From Dirac spinor fields to ELKO

Dual-helicity eigenspinors of the charge conjugation operator (ELKO spinor fields) belong, together with Majorana spinor fields, to a wider class of spinor fields, the so-called flagpole spinor fields, corresponding to the class (5), according to Lounesto spinor field classification based on the relations and values taken by their associated bilinear covariants. There exists only six such disjoint classes: the first three corresponding to Dirac spinor fields, and the other three respectively corresponding to flagpole, flag-dipole and Weyl spinor fields. This paper is devoted to investigate and provide the necessary and sufficient conditions to map Dirac spinor fields to ELKO, in order to naturally extend the Standard Model to spinor fields possessing mass dimension one. As ELKO is a prime candidate to describe dark matter, an adequate and necessary formalism is introduced and developed here, to better understand the algebraic, geometric and physical properties of ELKO spinor fields, and their underlying relationship to Dirac spinor fields.

Isotopic liftings of Clifford algebras and applications in elementary particle mass matrices

Isotopic liftings of algebraic structures are investigated in the context of Clifford algebras, where it is defined a new product involving an arbitrary, but fixed, element of the Clifford algebra. This element acts as the unit with respect to the introduced product, and is called isounit. We construct isotopies in both associative and non-associative arbitrary algebras, and examples of these constructions are exhibited using Clifford algebras, which although associative, can generate the octonionic, non-associative, algebra. The whole formalism is developed in a Clifford algebraic arena, giving also the necessary pre-requisites to introduce isotopies of the exterior algebra. The flavor hadronic symmetry of the six u,d,s,c,b,t quarks is shown to be exact, when the generators of the isotopic Lie algebra su(6) are constructed, and the unit of the isotopic Clifford algebra is shown to be a function of the six quark masses. The limits constraining the parameters, that are entries of the representation of the isounit in the isotopic group SU(6), are based on the most recent limits imposed on quark masses.

Anti-de Sitter curvature radius constrained by quasars in brane-world scenarios

This paper is intended to investigate the luminosity due to accretion of gas in supermassive black holes (SMBHs) in the center of quasars, using a brane-world scenario naturally endowed with extra dimensions, whereon theories formulated introduce corrections in the field equations at high energies. SMBHs possess the necessary highly energetic environment for the introduction of these corrections, which are shown to produce small deviations in all SMBH properties and, consequentely, corrections in the accretion theory that supports quasars radiative processes. The radiative flux observed from quasars indicates these deviations, from which the magnitude of the AdS$_5$ bulk curvature radius, and consequently the extra dimension compactification radius is estimated.

The quadratic spinor Lagrangian, axial torsion current, and generalizations

We show that the Einstein-Hilbert, the Einstein-Palatini, and the Holst actions can be derived from the Quadratic Spinor Lagrangian (QSL), when the three classes of Dirac spinor fields, under Lounesto spinor field classification, are considered. To each one of these classes, there corresponds a unique kind of action for a covariant gravity theory. In other words, it is shown to exist a one-to-one correspondence between the three classes of non-equivalent solutions of the Dirac equation, and Einstein-Hilbert, Einstein-Palatini, and Holst actions. Furthermore, it arises naturally, from Lounesto spinor field classification, that any other class of spinor field (Weyl, Majorana, flagpole, or flag-dipole spinor fields) yields a trivial (zero) QSL, up to a boundary term. To investigate this boundary term we do not impose any constraint on the Dirac spinor field, and consequently we obtain new terms in the boundary component of the QSL. In the particular case of a teleparallel connection, an axial torsion 1-form current density is obtained. New terms are also obtained in the corresponding Hamiltonian formalism. We then discuss how these new terms could shed new light on more general investigations.

