On the Optimal Integer-Forcing Precoding: A Geometric Perspective and a Polynomial-Time Algorithm

The joint optimization of the integer matrix $\mathbf{A}$ and the power scaling matrix $\mathbf{D}$ is central to achieving the capacity-approaching performance of Integer-Forcing (IF) precoding. This problem, however, is known to be NP-hard, presenting a fundamental computational bottleneck. In this paper, we reveal that the solution space of this problem admits a intrinsic geometric structure: it can be partitioned into a finite number of conical regions, each associated with a distinct full-rank integer matrix $\mathbf{A}$. Leveraging this decomposition, we transform the NP-hard problem into a search over these regions and propose the Multi-Cone Nested Stochastic Pattern Search (MCN-SPS) algorithm. Our main theoretical result is that MCN-SPS finds a near-optimal solution with a computational complexity of $\mathcal{O}\left(K^4\log K\log_2(r_0)\right)$, which is polynomial in the number of users $K$. Numerical simulations corroborate the theoretical analysis and demonstrate the algorithm's efficacy.

Transmit Weights, Not Features: Orthogonal-Basis Aided Wireless Point-Cloud Transmission

The widespread adoption of depth sensors has substantially lowered the barrier to point-cloud acquisition. This letter proposes a semantic wireless transmission framework for three dimension (3D) point clouds built on Deep Joint Source - Channel Coding (DeepJSCC). Instead of sending raw features, the transmitter predicts combination weights over a receiver-side semantic orthogonal feature pool, enabling compact representations and robust reconstruction. A folding-based decoder deforms a 2D grid into 3D, enforcing manifold continuity while preserving geometric fidelity. Trained with Chamfer Distance (CD) and an orthogonality regularizer, the system is evaluated on ModelNet40 across varying Signal-to-Noise Ratios (SNRs) and bandwidths. Results show performance on par with SEmantic Point cloud Transmission (SEPT) at high bandwidth and clear gains in bandwidth-constrained regimes, with consistent improvements in both Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) and CD. Ablation experiments confirm the benefits of orthogonalization and the folding prior.

How Breakable Is Privacy: Probing and Resisting Model Inversion Attacks in Collaborative Inference

Collaborative inference (CI) improves computational efficiency for edge devices by transmitting intermediate features to cloud models. However, this process inevitably exposes feature representations to model inversion attacks (MIAs), enabling unauthorized data reconstruction. Despite extensive research, there is no established criterion for assessing the difficulty of MIA implementation, leaving a fundamental question unanswered: \textit{What factors truly and verifiably determine the attack's success in CI?} Moreover, existing defenses lack the theoretical foundation described above, making it challenging to regulate feature information effectively while ensuring privacy and minimizing computational overhead. These shortcomings introduce three key challenges: theoretical gap, methodological limitation, and practical constraint. To overcome these challenges, we propose the first theoretical criterion to assess MIA difficulty in CI, identifying mutual information, entropy, and effective information volume as key influencing factors. The validity of this criterion is demonstrated by using the mutual information neural estimator. Building on this insight, we propose SiftFunnel, a privacy-preserving framework to resist MIA while maintaining usability. Specifically, we incorporate linear and non-linear correlation constraints alongside label smoothing to suppress redundant information transmission, effectively balancing privacy and usability. To enhance deployability, the edge model adopts a funnel-shaped structure with attention mechanisms, strengthening privacy while reducing computational and storage burdens. Experiments show that, compared to state-of-the-art defense, SiftFunnel increases reconstruction error by $\sim$30\%, lowers mutual and effective information metrics by $\geq$50\%, and reduces edge burdens by almost $20\times$, while maintaining comparable usability.

Partitioning for Intrinsic Model Inversion Resistance in Collaborative Inference

In collaborative inference (CI), transmitting intermediate representations $Z$ from edge devices enables model inversion attacks (MIA) that reconstruct the original inputs $X$, while existing defenses mainly perturb shallow-layer $Z$ at the cost of utility. We instead ask where an edge-cloud model should be partitioned to obtain intrinsic resistance to MIA. We challenge the intuition that depth is the driver of MIA resistance, and show that depth is sufficient only insofar as it enables a representational transition; this transition is necessary for intrinsic resistance and is marked by an abrupt rise in the lower bound of $H(X|Z)$. Correspondingly, the decisive variance term in the entropy bound shifts from a global variance to the intra-class mean-squared radius $R_c^2$ rather than dimensionality alone, yielding an $R_c^2$-based criterion to locate the transition zone, or identify it post hoc from MIA outcomes, which we term the Golden Partition Zone (GPZ). We further explain how $R_c^2$ evolves during training and show that it can be controlled through the label distribution; we refer to this controllable dynamic behavior as the Neural Vortex, an analysis-backed explanatory concept. Across four representative deep vision models, partitioning at the GPZ yields more than 4x higher reconstruction MSE compared to shallow splits; under entropy and inversion-model enhancements, decision-level representations provide 66 percent stronger resistance than feature-level ones, and we further observe that data type affects both the transition boundary and reconstruction.

Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface-Aided Secure Integrated Radar and Communication Systems

Despite the enhanced spectral efficiency brought by the integrated radar and communication technique, it poses significant risks to communication security when confronted with malicious radar targets. To address this issue, a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided transmission scheme is proposed to improve secure communication in two systems, i.e., the radar and communication co-existing (RCCE) system, where a single transmitter is utilized for both radar sensing and communication, and the dual-functional radar and communication (DFRC) system. At the design stage, optimization problems are formulated to maximize the secrecy rate while satisfying the radar detection constraint via joint active beamforming at the base station and passive beamforming of RIS in both systems. Particularly, a zero-forcing-based block coordinate descent (BCD) algorithm is developed for the RCCE system. Besides, the Dinkelbach method combined with semidefinite relaxation is employed for the DFRC system, and to further reduce the computational complexity, a Riemannian conjugate gradient-based alternating optimization algorithm is proposed. Moreover, the RIS-aided robust secure communication in the DFRC system is investigated by considering the eavesdropper's imperfect channel state information (CSI), where a bounded uncertainty model is adopted to capture the angle error and fading channel error of the eavesdropper, and a tractable bound for their joint uncertainty is derived. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the developed RIS-aided transmission scheme to improve the secrecy rate even with the eavesdropper's imperfect CSI, and comparisons between both systems reveal that the RCCE system can provide a higher secrecy rate than the DFRC system.

Relay Satellite Assisted LEO Constellation NOMA Communication System

This paper proposes a relay satellite assisted low earth orbit (LEO) constellation non-orthogonal multiple access combined beamforming (R-NOMA-BF) communication system, where multiple antenna LEO satellites deliver information to ground non-orthogonal users. To measure the service quality, we formulate a resource allocation problem to minimize the second-order difference between the achievable capacity and user request traffic. Based on the above problem, joint optimization for LEO satellite-cell assignment factor, NOMA power and BF vector is taken into account. The optimization variables are analyzed with respect to feasibility and non-convexity. Additionally, we provide a pair of effective algorithms, i.e., doppler shift LEO satellite-cell assisted monotonic programming of NOMA with BF vector (D-mNOMA-BF) and ant colony pathfinding based NOMA exponential cone programming with BF vector (A-eNOMA-BF). Two compromise algorithms regarding the above are also presented. Numerical results show that: 1) D-mNOMA-BF and A-eNOMA-BF algorithms are superior to that of orthogonal multiple access based BF (OMA-BF) and polarization multiplexing schemes; 2) With the increasing number of antennas and single satellite power, R-NOMA-BF system is able to expand users satisfaction; and 3) By comparing various imperfect successive interference cancellation, the performance of A-mNOMA-BF algorithm exceeds D-mNOMA-BF.

Lattice-Code Multiple Access: Architecture and Efficient Algorithms

This paper studies a $K$-user lattice-code based multiple-access (LCMA) scheme. Each user equipment (UE) encode its message with a practical lattice code, where we suggest a $2^m$-ary \emph{ring code} with symbol-wise bijective mapping to $2^m$-PAM. The coded-modulated signal is spread with its designated signature sequence, and all $K$ UEs transmit simultaneously. The LCMA receiver choose some integer coefficients, computes the associated $K$ streams of \emph{integer linear combinations} (ILCs) of the UEs' messages, and then reconstruct all UEs' messages from these ILC streams. To execute this, we put forth new efficient LCMA \emph{soft detection} algorithms, which calculate the a posteriori probability of the ILC over the lattice. The complexity is of order no greater than $O(K)$, suitable for massive access of a large $K$. The soft detection outputs are forwarded to $K$ ring-code decoders, which employ $2^m$-ary belief propagation to recover the ILC streams. To identify the optimal integer coefficients of the ILCs, a new ``%\emph{bounded independent vectors problem}" (BIVP) is established. We then solve this BIVP by developing a new \emph{rate-constraint sphere decoding} algorithm, significantly outperforming existing LLL and HKZ lattice reduction methods. Then, we develop optimized signature sequences of LCMA using a new target-switching steepest descent algorithm. With our developed algorithms, LCMA is shown to support a significantly higher load of UEs and exhibits dramatically improved error rate performance over state-of-the-art multiple access schemes such as interleave-division multiple-access (IDMA) and sparse-code multiple-access (SCMA). The advances are achieved with just parallel processing and $K$ single-user decoding operations, avoiding the implementation issues of successive interference cancelation and iterative detection.

