Ruijsenaars wavefunctions as modular group matrix coefficients

We give a description of the Hallnäs--Ruijsenaars eigenfunctions of the 2-particle hyperbolic Ruijsenaars system as matrix coefficients for the order 4 element $S\in SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$ acting on the Hilbert space of $GL(2)$ quantum Teichmüller theory on the punctured torus. The $GL(2)$ Macdonald polynomials are then obtained as special values of the analytic continuation of these matrix coefficients. The main tool used in the proof is the cluster structure on the moduli space of framed $GL(2)$-local systems on the punctured torus, and an $SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$-equivariant embedding of the $GL(2)$ spherical DAHA into the quantized coordinate ring of the corresponding cluster Poisson variety.

Cluster structure on genus 2 spherical DAHA: seven-colored flower

We construct an embedding of the Arthamonov-Shakirov algebra of genus 2 knot operators into the quantized coordinate ring of the cluster Poisson variety of exceptional finite mutation type $X_7$. The embedding is equivariant with respect to the action of the mapping class group of the closed surface of genus 2. The cluster realization of the mapping class group action leads to a formula for the coefficient of each monomial in the genus 2 Macdonald polynomial of type $A_1$ as sum over lattice points in a convex polyhedron in 7-dimensional space.

Macdonald Duality and the proof of the Quantum Q-system conjecture

The $SL(2,\mathbb Z)$-symmetry of Cherednik's spherical double affine Hecke algebras in Macdonald theory includes a distinguished generator which acts as a discrete time evolution of Macdonald operators, which can also be interpreted as a torus Dehn twist in type $A$. We prove for all twisted and untwisted affine algebras of type $ABCD$ that the time-evolved $q$-difference Macdonald operators, in the $t\to\infty$ $q$-Whittaker limit, form a representation of the associated discrete integrable quantum Q-systems, which are obtained, in all but one case, via the canonical quantization of suitable cluster algebras. The proof relies strongly on the duality property of Macdonald and Koornwinder polynomials, which allows, in the $q$-Whittaker limit, for a unified description of the quantum Q-system variables and the conserved quantities as limits of the time-evolved Macdonald operators and the Pieri operators, respectively. The latter are identified with relativistic $q$-difference Toda Hamiltonians. A crucial ingredient in the proof is the use of the "Fourier transformed" picture, in which we compute time-translation operators and prove that they commute with the Pieri operators or Hamiltonians. We also discuss the universal solutions of Koornwinder-Macdonald eigenvalue and Pieri equations, for which we prove a duality relation, which simplifies the proofs further.

Duality and Macdonald difference operators

This note summarizes certain properties common to Macdonald, Koornwinder and Arthamonov-Shakirov $q$-difference operators, relating to the duality or bi-spectrality properties of their eigenfunctions. This results in Pieri operators which, in the $q$-Whittaker limit, are relativistic difference Toda type Hamiltonians which have a related quantum cluster algebra structure known as the quantum Q-system. The genus-2 result explained here is new.

Macdonald operators and quantum Q-systems for classical types

We propose solutions of the quantum Q-systems of types $B_N,C_N,D_N$ in terms of $q$-difference operators, generalizing our previous construction for the Q-system of type $A$. The difference operators are interpreted as $q$-Whittaker limits of discrete time evolutions of Macdonald-van Diejen type operators. We conjecture that these new operators act as raising and lowering operators for $q$-Whittaker functions, which are special cases of graded characters of fusion products of KR-modules.

(t,q) Q-systems, DAHA and quantum toroidal algebras via generalized Macdonald operators

We introduce difference operators on the space of symmetric functions which are a natural generalization of the $(q,t)$-Macdonald operators. In the $t\to\infty$ limit, they satisfy the $A_{N-1}$ quantum $Q$-system. We identify the elements in the spherical $A_{N-1}$ DAHA which are represented by these operators, as well as within the quantum toroidal algebra of $gl_1$ and the elliptic Hall algebra. We present a plethystic, or bosonic, formulation of the generating functions for the generalized Macdonald operators, which we relate to recent work of Bergeron et al. Finally we derive constant term identities for the current that allow to interpret them in terms of shuffle products. In particular we obtain in the $t\to\infty$ limit a shuffle presentation of the quantum $Q$-system relations.

Quantum Q systems: From cluster algebras to quantum current algebras

In this paper, we recall our renormalized quantum Q-system associated with representations of the Lie algebra $A_r$, and show that it can be viewed as a quotient of the quantum current algebra $U_q({\mathfrak n}[u,u^{-1}])\subset U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak sl}_2)$ in the Drinfeld presentation. Moreover, we find the interpretation of the conserved quantities in terms of Cartan currents at level 0, and the rest of the current algebra, in a non-standard polarization in terms of generators in the quantum cluster algebra.

Difference equations for graded characters from quantum cluster algebra

We introduce a new set of $q$-difference operators acting as raising operators on a family of symmetric polynomials which are characters of graded tensor products of current algebra ${\mathfrak g}[u]$ KR-modules \cite{FL} for ${\mathfrak g}=A_r$. These operators are generalizations of the Kirillov-Noumi \cite{kinoum} Macdonald raising operators, in the dual $q$-Whittaker limit $t\to\infty$. They form a representation of the quantum $Q$-system of type $A$ \cite{qKR}. This system is a subalgebra of a quantum cluster algebra, and is also a discrete integrable system whose conserved quantities, analogous to the Casimirs of $U_q({\mathfrak sl}_{r+1})$, act as difference operators on the above family of symmetric polynomials. The characters in the special case of products of fundamental modules are class I $q$-Whittaker functions, or characters of level-1 Demazure modules or Weyl modules. The action of the conserved quantities on these characters gives the difference quantum Toda equations \cite{Etingof}. We obtain a generalization of the latter for arbitrary tensor products of KR-modules.

