Stationary solutions for the parity-even sector of the CPT-even and Lorentz-covariance-violating term of the standard model extension

In this work, we focus on some properties of the parity-even sector of the CPT-even electrodynamics of the standard model extension. We analyze how the six non-birefringent terms belonging to this sector modify the static and stationary classical solutions of the usual Maxwell theory. We observe that the parity-even terms do not couple the electric and magnetic sectors (at least in the stationary regime). The Green's method is used to obtain solutions for the field strengths E and B at first order in the Lorentz- covariance-violating parameters. Explicit solutions are attained for point-like and spatially extended sources, for which a dipolar expansion is achieved. Finally, it is presented an Earth-based experiment that can lead (in principle) to an upper bound on the anisotropic coefficients as stringent as $(\widetildeκ_{e-}) ^{ij}<2.9\times10^{-20}.$

Lorentz-violating contributions of the Carroll-Field-Jackiw model to the CMB anisotropy

We study the finite temperature properties of the Maxwell-Carroll-Field-Jackiw (MCFJ) electrodynamics for a purely spacelike background. Starting from the associated finite temperature partition function, a modified black body spectral distribution is obtained. We thus show that, if the CMB radiation is described by this model, the spectrum presents an anisotropic angular energy density distribution. We show, at leading order, that the Lorentz-breaking contributions for the Planck's radiation law and for the Stefan-Boltzmann's law are nonlinear in frequency and quadratic in temperature, respectively. Using our results, we set up bounds for the Lorentz-breaking parameter, and show that Lorentz violation in the context of the MCFJ model is unable to yield the known CMB anisotropy (of 1 part in $10^{5})$.

Classical solutions for the Carroll-Field-Jackiw-Proca electrodynamics

In the present work, we investigate classical solutions of the Maxwell-Carroll-Field-Jackiw-Proca (MCFJP) electrodynamics for the cases a purely timelike and spacelike Lorentz-violating (LV) background. Starting from the MCFJP Lagrangian and the associated wave equations written for the potential four-vector, the tensor form of the Green function is achieved. In the timelike case, the components of the stationary Green function are explicitly written. The classical solutions for the electric and magnetic field strengths are then evaluated, being observed that the electric sector is not modified by the LV background, keeping the Maxwell-Proca behavior. The magnetic field associated with a charge in uniform motion presents an oscillating behavior that also provides an oscillating MCFJ solution (in the limit of a vanishing Proca mass), but does not recover the Maxwell-Proca solution in the limit of vanishing background. In the spacelike case, the stationary Green function is written and also explicitly carried out in the regime of a small background. The electric and magnetic fields reveal to possess an exponentially decaying behavior, that recover the Maxwell-Proca solutions.

Exact Renormalization of Massless QED2

We perform the exact renormalization of two-dimensional massless gauge theories. Using these exact results we discuss the cluster property and confinement in both the anomalous and chiral Schwinger models.

On the origin of divergences in massless $QED_2$

We show that ultraviolet divergences found in fermionic Green's functions of massless $QED_2$ have an essentially non-perturbative nature. We investigate their origin both in gauge invariant formalism (the one where we introduce Wess-Zumino fields to restore quantum gauge invariance) and in gauge non-invariant formalism, mapping two different but equivalent mechanisms responsible for their appearance. We find the same results in both approaches, what contradicts a previous work of Jian-Ge, Qing-Hai and Yao-Yang, that found no divergences in the chiral Schwinger model considered in the gauge invariant formalism.

On the Renormalizability of Theories with Gauge Anomalies

We consider the detailed renormalization of two (1+1)-dimensional gauge theories which are quantized without preserving gauge invariance: the chiral and the "anomalous" Schwinger models. By regularizing the non-perturbative divergences that appear in fermionic Green's functions of both models, we show that the "tree level" photon propagator is ill-defined, thus forcing one to use the complete photon propagator in the loop expansion of these functions. We perform the renormalization of these divergences in both models to one loop level, defining it in a consistent and semi-perturbative sense that we propose in this paper.
