Characterization of linear spaces of matrices of constant rank from syzygy bundles

In this work, we characterize matrices of linear forms and constant rank, demonstrating that, under some natural assumptions, they are always associated with a syzygy bundle that fits into a (partially linear) resolution. Furthermore, this construction allows us to list all indecomposable matrices of constant rank up to 7, as well as describing the moduli spaces of simple vector bundles naturally defined by families of constant rank matrices.

Weak Lefschetz property of equigenerated complete intersections. Applications

In this paper, we prove that any Artinian complete intersection homogeneous ideal $I$ in $K[x_0,\cdots,x_n]$ generated by $n+1$ forms of degree $d\ge 2$ satisfies the weak Lefschetz property (WLP) in degree $t< d+\lceil \frac{d}{n} \rceil$. As a consequence, we get that the Jacobian ideal of a smooth 3-fold of degree $d\ge 7$ in ${\mathbb P}^4$ satisfies the weak Lefschetz property in degree $d$, answering a recent question of Beauville.

Saito's theorem revisited and application to free pencils of hypersurfaces

A hypersurface $X\subset \mathbb P^n$ is said to be free if its associated sheaf $T_X$ of vector fields tangent to $X$ is a free ${\mathcal O}_{\mathbb P^n}$-module. So far few examples of free hypersurfaces are known. In this short note, we reinterpret Saito's criterion of freeness in terms of multiple eigenschemes (ME) and as application we construct huge families of new examples of free reduced hypersurfaces in $\mathbb P^n$. All of them are union of hypersurfaces in a suitable pencil.

Betti numbers of full Perazzo algebras

In this paper we prove that any full Perazzo algebra $A_F$, whose Macaulay dual generator is a Perazzo form $F\in K[X_0,\dots,X_n,U_1,\dots,U_m]_d$ with $n+1 = \binom{d+m-2}{m-1}$, is the doubling of a 0-dimensional scheme in $\PP^{n+m}$ and we compute the graded Betti numbers of a minimal free resolution of $A_F$.

The weak Lefschetz property for artinian Gorenstein algebras of small Sperner number

For artinian Gorenstein algebras in codimension four and higher, it is well known that the Weak Lefschetz Property (WLP) does not need to hold. For Gorenstein algebras in codimension three, it is still open whether all artinian Gorenstein algebras satisfy the WLP when the socle degree and the Sperner number are both higher than six. We here show that all artinian Gorenstein algebras with socle degree $d$ and Sperner number at most $d+1$ satisfy the WLP, independent of the codimension. This is a sharp bound in general since there are examples of artinian Gorenstein algebras with socle degree $d$ and Sperner number $d+2$ that do not satisfy the WLP for all $d\ge 3$.

Perazzo hypersurfaces and the weak Lefschetz property

We deal with Perazzo hypersurfaces $X=V(f)$ in $\PP^{n+2}$ defined by a homogeneous polynomial $f(x_0,x_1,\dots,x_n,u,v)=p_0(u,v)x_0+p_1(u,v)x_1+\cdots +p_n(u,v)x_n+g(u,v)$, where $p_0,p_1,\dots ,p_n$ are algebraically dependent but linearly independent forms of degree $d-1$ in $K[u,v]$ and $g$ is a form in $K[u,v]$ of degree $d$. Perazzo hypersurfaces have vanishing hessian and, hence, the associated graded artinian Gorenstein algebra $A_f$ fails the strong Lefschetz property. In this paper, we first determine the maximum and minimum Hilbert function of $A_f$, we prove that the Hilbert function of $A_f$ is always unimodal and we determine when $A_f$ satisfies the weak Lefschetz property. We illustrate our results with many examples and we show that our results do not generalize to Perazzo hypersurfaces $X=V(f)$ in $\PP^{n+3}$ defined by a homogeneous polynomial $f(x_0,x_1,\dots,x_{n},u,v,w)=p_0(u,v,w)x_0+p_1(u,v,w)x_1+\cdots +p_{n}(u,v,w)x_{n}+g(u,v,w)$, where $p_0,p_1,\dots ,p_{n}$ are algebraically dependent but linearly independent forms of degree $d-1$ in $K[u,v,w]$ and $g$ is a form in $K[u,v,w]$ of degree $d$.

Companion varieties for root systems and Fermat arrangements

Unexpected hypersurfaces are a brand name for some special linear systems. They were introduced around 2017 and are a field of intensive study since then. They attracted a lot of attention because of their close tights to various other areas of mathematics including vector bundles, arrangements of hyperplanes, geometry of projective varieties. Our research is motivated by the what is now known as the BMSS duality, which is a new way of deriving projective varieties out of already constructed. The last author coined the concept of companion surfaces in the setting of unexpected curves admitted by the $B_3$ root system. Here we extend this construction in various directions. We revisit the configurations of points associated to either root systems or to Fermat arrangements and we study the geometry of the associated varieties and their companions.

Hypertetrahedral arrangements

In this paper, we introduce the notion of a complete hypertetrahedral arrangement $\mathcal{A}$ in $\mathbb{P}^{n}$. We address two basic problems. First, we describe the local freeness of $\mathcal{A}$ in terms of smaller complete hypertetrahedral arrangements and graph theory properties, specializing the Mustaţă-Schenck criterion. As an application, we obtain that general complete hypertetrahedral arrangements are not locally free. In the second part of this paper, we bound the initial degree of the first syzygy module of the Jacobian ideal of $\mathcal{A}$.

