UWB systems in the presence of a novel synchronization approach

In this paper, to synchronize Ultra Wideband (UWB) systems in ad-hoc multi-user environments, we propose a new timing acquisition approach for achieving a good performance despite the difficulties to get there. Synchronization constraints are caused by the ultra-short emitted waveforms nature of UWB signals. Used in [1, 2] for single-user environments, our timing acquisition approach is based on two successive stages or floors. Extended for multi-user environments, the used algorithm is a combination between coarse synchronization based on timing with dirty templates (TDT) acquisition scheme and a new fine synchronization scheme developed in [3-6] which conduct to an improved estimate of timing offset. In this work, we develop and test this method in both data-aided (DA) and non-data-aided (NDA) modes. Simulation results and comparisons are also given to confirm performance improvement of our approach (in terms of mean square error and acquisition probability) compared to the original TDT algorithm in multi-user environments, especially in the NDA mode.

Comparison between Performances of Channel Estimation Techniques for CP-LTE and ZP-LTE Downlink Systems

In this paper, we propose to evaluate the performance of channel estimation techniques for Long Term Evolution (LTE) Downlink systems based on Zero Padding technique (ZP) instead of Cyclic Prefixing (CP). LTE Downlink system is a multiuser system based on a MIMO-OFDMA technology. Usually, in OFDM systems, a guard interval is inserted in order to mitigate both inter-carrier interference (ICI) and inter-symbol interference (ISI). LTE Downlink systems are based on CP-OFDM technique which consists of a copy a last OFDM symbols inserted at the beginning of each transmitted OFDM symbol. Although this technique shows good performances, the CP-LTE system suffers from a power efficiency loss. With the number of present OFDM symbols in LTE Downlink radio frame, the bandwidth loss becomes more important. Instead of CP, we propose to evaluate the performance of ZP-LTE systems in order to avoid the power efficiency .In this paper, we interest to evaluate the performance of channel estimation techniques for the two LTE Downlink systems. Simulations results show that although ZP-LTE systems outperform CP-LTE Downlink systems in terms of power efficiency, the CP-LTE systems show better performance than ZP-LTE systems and especially for high SNR values. MATLAB Monte-Carlo simulations are used to evaluate the performance of LS, LMMSE and Lr-LMMSE estimators in terms of Mean Square Error (MSE) and Bit Error Rate (BER) for 2x2 LTE Downlink systems.

Roadmap for Establishing Interoperability of Heterogeneous Cellular Network Technologies -1-

The lack of interoperability between cellular access networks has long been a challenging burden, which telecommunication engineers and researchers are trying to overcome. In second generation networks for example, this problem lies in the lack of standardization. 3rd G networks is limited to a few operating modes using different radio transmission technologies that are not interoperable. 4G technology even being successful in its various trials cannot guarantee interoperability. The undertaken approach to overcome this issue within heterogeneous networks begins by establishing a holistic understanding of cellular communication, and proposing an Ontological approach that expresses the domain's concepts, classes, and properties in a formal and unambiguous way. It begins by analyzing the structure of three different cellular technologies, and producing feature models. Lte-Advanced cellular network is the target of this ongoing analysis. The final objective sought is to build Ontology capable of providing a common view of cellular network technologies' domain.

Ontology for Mobile Phone Operating Systems

This ongoing study deals with an important part of a line of research that constitutes a challenging burden. It is an initial investigation into the development of a Holistic Framework for Cellular Communication (HFCC). The main purpose is to establish mechanisms by which existing wireless cellular communication components and models can work holistically together. It demonstrates that establishing a mathematical framework that allows existing cellular communication technologies (and tools supporting those technologies) to seamlessly interact is technically feasible. The longer-term future goals are to actually improve the interoperability, the efficiency of mobile communication, calls quality, and reliability by applying the framework to specific development efforts.

Energy Consumption Model in ad hoc Mobile Network

The aim of this work is to model the nodes battery discharge in wireless ad hoc networks. Many work focus on the energy consumption in such networks. Even, the research in the highest layers of the ISO model, takes into account the energy consumption and efficiency. Indeed, the nodes that form such network are mobiles, so no instant recharge of battery. Also with special type of ad hoc networks are wireless sensors networks using non-rechargeable batteries. All nodes with an exhausted battery are considered death and left the network. To consider the energy consumption, in this work we model using a Markov chain, the discharge of the battery considering of instant activation and deactivation distribution function of these nodes.

