Homotopical presentations of braid groups via reduced lifts

In 1997, Deligne showed that the reduced lift presentation of a finite type generalized braid group remains correct if it is (suitably) interpreted as a presentation of a topological monoid. In this expository paper, we point out that Deligne's argument does not require the 'finite type' hypothesis, so it gives a different proof of a theorem proved by Dobrinskaya in 2006. We also review how to use this result to construct an action of the braid group on the finite or affine Hecke $\infty$-category via intertwining functors.

Resolutions with conical slices and descent for the Brauer group classes of certain central reductions of differential operators in characteristic $p$

For a smooth variety $X$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p$, to a differential 1-form $α$ on the Frobenius twist $X^{(1)}$ one can associate an Azumaya algebra $\mathcal D_{X,α}$, defined as a certain central reduction of the algebra $\mathcal D_X$ of "crystalline differential operators" on $X$. For a resolution of singularities $π:X\to Y$ of an affine variety $Y$, we study for which $α$ does the class $[\mathcal D_{X,α}]$ in the Brauer group $\mathrm{Br}(X^{(1)})$ descend to $Y^{(1)}$. In the case when $X$ is symplectic, this question is related to Fedosov quantizations in characteristic $p$ and the construction of non-commutative resolutions of $Y$. We prove that the classes $[\mathcal D_{X,α}]$ descend étale locally for all $α$ if $\mathcal O_Y\simeq π_* \mathcal O_X$ and $R^{1,2}π_*\mathcal O_X =0$. We also define a certain class of resolutions which we call resolutions with conical slices, and prove that for a general reduction of a resolution with conical slices in characteristic $0$ to an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p$ classes $[\mathcal D_{X,α}]$ descend to $Y^{(1)}$ globally for all $α$. Finally we give some examples, in particular we show that Slodowy slices, Nakajima quiver varieties and hypertoric varieties are resolutions with conical slices.

Moduli spaces, indecomposable objects and potentials over a finite field

Given a linear category over a finite field such that the moduli space of its objects is a smooth Artin stack (and some additional conditions) we give formulas for an exponential sum over the set of absolutely indecomposable objects and a stacky sum over the set of all objects of the category, respectively, in terms of the geometry of the cotangent bundle on the moduli stack. The first formula was inspired by the work of Hausel, Letellier, and Rodriguez-Villegas. It provides a new approach for counting absolutely indecomposable quiver representations, vector bundles with parabolic structure on a projective curve, and irreducible etale local systems (via a result of Deligne). Our second formula resembles formulas appearing in the theory of Donaldson-Thomas invariants.

Quantum geometric Langlands correspondence in positive characteristic: the GL(N) case

We prove a version of quantum geometric Langlands conjecture in characteristic $p$. Namely, we construct an equivalence of certain localizations of derived categories of twisted crystalline $\mathcal D$-modules on the stack of rank $N$ vector bundles on an algebraic curve $C$ in characteristic $p$. The twisting parameters are related in the way predicted by the conjecture, and are assumed to be irrational (i.e., not in $\mathbb F_p$). We thus extend the results of arXiv:math/0602255 concerning the similar problem for the usual (non-quantum) geometric Langlands. In the course of the proof, we introduce a generalization of $p$-curvature for line bundles with non-flat connections, define quantum analogs of Hecke functors in characteristic $p$ and construct a Liouville vector field on the space of de Rham local systems on $C$.