Low Complexity Successive Cancellation Decoding of Polar Codes based on Pruning Strategy in Deletion Error Channels

A novel SC decoding method of polar codes is proposed in $d$-deletion channels, where a new pruning strategy is designed to reduce decoding complexity. Considering the difference of the scenario weight distributions, pruning thresholds for each node are designed separately according to a uniform constraint on the pruning error probability, which further reduce the number of scenarios that need to be calculated during the decoding procedure. In addition, by exploiting the properties of the joint weight distribution, a simplified calculation method of thresholds is proposed. Using this simplified calculation method, the number of scenarios that required to be calculated is reduced from $(d+1)(d+2)/2$ to $d+1$.

Unstoppable Attack: Label-Only Model Inversion via Conditional Diffusion Model

Model inversion attacks (MIAs) aim to recover private data from inaccessible training sets of deep learning models, posing a privacy threat. MIAs primarily focus on the white-box scenario where attackers have full access to the model's structure and parameters. However, practical applications are usually in black-box scenarios or label-only scenarios, i.e., the attackers can only obtain the output confidence vectors or labels by accessing the model. Therefore, the attack models in existing MIAs are difficult to effectively train with the knowledge of the target model, resulting in sub-optimal attacks. To the best of our knowledge, we pioneer the research of a powerful and practical attack model in the label-only scenario. In this paper, we develop a novel MIA method, leveraging a conditional diffusion model (CDM) to recover representative samples under the target label from the training set. Two techniques are introduced: selecting an auxiliary dataset relevant to the target model task and using predicted labels as conditions to guide training CDM; and inputting target label, pre-defined guidance strength, and random noise into the trained attack model to generate and correct multiple results for final selection. This method is evaluated using Learned Perceptual Image Patch Similarity as a new metric and as a judgment basis for deciding the values of hyper-parameters. Experimental results show that this method can generate similar and accurate samples to the target label, outperforming generators of previous approaches.

A Unified NOMA Framework in Beam-Hopping Satellite Communication Systems

This paper investigates the application of a unified non-orthogonal multiple access framework in beam hopping (U-NOMA-BH) based satellite communication systems. More specifically, the proposed U-NOMA-BH framework can be applied to code-domain NOMA based BH (CD-NOMA-BH) and power-domain NOMA based BH (PD-NOMA-BH) systems. To satisfy dynamic-uneven traffic demands, we formulate the optimization problem to minimize the square of discrete difference by jointly optimizing power allocation, carrier assignment and beam scheduling. The non-convexity of the objective function and the constraint condition is solved through Dinkelbach's transform and variable relaxation. As a further development, the closed-from and asymptotic expressions of outage probability are derived for CD/PD-NOMA-BH systems. Based on approximated results, the diversity orders of a pair of users are obtained in detail. In addition, the system throughput of U-NOMA-BH is discussed in delay-limited transmission mode. Numerical results verify that: i) The gap between traffic requests of CD/PD-NOMA-BH systems appears to be more closely compared with orthogonal multiple access based BH (OMA-BH); ii) The CD-NOMA-BH system is capable of providing the enhanced traffic request and capacity provision; and iii) The outage behaviors of CD/PD-NOMA-BH are better than that of OMA-BH.

Flexible Hybrid Beamforming for Spectrally Efficient 6G Joint Radar-Communications

Joint radar-communications (JRC) benefits from multi-functionality of radar and communication operations using same hardware and radio frequency (RF) spectrum resources. Thus JRC systems possess very high potential to be employed into the sixth generation (6G) standards. This paper designs a flexible beamformer for multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) JRC with maximized spectral efficiency (SE). Hybrid beamforming is implemented which constitutes lesser number of RF chains than number of transmitter antennas. We jointly express JRC rate with communication and radar entities including a weighting factor which depicts the dominance of one operation over the other. The joint-SE based proposed method optimally selects the number of RF chains with flexible hynrid beamforming design. Furthermore, when the communication operation takes place the proposed method takes into account the interference occurring from the radar operation and vice-versa. Fractional programming based selection procedure is used for flexible beamforming and optimal number of RF chains while considering interference of each operation. Simulation results are presented and compared with different baselines to show effectiveness of the proposed flexible hybrid beamforming method.