Conformal structures and twistors in the paravector model of spacetime

Some properties of the Clifford algebras Cl(3,0), Cl(1,3), Cl(1,3)(C), Cl(4,1) and Cl(2,4) are presented, and three isomorphisms between the Dirac-Clifford algebra C x Cl(1,3) and Cl(4,1) are exhibited, in order to construct conformal maps and twistors, using the paravector model of spacetime. The isomorphism between the twistor space inner product isometry group SU(2,2) and the group Spin+(2,4) is also investigated, in the light of a suitable isomorphism between C x Cl(1,3) and Cl(4,1). After reviewing the conformal spacetime structure, conformal maps are described in Minkowski spacetime as the twisted adjoint representation of Spin+(2,4), acting on paravectors. Twistors are then presented via the paravector model of Clifford algebras and related to conformal maps in the Clifford algebra over the Lorentzian R(4,1) spacetime. We construct twistors in Minkowski spacetime as algebraic spinors associated with the Dirac-Clifford algebra C x Cl(1,3) using one lower spacetime dimension than standard Clifford algebra formulations, since for this purpose the Clifford algebra over R(4,1) is also used to describe conformal maps, instead of R(2,4). Our formalism sheds some new light on the use of the paravector model and generalizations.

Lorentz-violating dilatations in the momentum space and some extensions on non-linear actions of Lorentz algebra-preserving systems

We work on some general extensions of the formalism for theories which preserve the relativity of inertial frames with a nonlinear action of the Lorentz transformations on momentum space. Relativistic particle models invariant under the corresponding deformed symmetries are presented with particular emphasis on deformed dilatation transformations. The algebraic transformations relating the deformed symmetries with the usual (undeformed) ones are provided in order to preserve the Lorentz algebra. Two distinct cases are considered: a deformed dilatation transformation with a spacelike preferred direction and a very special relativity embedding with a lightlike preferred direction. In both analysis we consider the possibility of introducing quantum deformations of the corresponding symmetries such that the spacetime coordinates can be reconstructed and the particular form of the real space-momentum commutator remains covariant. Eventually feasible experiments, for which Lorentz violating effects here pointed out may be detectable, are suggested.

The Effective Lorentzian and Teleparallel Spacetimes Generated by a Free Electromagnetic Field

In this paper we show that a free electromagnetic field living in Minkowski spacetime generates an effective Weitzenbock or an effective Lorentzian spacetime whose properties aredetermined in details. These results are possible because we found using the Clifford bundle formalism the noticeable result that the energy-momentum densities of a free electromagnetic field are sources of the Hodge duals of exact 2-form fields which satisfy Maxwell like equations.

Physical Effects of Extra Dimension and Concomitant Map between Photons and Gravitons in Randall-Sundrum Brane-World Scenario

We investigate, in Randall-Sundrum braneworld scenario, the relationship between perturbations of gravitational and electromagnetic waves in a black hole neighboorhood, proposing an extra-dimensional braneworld extension of the traditional formalism. Mutual transformations of electromagnetic and gravitational fields due to the strong fields in Reissner-Nordstrom black holes are analyzed from an effective 5-dimensional Randall-Sundrum braneworld perspective.

Extra dimensions in CERN LHC via mini-black holes: effective Kerr-Newman brane-world effects

We solve Einstein equations on the brane to derive the exact form of the braneworld-corrected perturbations in Kerr-Newman singularities, using Randall-Sundrum and Arkani-Hamed-Dimopoulos-Dvali (ADD) models. It is a consequence of such models the possibility that Kerr-Newman mini-black holes can be produced in LHC. We use this approach to derive a normalized correction for the Schwarzschild Myers-Perry radius of a static $(4+n)$-dimensional mini-black hole, using more realistic approaches arising from Kerr-Newman mini-black hole analysis. Besides, we prove that there are four Kerr-Newman black hole horizons in braneworld scenario we use, although only the outer horizon is relevant in the physical measurable processes. Parton cross sections in LHC and Hawking temperature are also investigated as functions of Planck mass (in the LHC range 1-10 TeV), mini-black hole mass and the number of large extra dimensions in braneworld large extra-dimensional scenarios. In this case a more realistic brane effect-corrected formalism can achieve more precisely the effective extra-dimensional Planck mass and the number of large extra dimensions -- in Arkani-Hamed-Dimopoulos-Dvali model -- or the size of the warped extra dimension -- in Randall-Sundrum formalism.

