Understanding the surface wave characteristics using 2D particle-in-cell simulation and deep neural network

The characteristics of the surface waves along the interface between a plasma and a dielectric material have been investigated using kinetic Particle-In-Cell (PIC) simulations. A microwave source of GHz frequency has been used to trigger the surface wave in the system. The outcome indicates that the surface wave gets excited along the interface of plasma and the dielectric tube and appears as light and dark patterns in the electric field profiles. The dependency of radiation pressure on the dielectric permittivity and supplied input frequency has been investigated. Further, we assessed the capabilities of neural networks to predict the radiation pressure for a given system. The proposed Deep Neural Network model is aimed at developing accurate and efficient data-driven plasma surface wave devices.

Correlation between two non-linear events in a complex dusty plasma system

A phenomenological model using fluid theory is developed to show that the decay of two seemingly independent nonlinear structures namely the dust void and dust soliton strongly depends on the plasma ionization parameter in an unmagnetized complex plasma system. Numerical solution of model equations has shown that the evolution of dust voids and their subsequent decay in a time frame is intimately related with the ionization parameter. A similar result also holds good in case of dust solitons where stability of soliton is found to depend critically upon ionization parameter. Most importantly, it is observed that time of the collapse of a dust soliton precedes the onset time of a dust void decay and therefore soliton decay acts as a precursor for void decay to occur in a given dusty plasma system.

Quasi-Degenerate Neutrinos in Type II Seesaw Models

We present an analysis of normal and inverted hierarchical neutrino mass models within the framework of tri-bi-maximal (TBM) mixing. Considering the neutrinos to be quasi-degenerate (QDN), we study two different neutrino mass models with mass eigenvalues $(m_1, -m_2, m_3)$ and $(m_1, m_2, m_3)$ for both normal hierarchical (NH) and inverted hierarchical (IH) cases. Parameterizing the neutrino mass matrix using best fit oscillation and cosmology data for a QDN scenario, we find the right-handed Majorana mass matrix using type I seesaw formula for two types of Dirac neutrino mass matrices: charged lepton (CL) type and up quark (UQ) type. Incorporating the presence of type II seesaw term which arises naturally in generic left-right symmetric models (LRSM) along with type I term, we compare the predictions for neutrino mass parameters with the experimental values. Within such a framework and incorporating both oscillation as well as cosmology data, we show that QDN scenario of neutrino masses can still survive in nature with some minor exceptions. A viable extension of the standard model with an abelian gauged flavor symmetry is briefly discussed which can give rise to the desired structure of the Dirac and Majorana mass matrices.