Simultaneously Transmitting and Reflecting Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Assisted NOMA Networks

Simultaneously transmitting/refracting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS) has been introduced to achieve full coverage area. This paper investigate the performance of STAR-RIS assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) networks over Rician fading channels, where the incidence signals sent by base station are reflected and transmitted to the nearby user and distant user, respectively. To evaluate the performance of STAR-RIS-NOMA networks, we derive new approximate expressions of outage probability and ergodic rate for a pair of users, in which the imperfect successive interference cancellation (ipSIC) and perfect SIC (pSIC) schemes are taken into consideration. Based on the asymptotic expressions, the diversity orders of the nearby user with ipSIC/pSIC and distant user are achieved carefully. The high signal-to-noise ratio slopes of ergodic rates for nearby user with pSIC and distant user are equal to $one$ and $zero$, respectively. In addition, the system throughput of STAR-RIS-NOMA is discussed in delay-limited and delay-tolerant modes. Simulation results are provided to verify the accuracy of the theoretical analyses and demonstrate that: 1) The outage probability of STAR-RIS-NOMA outperforms that of STAR-RIS assisted orthogonal multiple access (OMA) and conventional cooperative communication systems; 2) With the increasing of reflecting elements $K$ and Rician factor $κ$, the STAR-RIS-NOMA networks are capable of attaining the enhanced performance; and 3) The ergodic rates of STAR-RIS-NOMA are superior to that of STAR-RIS-OMA.

QoS-Oriented Sensing-Communication-Control Co-Design for UAV-Enabled Positioning

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled positioning that uses UAVs as aerial anchor nodes is a promising solution for providing positioning services in harsh environments. In previous research, the state sensing and control of UAVs were either ignored or simply set to be performed continuously, resulting in system instability or waste of wireless resources. Therefore, in this article, we propose a quality-of-service (QoS)-oriented UAV-enabled positioning system based on the concept of sensing-communication-control (SCC) co-design. We first establish the mathematical models of UAV state sensing and control. Then, the influence of sensing scheduling and transmission failure on UAV stability, as well as the performance of positioning services in the presence of UAV control error, are analyzed. Based on these models and analysis results, we further study the problem of minimizing the amount of data transmitted by optimizing the sensing scheduling and blocklength allocation under the condition of satisfying each user's demand. Finally, an efficient scheme is developed to solve this mixed-integer nonlinear problem. Numerical results show that the proposed system could work efficiently and meet users' requirements. In addition, compared with two benchmark schemes, our scheme reduces the failure rate or resource consumption of positioning services by more than 76.2% or 82.7%.

Optimized Rate-Profiling for PAC Codes

The polarization-adjusted convolutional (PAC) codes concatenate the polar transform and the convolutional transform to improve the decoding performance of the finite-length polar codes, where the rate-profile is used to construct the PAC codes by setting the positions of frozen bits. However, the optimal rateprofile method of PAC codes is still unknown. In this paper, an optimized rate-profile algorithm of PAC codes is proposed. First, we propose the normalized compression factor (NCF) to quantify the transmission efficiency of useful information, showing that the distribution of useful information that needs to be transmitted after the convolutional transform should be adaptive to the capacity profile after finite-length polar transform. This phenomenon indicates that the PAC code improves the transmission efficiency of useful information, which leads to a better decoding performance than the polar codes with the same length. Then, we propose a novel rate-profile method of PAC codes, where a quadratic optimization model is established and the Euclidean norm of the NCF spectrum is adopted to construct the objective function. Finally, a heuristic bit-swapping strategy is designed to search for the frozen set with high objective function values, where the search space is limited by considering the only bits with medium Hamming weight of the row index. Simulation results show that the PAC codes with the proposed optimized rate-profile construction have better decoding performance than the PAC codes with the originally proposed Reed-Muller design construction.