Fermionic spectra in integrable systems

This is a brief review of several algebraic constructions related to generalized fermionic spectra, of the type which appear in integrable quantum spin chains and integrable quantum field theories. We discuss the connection between fermionic formulas for the graded dimensions of the spaces of conformal blocks of WZW theories, quantum cluster algebras, discrete integrable noncommutative evolutions and difference equations.

T-systems with boundaries from network solutions

In this paper, we use the network solution of the $A_r$ $T$-system to derive that of the unrestricted $A_\infty$ $T$-system, equivalent to the octahedron relation. We then present a method for implementing various boundary conditions on this system, which consists of picking initial data with suitable symmetries. The corresponding restricted $T$-systems are solved exactly in terms of networks. This gives a simple explanation for phenomena such as the Zamolodchikov periodicity property for $T$-systems (corresponding to the case $A_\ell\times A_r$) and a combinatorial interpretation for the positive Laurent property of the variables of the associated cluster algebra. We also explain the relation between the $T$-system wrapped on a torus and the higher pentagram maps of Gekhtman et al.

Quantum cluster algebras and fusion products

$Q$-systems are recursion relations satisfied by the characters of the restrictions of special finite-dimensional modules of quantum affine algebras. They can also be viewed as mutations in certain cluster algebras, which have a natural quantum deformation. In this paper, we explain the relation in the simply-laced case between the resulting quantum $Q$-systems and the graded tensor product of Feigin and Loktev. We prove the graded version of the $M=N$ identities, and write expressions for these as non-commuting evaluated multi-residues of suitable products of solutions of the quantum $Q$-system. This leads to a simple reformulation of Feigin and Loktev's fusion coefficients as matrix elements in a representation of the quantum $Q$-system algebra.

Noncommutative integrability, paths and quasi-determinants

In previous work, we showed that the solution of certain systems of discrete integrable equations, notably $Q$ and $T$-systems, is given in terms of partition functions of positively weighted paths, thereby proving the positive Laurent phenomenon of Fomin and Zelevinsky for these cases. This method of solution is amenable to generalization to non-commutative weighted paths. Under certain circumstances, these describe solutions of discrete evolution equations in non-commutative variables: Examples are the corresponding quantum cluster algebras [BZ], the Kontsevich evolution [DFK09b] and the $T$-systems themselves [DFK09a]. In this paper, we formulate certain non-commutative integrable evolutions by considering paths with non-commutative weights, together with an evolution of the weights that reduces to cluster algebra mutations in the commutative limit. The general weights are expressed as Laurent monomials of quasi-determinants of path partition functions, allowing for a non-commutative version of the positive Laurent phenomenon. We apply this construction to the known systems, and obtain Laurent positivity results for their solutions in terms of initial data.

The solution of the quantum $A_1$ T-system for arbitrary boundary

We solve the quantum version of the $A_1$ $T$-system by use of quantum networks. The system is interpreted as a particular set of mutations of a suitable (infinite-rank) quantum cluster algebra, and Laurent positivity follows from our solution. As an application we re-derive the corresponding quantum network solution to the quantum $A_1$ $Q$-system and generalize it to the fully non-commutative case. We give the relation between the quantum $T$-system and the quantum lattice Liouville equation, which is the quantized $Y$-system.

Q-system Cluster Algebras, Paths and Total Positivity

In the first part of this paper, we provide a concise review of our method of solution of the $A_r$ Q-systems in terms of the partition function of paths on a weighted graph. In the second part, we show that it is possible to modify the graphs and transfer matrices so as to provide an explicit connection to the theory of planar networks introduced in the context of totally positive matrices by Fomin and Zelevinsky. As an illustration of the further generality of our method, we apply it to give a simple solution for the rank 2 affine cluster algebras studied by Caldero and Zelevinsky.

Q-systems as cluster algebras II: Cartan matrix of finite type and the polynomial property

We define the cluster algebra associated with the Q-system for the Kirillov-Reshetikhin characters of the quantum affine algebra $U_q(\hat{\g})$ for any simple Lie algebra g, generalizing the simply-laced case treated in [Kedem 2007]. We describe some special properties of this cluster algebra, and explain its relation to the deformed Q-systems which appeared on our proof of the combinatorial-KR conjecture. We prove that the polynomiality of the cluster variables in terms of the ``initial cluster seeds'', including solutions of the Q-system, is a consequence of the Laurent phenomenon and the boundary conditions. We also give a formulation of both Q-systems and generalized T-systems as cluster algebras with coefficients. This provides a proof of the polynomiality of solutions of generalized T-systems with appropriate boundary conditions.

Q-systems as cluster algebras

Q-systems first appeared in the analysis of the Bethe equations for the XXX-model and generalized Heisenberg spin chains. Such systems are known to exist for any simple Lie algebra and many other Kac-Moody algebras. We formulate the Q-system associated with any simple, simply-laced Lie algebras g in the language of cluster algebras, and discuss the relation of the polynomiality property of the solutions of the $Q$-system in the initial variables, which follows from the representation-theoretical interpretation, to the Laurent phenomenon in cluster algebras.