Power control in reactive routing protocol for Mobile Ad Hoc Network

The aim of this work is to change the routing strategy of AODV protocol (Ad hoc On Demand Vector) in order to improve the energy consumption in mobile ad hoc networks (MANET). The purpose is to minimize the regular period of HELLO messages generated by the AODV protocol used for the research, development and maintenance of routes. This information is useful to have an idea about battery power levels of different network hosts. After storing this information, the node elect the shortest path following the classical model used this information to elect safest path (make a compromise) in terms of energy. Transmitter node does not select another node as its battery will be exhausted soon. Any node of the network can have the same information's about the neighborhoods as well as other information about the energy level of the different terminal to avoid routing using a link that will be lost due to an exhausted battery of a node in this link. Analytical study and simulations by Jist/SWANS have been conducted to note that no divergence relatively to the classical AODV, a node can have this type of information that improves the energy efficiency in ad hoc networks.

Blind Channel Estimation Enhancement for Mimo- OFDM Systems under High Mobility Conditions

In this paper, we propose an enhancement of a blind channel estimator based on a subspace approach in a MIMO OFDM context (Multi Input Multi Output Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) in high mobility scenario. As known, the combination between the MIMO context and the OFDM system has stimulated mainly the evolution of the fourth generation broadband wireless communications. The simulations results have demonstrated the effectiveness of the approach for a 16 QAM modulation scheme and had been evaluated in term of bit error rate BER and mean square error MSE versus the signal to noise ratio SNR.

Multiuser Detection in Asynchronous Multibeam Communications

This paper deals with multi-user detection techniques in asynchronous multibeam satellite communications. The proposed solutions are based on successive interference cancellation architecture (SIC) and channel decoding algorithms. The aim of these detection methods is to reduce the effect of cochannel interference due to co-frequency access, and consequently, improves the capacity of the mulitbeam communications systems, by improving frequency reuse. Channel estimation allows the determination of interference coefficients, which helps their effects compensation. The developed multiuser detections techniques are iterative. Therefore, detection quality is improved from a stage to another. Moreover, a signals combining method, which is integrated into these detection solutions, enhances their capability. The proposed solutions are evaluated through computer simulations, where an asynchronous multibeam satellite link is considered over an AWGN channel. The obtained simulation results showed the robustness of these multi-user detection techniques.

Multiuser Detection and Channel Estimation for Multibeam Satellite Communications

In this paper, iterative multi-user detection techniques for multi-beam communications are presented. The solutions are based on a successive interference cancellation architecture and a channel decoding to treat the co-channel interference. Beams forming and channels coefficients are estimated and updated iteratively. A developed technique of signals combining allows power improvement of the useful received signal; and then reduction of the bit error rates with low signal to noise ratios. The approach is applied to a synchronous multi-beam satellite link under an additive white Gaussian channel. Evaluation of the techniques is done with computer simulations, where a noised and multi-access environment is considered. The simulations results show the good performance of the proposed solutions.

Channel Estimation Study for Block - Pilot Insertion in OFDM Systems under Slowly Time Varying Conditions

In this paper, we propose a study of performance of the channel estimation using LS, MMSE, LMMSE and Lr-LMMSE algorithms in OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system which, as known suffers from the time variation of the channel under high mobility conditions, using block pilot insertion. The loss of sub channel orthogonality leads to inter-carrier interference (ICI). Using many algorithms for channel estimation, we will show that, for a 16- QAM modulation, the LMMSE algorithm performs well to achieve this estimation but when the SNR (Signal Noise Rate) is high, the four algorithms (LS, MMSE, LMMSE and Lr-LMMSE) perform similarly, this is not always the case for another scheme of modulation. We will improve also the mean squared error for these algorithms. It will be illustrious in this paper that the LMMSE algorithm performs well with the block- pilot insertion as well as its low rank version which behave very good even when the size of FFT is very high.
