Analytic properties of some basic hypergeometric-Sobolev-type orthogonal polynomials

In this contribution we consider sequences of monic polynomials orthogonal with respect to a Sobolev-type inner product \[ \langle f,g \rangle _{S}:= \langle {\bf u}, f g\rangle +N (\mathscr D_q f)(α) (\mathscr D _{q}g)(α),\qquad α\in \mathbb R, \quad N\ge 0, \] where $\bf u$ is a $q$-classical linear functional and $\mathscr D _{q}$ is the $q$-derivative operator. We obtain some algebraic properties of these polynomials such as an explicit representation, a five-term recurrence relation as well as a second order linear $q$-difference holonomic equation fulfilled by such polynomials. We present an analysis of the behaviour of its zeros function of the mass $N$. In particular, we in the exact values of $N$ such that the smallest (respectively, the greatest) zero of the studied polynomials is located outside of the support of the measure. We conclude this work considering two examples.

Generalizations of generating functions for basic hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials

We derive generalized generating functions for basic hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials by applying connection relations with one free parameter to them. In particular, we generalize generating functions for the Askey-Wilson, continuous $q$-ultraspherical/Rogers, little $q$-Laguerre/Wall, and $q$-Laguerre polynomials. Depending on what type of orthogonality these polynomials satisfy, we derive corresponding definite integrals, infinite series, bilateral infinite series, and $q$-integrals.

On a generalization of the Rogers generating function

We derive a generalized Rogers generating function and corresponding definite integral, for the continuous $q$-ultraspherical polynomials by applying its connection relation and utilizing orthogonality. Using a recent generalization of the Rogers generating function by Ismail & Simeonov expanded in terms of Askey-Wilson polynomials, we derive corresponding generalized expansions for the continuous $q$-Jacobi, and Wilson polynomials with two and four free parameters respectively. Comparing the coefficients of the Askey-Wilson expansion to our continuous $q$-ultraspherical/Rogers expansion, we derive a new quadratic transformation for basic hypergeometric series connecting ${}_2ϕ_1$ and ${}_8ϕ_7$.

The power collection method for connection relations: Meixner polynomials

We introduce the power collection method for easily deriving connection relations for certain hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials in the $(q-)$Askey scheme. We summarize the full-extent to which the power collection method may be used. As an example, we use the power collection method to derive connection and connection-type relations for Meixner and Krawtchouk polynomials. These relations are then used to derive generalizations of generating functions for these orthogonal polynomials. The coefficients of these generalized generating functions are in general, given in term of multiple hypergeometric functions. From derived generalized generating functions, we derive corresponding contour integral and infinite series expressions by using orthogonality.

A Survey on q-Polynomials and their Orthogonality Properties

In this paper we study the orthogonality conditions satisfied by the classical q-orthogonal polynomials that are located at the top of the q-Hahn tableau (big q-jacobi polynomials (bqJ)) and the Nikiforov-Uvarov tableau (Askey-Wilson polynomials (AW)) for almost any complex value of the parameters and for all non-negative integers degrees. We state the degenerate version of Favard's theorem, which is one of the keys of the paper, that allow us to extend the orthogonality properties valid up to some integer degree N to Sobolev type orthogonality properties. We also present, following an analogous process that applied in [16], tables with the factorization and the discrete Sobolev-type orthogonality property for those families which satisfy a finite orthogonality property, i.e. it consists in sum of finite number of masspoints, such as q-Racah (qR), q-Hahn (qH), dual q-Hahn (dqH), and q-Krawtchouk polynomials (qK), among others. -- [16] R. Matrices Totally Positive Relative to a Tree

It is known that for a totally positive (TP) matrix, the eigenvalues are positive and distinct and the eigenvector associated with the smallest eigenvalue is totally nonzero and has an alternating sign pattern. Here, a certain weakening of the TP hypothesis is shown to yield a similar conclusion.
