Quantum oscillation and nontrivial transport in the Dirac Semimetal Cd3As2 nanodevice

Here we demonstrate the Shubnikov de Haas oscillation in high-quality Cd3As2 nanowires grown by a chemical vapor deposition approach. The dominant transport of topological Dirac fermions is evident by the nontrivial Berry phase in the Landau Fan diagram. The quantum oscillations rise at a small field of 2 Tesla and preserves till up to 100K, revealing a sizeable Landau level gap and a mobility of over 2000 cm2/V-1s-1. The angle-variable oscillations indicates the isotropy of the bulk Dirac transport. The large estimated mean free path appeals the one-dimensional transport of Dirac semimetals.

Planar carbon nanotube-graphene hybrid films for high-performance broadband photodetectors

Graphene has emerged as a promising material for photonic applications fuelled by its superior electronic and optical properties. However, the photoresponsivity is limited by the low absorption cross section and ultrafast recombination rates of photoexcited carriers. Here we demonstrate a photoconductive gain of $\sim$ 10$^5$ electrons per photon in a carbon nanotube-graphene one dimensional-two dimensional hybrid due to efficient photocarriers generation and transport within the nanostructure. A broadband photodetector (covering 400 nm to 1550 nm) based on such hybrid films is fabricated with a high photoresponsivity of more than 100 AW$^{-1}$ and a fast response time of approximately 100 μs. The combination of ultra-broad bandwidth, high responsivities and fast operating speeds affords new opportunities for facile and scalable fabrication of all-carbon optoelectronic devices.

Experimental quantum-walk revival with a time-dependent coin

We demonstrate a quantum walk with time-dependent coin bias. With this technique we realize an experimental single-photon one-dimensional quantum walk with a linearly-ramped time-dependent coin flip operation and thereby demonstrate two periodic revivals of the walker distribution. In our beam-displacer interferometer, the walk corresponds to movement between discretely separated transverse modes of the field serving as lattice sites, and the time-dependent coin flip is effected by implementing a different angle between the optical axis of half-wave plate and the light propagation at each step. Each of the quantum-walk steps required to realize a revival comprises two sequential orthogonal coin-flip operators, with one coin having constant bias and the other coin having a time-dependent ramped coin bias, followed by a conditional translation of the walker.

Enhancing Magnetic Ordering in Cr-doped Bi2Se3 using High-TC Ferrimagnetic Insulator

We report a study of enhancing the magnetic ordering in a model magnetically doped topological insulator (TI), Bi2-xCrxSe3, via the proximity effect using a high-TC ferrimagnetic insulator Y3Fe5O12. The FMI provides the TI with a source of exchange interaction yet without removing the nontrivial surface state. By performing the elemental specific X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) measurements, we have unequivocally observed an enhanced TC of 50 K in this magnetically doped TI/FMI heterostructure. We have also found a larger (6.6 nm at 30 K) but faster decreasing (by 80% from 30 K to 50 K) penetration depth compared to that of diluted ferromagnetic semiconductors (DMSs), which could indicate a novel mechanism for the interaction between FMIs and the nontrivial TIs surface.

Realization of single-qubit positive operator-valued measurement via a one-dimensional photonic quantum walk

We perform generalized measurements of a qubit by realizing the qubit as a coin in a photonic quantum walk and subjecting the walker to projective measurements. Our experimental technique can be used to realize photonically any rank-1 single-qubit positive operator-valued measure via constructing an appropriate interferometric quantum-walk network and then projectively measuring the walker's position at the final step.

Experimental realization of a generalized measuring device via a one-dimensional photonic quantum walk

We demonstrate an implementation of unambiguous state discrimination of two equally probable single-qubit states via a one-dimensional photonic quantum walk experimentally. Furthermore we experimentally realize a quantum walk algorithm for implementing a generalized measurement in terms of positive operator value measurement on a single qubit. The measurement of the single-photons' positions corresponds to a measurement of an element of the positive operator value measurement on the polarizations of the single-photons.

Realization of a quantum walk in phase space using resonator-assisted double quantum dots

We implement a quantum walk in phase space with a new mechanism based on the superconducting resonator-assisted double quantum dots. By analyzing the hybrid system, we obtain the necessary factors of realization of a quantum walk in phase space: the walker, coin, coin flipping and conditional phase shift. In order to implement the coin flipping operator, we add a driving field to the resonator. The interaction between the quantum dots and resonator field is used to implement conditional phase shift. Furthermore, we show with different driving fields the quantum walk in phase space exhibits a ballistic behavior over 25 steps and numerically analyze the factors which influence the spreading of the walker in phase space.

A one-dimensional quantum walk with multiple-rotation on the coin

We introduce and analyze a one-dimensional quantum walk with two time-independent rotations on the coin. We study the influence on the property of quantum walk due to the second rotation on the coin. Based on the asymptotic solution in the long time limit, a ballistic behaviour of this walk is observed. This quantum walk retains the quadratic growth of the variance if the combined operator of the coin rotations is unitary. That confirms no localization exhibits in this walk. This result can be extended to the walk with multiple time-independent rotations on the coin.

The domination number and the least $Q$-eigenvalue

A vertex set $D$ of a graph $G$ is said to be a dominating set if every vertex of $V(G)\setminus D$ is adjacent to at least a vertex in $D$, and the domination number $γ(G)$ ($γ$, for short) is the minimum cardinality of all dominating sets of $G$. For a graph, the least $Q$-eigenvalue is the least eigenvalue of its signless Laplacian matrix. In this paper, for a nonbipartite graph with both order $n$ and domination number $γ$, we show that $n\geq 3γ-1$, and show that it contains a unicyclic spanning subgraph with the same domination number $γ$. By investigating the relation between the domination number and the least $Q$-eigenvalue of a graph, we minimize the least $Q$-eigenvalue among all the nonbipartite graphs with given domination number.

Shubnikov de Haas quantum oscillation of the surface states in the metallic Bismuth Telluride sheets

Metallic Bi2Te3 crystalline sheets with the room-temperature resistivity of above 10 mΩ cm were prepared and their magnetoresistive transport was measured in a field of up to 9 Tesla. The Shubnikov de Haas oscillations were identified from the secondly-derived magnetoresistance curves. While changing the angle between the field and normal axis of the sheets, we find that the oscillation periods present a cosine dependence on the angle. This indicates a two-dimensional transport due to the surface state. The work reveals a resolvable surface contribution to the overall conduction even in a metallic topological insulator.

Two-dimensional universal conductance fluctuations and the electron-phonon interaction of topological surface states in Bi2Te2Se nanoribbons

The universal conductance fluctuations (UCFs), one of the most important manifestations of mesoscopic electronic interference, have not yet been demonstrated for the two-dimensional surface state of topological insulators (TIs). Even if one delicately suppresses the bulk conductance by improving the quality of TI crystals, the fluctuation of the bulk conductance still keeps competitive and difficult to be separated from the desired UCFs of surface carriers. Here we report on the experimental evidence of the UCFs of the two-dimensional surface state in the bulk insulating Bi2Te2Se nanoribbons. The solely-B\perp-dependent UCF is achieved and its temperature dependence is investigated. The surface transport is further revealed by weak antilocalizations. Such survived UCFs of the topological surface states result from the limited dephasing length of the bulk carriers in ternary crystals. The electron-phonon interaction is addressed as a secondary source of the surface state dephasing based on the temperature-dependent scaling behavior.
