Uniform subconvexity and symmetry breaking reciprocity

A non-symmetric reciprocity formula is established that expresses the fourth moment of automorphic L-functions of level q and primitive central character twisted by the l-th Hecke eigenvalue as a twisted mixed moment of automorphic L-functions of level l and trivial central character. As an application, uniform subconvexity bounds for L-functions in the level and the eigenvalue aspect are derived.

The fifth moment of Hecke L-functions in the weight aspect

We prove an upper bound for the fifth moment of Hecke L-functions associated to holomorphic Hecke cusp forms of full level and weight k in a dyadic interval K < k < 2K, as K tends to infinity. The bound is sharp on Selberg's eigenvalue conjecture.

A conjecture for the regularized fourth moment of Eisenstein series

We formulate a version of the Random Wave Conjecture for the fourth moment of Eisenstein series which is based on Zagier's regularized inner product. We prove an asymptotic formula expressing the regularized fourth moment as a mean value of L-functions. This is an advantage over previous work in the literature, which has approached the fourth moment problem through truncated Eisenstein series and not yielded a suitable expression in terms of L-functions.

A mean value of a triple product of $L$-functions

Luo has proven an optimal upper bound for the $L^4$-norm of dihedral Maass forms of large eigenvalue, by bounding a mean value of triple product $L$-functions. Motivated by this result, we study a mean value of $L$-functions having similar shape, and obtain for it an asymptotic with power savings. Our work may be helpful in eventually obtaining an asymptotic for the $L^4$-norm.

The divisor function in arithmetic progressions modulo prime powers

We study the average value of the divisor function $τ(n)$ for $n\le x$ with $n \equiv a \bmod q$. The divisor function is known to be evenly distributed over arithmetic progressions for all $q$ that are a little smaller than $x^{2/3}$. We show how to go past this barrier when $q=p^k$ for odd primes $p$ and any fixed integer $k\ge 7$.

Non-vanishing of Dirichlet L-functions in Galois orbits

A well known result of Iwaniec and Sarnak states that for at least one third of the primitive Dirichlet characters to a large modulus q, the associated L-functions do not vanish at the central point. When q is a large power of a fixed prime, we prove the same proportion already among the primitive characters of any given order. The set of primitive characters modulo q of a given order can be described as an orbit under the action of the Galois group of the corresponding cyclotomic field. We also prove a positive proportion of nonvanishing within substantially shorter orbits generated by intermediate Galois groups as soon as they are larger than roughly the square-root of the prime-power conductor.

$L^4$-norms of Hecke newforms of large level

We prove a new upper bound for the $L^4$-norm of a holomorphic Hecke newform of large fixed weight and prime level $q\to \infty$. This is achieved by proving a sharp mean value estimate for a related $L$-function on GL(6)

Distribution of mass of holomorphic cusp forms

We prove an upper bound for the L^4-norm and for the L^2-norm restricted to the vertical geodesic of a holomorphic Hecke cusp form of large weight. The method is based on Watson's formula and estimating a mean value of certain L-functions of degree 6. Further applications to restriction problems of Siegel modular forms and subconvexity bounds of degree 8 L-functions are given.

Simultaneous non-vanishing of $GL(3)\times GL(2)$ and GL(2) $L$-functions

Fix $g$ a Hecke-Maass form for $SL_3(\mathbb{Z})$. Let $q$ be any large prime number. In the family of holomorphic newforms $f$ of level $q$ and fixed weight, we find the average value of the product $L(\half,g\times f)L(\half,f)$. From this we derive a result on the simultaneous non-vanishing of these $L$-functions at the central point.

On the subconvexity problem for $GL(3)\times GL(2)$ $L$-functions

Fix $g$ a self-dual Hecke-Maass form for $SL_3(\mathbb{Z})$. Let $f$ be a holomorphic newform of prime level $q$ and fixed weight. Conditional on a lower bound for a short sum of squares of Fourier coefficients of $f$, we prove a subconvexity bound in the $q$ aspect for $L(s, g\times f)$ at the central point.

The second moment of Dirichlet twists of Hecke $L$-functions

Fix a Hecke cusp form $f$, and consider the $L$-function of $f$ twisted by a primitive Dirichlet character. As we range over all primitive characters of a large modulus $q$, what is the average behavior of the square of the central value of this $L$-function? Stefanicki proved an asymptotic valid only for $q$ having very few prime factors, and we extend this to almost all $q$.

Spacings between integers having typically many prime factors

We show that the sequence of integers which have nearly the typical number of distinct prime factors forms a Poisson process. More precisely, for $\de$ arbitrarily small and positive, the nearest neighbor spacings between integers $n$ with $|\om(n)-\log_2 n|\le (\log_2 n)^{\de}$ obey the Poisson distribution law.

Non-vanishing of the symmetric square $L$-function at the central point

Using the mollifier method, we show that for a positive proportion of holomorphic Hecke eigenforms of level one and weight bounded by a large enough constant, the associated symmetric square $L$-function does not vanish at the central point of its critical strip. We note that our proportion is the same as that found by other authors for other families of $L$-functions also having symplectic symmetry type.