Hidden Consequence of Active Local Lorentz Invariance

In this paper we investigate a hidden consequence of the hypothesis that Lagrangians and field equations must be invariant under active local Lorentz transformations. We show that this hypothesis implies in an equivalence between spacetime structures with several curvature and torsion possibilities.

The Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian Density in a 2-dimensional Spacetime is an Exact Differential

Recently Kiriushcheva and Kuzmin claimed to have shown that the Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian cannot be written in any coordinate gauge as an exact differential in a 2-dimensional spacetime. Since this is contrary to other statements on the subject found in the literature, as e.g., by Deser and Jackiw, Jackiw, Grumiller, Kummer and Vassilevich it is necessary to do decide who has reason. This is done in this paper in a very simply way using the Clifford bundle formalism. In this version we added Section 18 which discusses a recent comment on our paper just posted by Kiriushcheva and Kuzmin.

The Dirac-Hestenes Equation for Spherical Symmetric Potentials in the Spherical and Cartesian Gauges

In this paper using the apparatus of the Clifford bundle formalism we show how straightforwardly solve in Minkowski spacetime the Dirac-Hestenes equation -- which is an appropriate representative in the Clifford bundle of differential forms of the usual Dirac equation -- by separation of variables for the case of a potential having spherical symmetry in the Cartesian and spherical gauges. We show that contrary to what is expected at a first sight, the solution of the DHE in both gauges has exactly the same mathematical difficulty.

On Clifford Subalgebras, Spacetime Splittings and Applications

Z2-gradings of Clifford algebras are reviewed and we shall be concerned with an alpha-grading based on the structure of inner automorphisms, which is closely related to the spacetime splitting, if we consider the standard conjugation map automorphism by an arbitrary, but fixed, splitting vector. After briefly sketching the orthogonal and parallel components of products of differential forms, where we introduce the parallel [orthogonal] part as the space [time] component, we provide a detailed exposition of the Dirac operator splitting and we show how the differential operator parallel and orthogonal components are related to the Lie derivative along the splitting vector and the angular momentum splitting bivector. We also introduce multivectorial-induced alpha-gradings and present the Dirac equation in terms of the spacetime splitting, where the Dirac spinor field is shown to be a direct sum of two quaternions. We point out some possible physical applications of the formalism developed.

Clifford algebra-parametrized octonions and generalizations

Introducing products between multivectors of Cl(0,7) and octonions, resulting in an octonion, and leading to the non-associative standard octonionic product in a particular case, we generalize the octonionic X-product, associated with the transformation rules for bosonic and fermionic fields on the tangent bundle over the 7-sphere, and the XY-product. We also present the formalism necessary to construct Clifford algebra-parametrized octonions. Finally we introduce a method to construct generalized octonionic algebras, where their octonionic units are parametrized by arbitrary Clifford multivectors. The products between Clifford multivectors and octonions, leading to an octonion, are shown to share graded-associative, supersymmetric properties. We also investigate the generalization of Moufang identities, for each one of the products introduced. The X-product equals twice the parallelizing torsion, given by the torsion tensor, and is used to investigate the S7 Kac-Moody algebra. The X-product has also been used to obtain triality maps and G2 actions, and it leads naturally to remarkable geometric and topological properties, for instance the Hopf fibrations and twistor formalism in ten dimensions. The paramount importance of octonions in the search for unification is based, for instance, in the fact that by extending the division-algebra-valued superalgebras to octonions, in D=11 an octonionic generalized Poincare superalgebra can be constructed, the so-called octonionic M-algebra that describes the octonionic M-theory where the octonionic super-2-brane and the octonionic super-5-brane sectors are shown to be equivalent. Also, there are other vast generalizations and applications of the octonionic formalism such as the classification of quaternionic and octonionic spinors and the pseudo-octonionic formalism.

