The top coefficient of the Links-Gould invariant is Murasugi-sum multiplicative

We prove that the Laurent polynomial in $\mathbb{Z}[q^{\pm 1}]$ that is the top coefficient of the Links-Gould invariant of the boundary of a Seifert surface is multiplicative under arbitrary Murasugi sums of minimal genus Seifert surfaces. This extends a previous result of the second and third authors which only holds for plumbing, i.e. 4-Murasugi sum. Our technique relies on quantum supergroup themselves and PBW basis rather than the skein relations used in the previous work.

Top coefficients of ADO invariants are Murasugi-sum multiplicative

The Akutsu-Deguchi-Ohtsuki (ADO) invariants of links are a non-semisimple version of the colored Jones polynomials. We prove that the top coefficients of the ADO invariants of links in $S^3$ are multiplicative under Murasugi-sum along connected minimal genus Seifert surfaces. More generally, for any simple complex Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ of type ADE and any $r\geq 3$, we prove that the top coefficient of the $r$-th $\mathfrak{g}$-ADO invariant is multiplicative under Murasugi-sum. As a corollary, we get that all the $\mathfrak{g}$-ADO invariants of fibred links are $q$-monic, generalizing a previous result of the authors for $\mathfrak{sl}_2$. Moreover, whenever $\mathfrak{u}_q(\mathfrak{g})$ is ribbon, we find an expression for the top coefficient of the $r$-th $\mathfrak{g}$-ADO invariant in terms of Hopf algebra integrals of universal $\mathfrak{u}_q(\mathfrak{g})$-invariants of bottom tangles.

A Fast, Strong, Topologically Meaningful and Fun Knot Invariant

In this paper we discuss a pair of polynomial knot invariants $Θ=(Δ,θ)$ which is: * Theoretically and practically fast: $Θ$ can be computed in polynomial time. We can compute it in full on random knots with over 300 crossings, and its evaluation at simple rational numbers on random knots with over 600 crossings. * Strong: Its separation power is much greater than the hyperbolic volume, the HOMFLY-PT polynomial and Khovanov homology (taken together) on knots with up to 15 crossings (while being computable on much larger knots). * Topologically meaningful: It gives a genus bound, and there are reasons to hope that it would do more. * Fun: Scroll to Figures 1.1-1.4, 3.1, and 6.2. $Δ$ is merely the Alexander polynomial. $θ$ is almost certainly equal to an invariant that was studied extensively by Ohtsuki, continuing Rozansky, Kricker, and Garoufalidis. Yet our formulas, proofs, and programs are much simpler and enable its computation even on very large knots.

A plumbing-multiplicative function from the Links-Gould invariant

We prove that the Laurent polynomial in $\mathbb{Z}[q^{\pm 1}]$ that is the top coefficient of the Links-Gould invariant of the boundary of a Seifert surface is multiplicative under plumbing of surfaces. We deduce that the Links-Gould invariant of a fibred link in $S^3$ is $\mathbb{Z}[q^{\pm 1}]$-monic. As a purely topological application, we deduce a ``plumbing-uniqueness'' statement for links that bound surfaces obtained by plumbing/deplumbing unknotted twisted annuli as well as providing an obstruction for links to bound such surfaces.

A perturbed Alexander polynomial for singular knots

We introduce a version of the Alexander polynomial for singular knots and tangles and show how it can be strengthened considerably by introducing a perturbation. For singular long knots, we also prove that our Alexander polynomial agrees with previous definitions.

Non-semisimple $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ quantum invariants of fibred links

The Akutsu-Deguchi-Ohtsuki (ADO) invariants are the most studied quantum link invariants coming from a non-semisimple tensor category. We show that, for fibered links in $S^3$, the degree of the ADO invariant is determined by the genus and the top coefficient is a root of unity. More precisely, we prove that the top coefficient is determined by the Hopf invariant of the plane field of $S^3$ associated to the fiber surface. Our proof is based on the genus bounds established in our previous work, together with a theorem of Giroux-Goodman stating that fiber surfaces in the three-sphere can be obtained from a disk by plumbing/deplumbing Hopf bands.

A Perturbed-Alexander Invariant

In this note we give concise formulas, which lead to a simple and fast computer program that computes a powerful knot invariant. This invariant $ρ_1$ is not new, yet our formulas are by far the simplest and fastest: given a knot we write one of the standard matrices $A$ whose determinant is its Alexander polynomial, yet instead of computing the determinant we consider a certain quadratic expression in the entries of $A^{-1}$. The proximity of our formulas to the Alexander polynomial suggest that they should have a topological explanation. This we don't have yet.

Quantum fundamental group of knot and its $SL_2$ representation

The theory of bottom tangles is used to construct a quantum fundamental group. On the other hand, the skein module is considered as a quantum analogue of the $SL(2)$ representation of the fundamental group. Here we construct the skein module of a knot complement by using the bottom tangles. We first construct the universal space of quantum representations, which is a quantum analogue of the fundamental group, and then factor it by the skein relation to get the skein module. We also investigate the action of the quantum torus to the boundary of complement, and derive the recurrence relation of the colored Jones polynomial, which is known as $A_q$ polynomial.

