Manifestation of quantum entanglement between harmonic oscillators in de Sitter

Two harmonic oscillators interacting through the exchange of a quantum field leads to non-zero entanglement between the two, which is absent for classical interaction. In this work, we determine the entanglement between two such harmonic oscillators living in an expanding universe. It turns out that, if the oscillators are within the Hubble horizon, with their frequencies are comparable to the rate of expansion of the universe, the entanglement is non-zero and significant. While, for oscillators outside the Hubble horizon, with oscillation frequencies much higher than the expansion rate, the entanglement is negligibly small.

Distinguishing Jordan and Einstein frames in gravity through entanglement

In general relativity, the use of conformal transformation is ubiquitous and leads to two different frames of reference, known as the Jordan and the Einstein frames. Typically, the transformation from the Jordan frame to the Einstein frame involves introducing an additional scalar degree of freedom, often already present in the theory. We will show that at the quantum level, owing to this extra scalar degree of freedom these two frames exhibit subtle differences that the entanglement between two massive objects can probe.

Perturbation Theory in a Microcanonical Ensemble

The microcanonical ensemble is a natural starting point of statistical mechanics. However, when it comes to perturbation theory in statistical mechanics, traditionally only the canonical and grand canonical ensembles have been used. In this article we show how the microcanonical ensemble can be directly used to carry out perturbation theory for both non-interacting and interacting systems. We obtain the first non-trivial order answers for the specific heat of anharmonic oscillators and for the virial expansion in real gases. They are in exact agreement with the results obtained from the canonical ensemble. In addition, we show how crossover functions for the specific heat of anharmonic oscillators can be constructed using a microcanonical ensemble and also how the subsequent terms of the virial expansion can be obtained. However, we find that if we consider quantum free particles in a one-dimensional box of extension L, then the two ensembles give strikingly different answers for the first correction to the specific heat in the high temperature limit.