Extended Grassmann and Clifford algebras

This paper is intended to investigate Grassmann and Clifford algebras over Peano spaces, introducing their respective associated extended algebras, and to explore these concepts also from the counterspace viewpoint. The exterior (regressive) algebra is shown to share the exterior (progressive) algebra in the direct sum of chiral and achiral subspaces. The duality between scalars and volume elements, respectively under the progressive and the regressive products is shown to have chirality, in the case when the dimension n of the Peano space is even. In other words, the counterspace volume element is shown to be a scalar or a pseudoscalar, depending on the dimension of the vector space to be respectively odd or even. The de Rham cochain associated with the differential operator is constituted by a sequence of exterior algebra homogeneous subspaces subsequently chiral and achiral. Thus we prove that the exterior algebra over the space and the exterior algebra constructed on the counterspace are only pseudoduals each other, when we introduce chirality. The extended Clifford algebra is introduced in the light of the periodicity theorem of Clifford algebras context, wherein the Clifford and extended Clifford algebras Cl(p,q) can be embedded in Cl(p+1,q+1), which is shown to be exactly the extended Clifford algebra. Clifford algebras are constructed over the counterspace, and the duality between progressive and regressive products is presented using the dual Hodge star operator. The differential and codifferential operators are also defined for the extended exterior algebras from the regressive product viewpoint, and it is shown they uniquely tumble right out progressive and regressive exterior products of 1-forms.

AdS Geometry, projective embedded coordinates and associated isometry groups

This work is intended to investigate the geometry of anti-de Sitter spacetime (AdS), from the point of view of the Laplacian Comparison Theorem (LCT), and to give another description of the hyperbolical embedding standard formalism of the de Sitter and anti-de Sitter spacetimes in a pseudo-Euclidean spacetime. It is shown how to reproduce some geometrical properties of AdS, from the LCT in AdS, choosing suitable functions that satisfy basic properties of Riemannian geometry. We also introduce and discuss the well-known embedding of a 4-sphere and a 4-hyperboloid in a 5-dimensional pseudo-Euclidean spacetime, reviewing the usual formalism of spherical embedding and the way how it can retrieve the Robertson-Walker metric. With the choice of the de Sitter metric static frame, we write the so-called reduced model in suitable coordinates. We assume the existence of projective coordinates, since de Sitter spacetime is orientable. From these coordinates, obtained when stereographic projection of the de Sitter 4-hemisphere is done, we consider the Beltrami geodesic representation, which gives a more general formulation of the seminal full model described by Schrodinger, concerning the geometry and the topology of de Sitter spacetime. Our formalism retrieves the classical one if we consider the metric terms over the de Sitter splitting on Minkowski spacetime. From the covariant derivatives we find the acceleration of moving particles, Killing vectors and the isometry group generators associated to de the Sitter spacetime.

Conformal Klein-Gordon equations and quasinormal modes

Using conformal coordinates associated with conformal relativity -- associated with de Sitter spacetime homeomorphic projection into Minkowski spacetime -- we obtain a conformal Klein-Gordon partial differential equation, which is intimately related to the production of quasi-normal modes (QNMs) oscillations, in the context of electromagnetic and/or gravitational perturbations around, e.g., black holes. While QNMs arise as the solution of a wave-like equation with a Poschl-Teller potential, here we deduce and analytically solve a conformal radial d'Alembert-like equation, from which we derive QNMs formal solutions, in a proposed alternative to more completely describe QNMs. As a by-product we show that this radial equation can be identified with a Schrodinger-like equation in which the potential is exactly the second Poschl-Teller potential, and it can shed some new light on the investigations concerning QNMs.

Diffeomorphism Invariance and Local Lorentz Invariance

We show that diffeomorphism invariance of the Maxwell and the Dirac-Hestenes equations implies the equivalence among different universe models such that if one has a linear connection with non-null torsion and/or curvature the others have also. On the other hand local Lorentz invariance implies the surprising equivalence among different universe models that have in general different G-connections with different curvature and torsion tensors.
