Spectral Properties of Schwarzschild Instantons

We study spectral properties of the Dirac and scalar Laplace operator on the Euclidean Schwarzschild space, both twisted by a family of abelian connections with anti-self-dual curvature. We show that the zero-modes of the gauged Dirac operator, first studied by Pope, take a particularly simple form in terms of the radius of the Euclidean time orbits, and interpret them in the context of geometric models of matter. For the gauged Laplace operator, we study the spectrum of bound states numerically and observe that it can be approximated with remarkable accuracy by that of the exactly solvable gauged Laplace operator on the Euclidean Taub-NUT space.

Taub-NUT Dynamics with a Magnetic Field

We study classical and quantum dynamics on the Euclidean Taub-NUT geometry coupled to an abelian gauge field with self-dual curvature and show that, even though Taub-NUT has neither bounded orbits nor quantum bound states, the magnetic binding via the gauge field produces both. The conserved Runge-Lenz vector of Taub-NUT dynamics survives, in a modified form, in the gauged model and allows for an essentially algebraic computation of classical trajectories and energies of quantum bound states. We also compute scattering cross sections and find a surprising electric-magnetic duality. Finally, we exhibit the dynamical symmetry behind the conserved Runge-Lenz and angular momentum vectors in terms of a twistorial formulation of phase space.

Dirac operators on the Taub-NUT space, monopoles and SU(2) representations

We analyse the normalisable zero-modes of the Dirac operator on the Taub-NUT manifold coupled to an abelian gauge field with self-dual curvature, and interpret them in terms of the zero modes of the Dirac operator on the 2-sphere coupled to a Dirac monopole. We show that the space of zero modes decomposes into a direct sum of irreducible SU(2) representations of all dimensions up to a bound determined by the spinor charge with respect to the abelian gauge group. Our decomposition provides an interpretation of an index formula due to Pope and provides a possible model for spin in recently proposed geometric models of matter.
