Rapid and accurate mosquito abundance forecasting with Aedes-AI neural networks

We present a method to convert weather data into probabilistic forecasts of Aedes aegypti abundance. The approach, which relies on the Aedes-AI suite of neural networks, produces weekly point predictions with corresponding uncertainty estimates. Once calibrated on past trap and weather data, the model is designed to use weather forecasts to estimate future trap catches. We demonstrate that when reliable input data are used, the resulting predictions have high skill. This technique may therefore be used to supplement vector surveillance efforts or identify periods of elevated risk for vector-borne disease outbreaks.

Computing Quasidegrees of A-graded Modules

We describe the main functions of the Macaulay2 package Quasidegrees. The purpose of this package is to compute the quasidegree set of a finitely generated A-graded module presented as the cokernel of a monomial matrix. We provide examples with motivation coming from A-hypergeometric systems.

Discrete Envy-free Division of Necklaces and Maps

We study the discrete variation of the classical cake-cutting problem where n players divide a 1-dimensional cake with exactly (n-1) cuts, replacing the continuous, infinitely divisible "cake" with a necklace of discrete, indivisible "beads." We focus specifically on envy-free divisions, exploring different constraints on player-preferences. We show we usually cannot guarantee an envy-free division and consider situations where we can obtain an envy-free division for relatively small. We also prove a 2-dimensional result with a grid of indivisible objects. This may be viewed as a way to divide a state with indivisible districts among a set of constituents, producing somewhat gerrymandered regions that form an envy-free division of the state.