Genus bounds from unrolled quantum groups at roots of unity

For any simple complex Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we show that the degrees of the "ADO" link polynomials coming from the unrolled restricted quantum group $\overline{U}^H_q(\mathfrak{g})$ at a root of unity give lower bounds to the Seifert genus of the link. We give a direct simple proof of this fact relying on a Seifert surface formula involving universal $\mathfrak{u}_q(\mathfrak{g})$-invariants, where $\mathfrak{u}_q(\mathfrak{g})$ is the small quantum group. We give a second proof by showing that the invariant $P_{\mathfrak{u}_q(\mathfrak{b})}^θ(K)$ of our previous work coincides with such ADO invariants, where $\mathfrak{u}_q(\mathfrak{b})$ is the Borel part of $\mathfrak{u}_q(\mathfrak{g})$. To prove this, we show that equivariantizations of relative Drinfeld centers of crossed products essentially contain unrolled restricted quantum groups, a fact that could be of independent interest.

Quantized representations of knot groups

We propose a new non-commutative generalization of the representation variety and the character variety of a knot group. Our strategy is to reformulate the construction of the algebra of functions on the space of representations in terms of Hopf algebra objects in a braided category (braided Hopf algebra). The construction works under the assumption that the algebra is braided commutative. The resulting knot invariant is a module with a coadjoint action. Taking the coinvariants yields a new quantum character variety that may be thought of as an alternative to the skein module. We give concrete examples for a few of the simplest knots and links.

Genus bounds for twisted quantum invariants

By twisted quantum invariants we mean polynomial invariants of knots in the three-sphere endowed with a representation of the fundamental group into the automorphism group of a Hopf algebra $H$. These are obtained by the Reshetikhin-Turaev construction extended to the $\mathrm{Aut}(H)$-twisted Drinfeld double of $H$, provided $H$ is finite dimensional and $\mathbb{N}^m$-graded. We show that the degree of these polynomials is bounded above by $2g(K)\cdot d(H)$ where $g(K)$ is the Seifert genus of a knot $K$ and $d(H)$ is the top degree of the Hopf algebra. When $H$ is an exterior algebra, our theorem recovers Friedl and Kim's genus bounds for twisted Alexander polynomials. When $H$ is the Borel part of restricted quantum $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ at an even root of unity, we show that our invariant is the ADO invariant, therefore giving new genus bounds for these invariants.

New Quantum Invariants of Planar Knotoids

In this paper we discuss the applications of knotoids to modelling knots in open curves and produce new knotoid invariants. We show how invariants of knotoids generally give rise to well-behaved measures of how much an open curve is knotted. We define biframed planar knotoids, and construct new invariants of these objects that can be computed in polynomial time. As an application of these invariants we improve the classification of planar knotoids with up to five crossings by distinguishing several pairs of prime knotoids that were conjectured to be distinct by Goundaroulis et al.

Polynomial Invariant of Molecular Circuit Topology

The topological framework of circuit topology has recently been introduced to complement knot theory and to help in understanding the physics of molecular folding. Naturally evolved linear molecular chains, such as proteins and nucleic acids, often fold into 3D conformations with critical chain entanglements and local or global structural symmetries stabilised by formation contacts between different parts of the chain. Circuit topology captures the arrangements of intra-chain contacts within a given folded linear chain and allows for the classification and comparison of chains. Contacts keep chain segments in physical proximity and can be either mechanically hard attachments or soft entanglements that constrain a physical chain. Contrary to knot theory, which offers many established knot invariants, circuit invariants are just being developed. Here, we present polynomial invariants that are both efficient and sufficiently powerful to deal with any combination of soft and hard contacts. A computer implementation and table of chains with up to three contacts is also provided.

Perturbed Gaussian generating functions for universal knot invariants

We introduce a new approach to universal quantum knot invariants that emphasizes generating functions instead of generators and relations. All the relevant generating functions are shown to be perturbed Gaussians of the form $Pe^G$, where $G$ is quadratic and $P$ is a suitably restricted "perturbation". After developing a calculus for such Gaussians in general we focus on the rank one invariant $\mathbf{Z}_\mathbb{D}$ in detail. We discuss how it dominates the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-colored Jones polynomials and relates to knot genus and Whitehead doubling. In addition to being a strong knot invariant that behaves well under natural operations on tangles $\mathbf{Z}_\mathbb{D}$ is also computable in polynomial time in the crossing number of the knot. We provide a full implementation of the invariant and provide a table in an appendix.

Over then Under Tangles

Over-then-Under (OU) tangles are oriented tangles whose strands travel through all of their over crossings before any under crossings. In this paper we discuss the idea of gliding: an algorithm by which any tangle diagram could be brought to OU form. Unfortunately, the algorithm is flawed. However, by analyzing cases in which it does succeed we obtain a braid classification result, which we also extend to virtual braids, and provide a Mathematica implementation. We discuss other instances of successful "gliding ideas" which appear in the literature - sometimes in disguise - such as the Drinfel'd double construction, Enriquez's work on quantization of Lie bialgebras, and Audoux and Meilhan's classification of welded homotopy links,

The Slope Conjecture for Montesinos knots

The Slope Conjecture relates the degree of the colored Jones polynomial of a knot to boundary slopes of incompressible surfaces. Our aim is to prove the Slope Conjecture for Montesinos knots, and to match parameters of a state-formula for the colored Jones polynomial of such knots with the parameters that describe their corresponding incompressible surfaces via the Hatcher-Oertel algorithm.

The FKB invariant is the 3d index

We identify the q-series associated to an 1-efficient ideal triangulation of a cusped hyperbolic 3-manifold by Frohman and Kania-Bartoszynska with the 3D-index of Dimofte-Gaiotto-Gukov. This implies the topological invariance of the $q$-series of Frohman and Kania-Bartoszynska for cusped hyperbolic 3-manifolds. Conversely, we identify the tetrahedron index of Dimofte-Gaiotto-Gukov as a limit of quantum 6j-symbols.