Uniform Steiner bundles

In this work we study $k$-type uniform Steiner bundles, being $k$ the lowest degree of the splitting. We prove sharp upper and lower bounds for the rank in the case $k=1$ and moreover we give families of examples for every allowed possible rank and explain which relation exists between the families. After dealing with the case $k$ in general, we conjecture that every $k$-type uniform Steiner bundle is obtained through the proposed construction technique.

The weak Lefschetz property for Artinian Gorenstein algebras of codimension three

We study the weak Lefschetz property of a class of graded Artinian Gorenstein algebras of codimension three associated in a natural way to the Apéry set of a numerical semigroup generated by four natural numbers. We show that these algebras have the weak Lefschetz property whenever the initial degree of their defining ideal is small.

Minimal set of binomial generators for certain Veronese 3-fold projections

The goal of this paper is to explicitly describe a minimal binomial generating set of a class of lattice ideals, namely the ideal of certain Veronese $3$-fold projections. More precisely, for any integer $d\ge 4$ and any $d$-th root $e$ of 1 we denote by $X_d$ the toric variety defined as the image of the morphism $φ_{T_d}:\mathbb{P}^3 \longrightarrow \mathbb{P}^{μ(T_d)-1}$ where $T_d$ are all monomials of degree $d$ in $k[x,y,z,t]$ invariant under the action of the diagonal matrix $M(1,e,e^2,e^3).$ In this work, we describe a $\mathbb{Z}$-basis of the lattice $L_{η}$ associated to $I(X_d)$ as well as a minimal binomial set of generators of the lattice ideal $I(X_d)=I_+(η)$.

Irreducibility of the moduli space of orthogonal instanton bundles on $\mathbb{P}^n$

In order to obtain existence criteria for orthogonal instanton bundles on $\mathbb{P}^n$, we provide a bijection between equivalence classes of orthogonal instanton bundles with no global sections and symmetric forms. Using such correspondence we are able to provide explicit examples of orthogonal instanton bundles with no global sections on $\mathbb{P}^n$ and prove that every orthogonal instanton bundle with no global sections on $\mathbb{P}^n$ and charge $c\geq 3$ has rank $r\leq (n-1)c$. We also prove that when the rank $r$ of the bundles reaches the upper bound, $\mathcal{M}_{\mathbb{P}^n}^{\mathcal{O}}(c,r)$, the coarse moduli space of orthogonal instanton bundles with no global sections on $\mathbb{P}^n$, with charge $c\geq 3$ and rank $r$, is affine, reduced and irreducible. Last, we construct Kronecker modules to determine the splitting type of the bundles in $\mathcal{M}_{\mathbb{P}^n}^{\mathcal{O}}(c,r)$, whenever is non-empty.

On the Coefficients of the Permanent and the Determinant of a Circulant Matrix. Applications

Let $d(N )$ (resp. $p(N )$) be the number of summands in the determinant (resp. permanent) of an $N\times N$ circulant matrix $A = (a_{ij} )$ given by $a_{ij} = X_{i+j}$ where $i + j$ should be considered $\mod N$ . This short note is devoted to prove that $d(N ) = p(N )$ if and only if $N$ is a prime power. We then give an application to homogeneous monomial ideals failing the Weak Lefschetz property.

Togliatti systems and Galois coverings

We study the homogeneous artinian ideals of the polynomial ring $K[x,y,z]$, generated by the homogenous polynomials of degree $d$ which are invariant under an action of the cyclic group $\mathbb Z/d\mathbb Z$, for any $d\geq 3$. We prove that they are all monomial Togliatti systems, and that they are minimal if the action is defined by a diagonal matrix having on the diagonal $(1, e, e^a)$, where $e$ is a primitive $d$-th root of the unity. We get a complete description when $d$ is prime or a power of a prime. We also establish the relation of these systems with linear Ceva configurations.

Circulant matrices and Galois-Togliatti systems

The goal of this article is to compare the coefficients in the expansion of the permanent with those in the expansion of the determinant of a three-lines circulant matrix. As an application we prove a conjecture concerning the minimality of Galois-Togliatti systems.

A Horrocks' theorem for reflexive sheaves

In this paper, we define $m$-tail reflexive sheaves as reflexive sheaves on projective spaces with the simplest possible cohomology. We prove that the rank of any $m$-tail reflexive sheaf $\mathcal{E}$ on $\mathcal{P}^n$ is greater or equal to $ nm-m$. We completely describe $m$-tail reflexive sheaves on $\mathcal{P}^n$ of minimal rank and we construct huge families of $m$-tail reflexive sheaves of higher rank.

On the classification of Togliatti systems

In [MeMR], Mezzetti and Miró-Roig proved that the minimal number of generators $μ(I)$ of a minimal (smooth) monomial Togliatti system $I\subset k[x_{0},\dotsc,x_{n}]$ satisfies $2n+1\le μ(I)\le \binom{n+d-1}{n-1}$ and they classify all smooth minimal monomial Togliatti systems $I\subset k[x_{0},\dotsc,x_{n}]$ with $2n+1\le μ(I)\le 2n+2$. In this paper, we address the first open case. We classify all smooth monomial Togliatti systems $I\subset k[x_{0},\dotsc,x_{n}]$ of forms of degree $d\ge 4$ with $μ(I)=2n+3$ and $n\ge 2$ and all monomial Togliatti systems $I\subset k[x_0,x_1,x_2]$ of forms of degree $d\ge 6$ with $μ(I)=7$.