Virtual Network Function Placement in Satellite Edge Computing with a Potential Game Approach

Satellite networks, as a supplement to terrestrial networks, can provide effective computing services for Internet of Things (IoT) users in remote areas. Due to the resource limitation of satellites, such as in computing, storage, and energy, a computation task from a IoT user can be divided into several parts and cooperatively accomplished by multiple satellites to improve the overall operational efficiency of satellite networks. Network function virtualization (NFV) is viewed as a new paradigm in allocating network resources on-demand. Satellite edge computing combined with the NFV technology is becoming an emerging topic. In this paper, we propose a potential game approach for virtual network function (VNF) placement in satellite edge computing. The VNF placement problem aims to maximize the number of allocated IoT users, while minimizing the overall deployment cost. We formulate the VNF placement problem with maximum network payoff as a potential game and analyze the problem by a game-theoretical approach. We implement a decentralized resource allocation algorithm based on a potential game (PGRA) to tackle the VNF placement problem by finding a Nash equilibrium. Finally, we conduct the experiments to evaluate the performance of the proposed PGRA algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed PGRA algorithm can effectively address the VNF placement problem in satellite edge computing.

A Distributed Virtual Network Function Placement Approach in Satellite Edge and Cloud Computing

Satellite edge computing has become a promising way to provide computing services for Internet of Things (IoT) devices in remote areas, which are out of the coverage of terrestrial networks, nevertheless, it is not suitable for large-scale IoT devices due to the resource limitation of satellites. Cloud computing can provide sufficient available resources for IoT devices but it does not meet the service requirements of delay sensitive users as high network latency. Collaborative edge and cloud computing is to facilitate flexible service provisioning for numerous IoT devices by incorporating the advantages of edge and cloud computing. In this paper, we investigate the virtual network function (VNF) placement problem in collaborative satellite edge and cloud computing to minimize the satellite network bandwidth usage and the service end-to-end delay. We formulate the VNF placement problem as an integer non-linear programming problem and propose a distributed VNF placement (D-VNFP) algorithm to address it, as the VNF placement problem is NP-hard. The experiments are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed D-VNFP algorithm. The results show that the proposed D-VNFP algorithm outperforms the existing baseline algorithms of Greedy and Viterbi for solving the VNF placement problem in satellite edge and cloud computing.

Feasibility Study of UAV-Assisted Anti-Jamming Positioning

As the cost and technical difficulty of jamming devices continue to decrease, jamming has become one of the major threats to positioning service. Unfortunately, most conventional technologies are vulnerable to jamming attacks due to their inherent shortcomings like weak signal strength and unfavorable anchor geometry. Thanks to the high operational flexibility, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) could fly close to users to enhance signal strength while maintaining a satisfactory geometry, making it a potential solution to the above challenges. In this article, we propose a UAV-assisted anti-jamming positioning system, in which multiple UAVs first utilize time-difference-of-arrival (TDoA) measurements from ground reference stations and double-response two-way ranging (DR-TWR) measurements from UAV-to-UAV links to perform self-localization as well as clock synchronization, and then act as anchor nodes to provide TDoA positioning service for ground users in the presence of jamming. To evaluate the feasibility and performance of the proposed system, we first derive the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) of UAV self-localization. Then, the impacts of UAV position uncertainty and synchronization errors caused by jamming on positioning service are modeled, and the theoretical root-mean-square error (RMSE) of user position estimate is further derived. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed system is a promising alternative to existing positioning systems when their services are disrupted by jamming. The most notable advantage of the proposed system is that it is fully compatible with existing user equipment (UE) and positioning methods.

Towards Reliable UAV-Enabled Positioning in Mountainous Environments: System Design and Preliminary Results

Reliable positioning services are extremely important for users and devices in mountainous environments as it enables a variety of location-based applications. However, in such environments, the service reliability of conventional wireless positioning technologies is often disappointing. Frequent non-line-of-sight (NLoS) propagation and poor geometry of available anchor nodes are two significant challenges. Due to the high maneuverability and flexible deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), UAV-enabled positioning could be a promising solution to these challenges. Compared with satellites and terrestrial base stations, UAVs are capable of flying to places where both the propagation conditions and geometry are favorable for positioning. The eventual aim of this research project is to design a novel UAV-enabled positioning system that uses a low-altitude UAV platform to provide highly reliable services for ground users in mountainous environments. In this article, we introduce the recent progress made in the first phase of our project, including the following. First, the structure of the proposed system and the positioning method used are determined after comprehensive consideration of various factors. Utilizing the digital elevation model of the realistic terrain, we then establish a geometry-based NLoS probability model so that the NLoS propagation can be treated as a type of fault during the reliability analysis. Most importantly, a reliability prediction method and the corresponding metric are developed to evaluate the system's ability to provide reliable positioning services. At the end of this article, we also propose a voting-based method for improving the service reliability. Numerical results demonstrate the tremendous potential of the proposed system in reliable positioning.
