Multiple solutions to asymptotically linear problems driven by superposition operators

In this paper, we investigate the existence and multiplicity of weak solutions to problems involving a superposition operator of the type $$\int_{[0, 1]}(- Δ)^s u d μ(s),$$ for a signed measure $μ$ on the interval of fractional exponents $[0,1]$, when the nonlinearity is subcritical and asymptotically linear at infinity; thus, we deal with a perturbation of the eigenvalue problem for the superposition operator. We use variational tools, extending to this setting well-known results for the classical and the fractional Laplace operators.

Lorentzian-Euclidean black holes and Lorentzian to Riemannian metric transitions

In recent papers on spacetimes with a signature-changing metric, the concept of a Lorentzian-Euclidean black hole and new elements for Lorentzian-Riemannian signature change have been introduced. A Lorentzian-Euclidean black hole is a signature-changing modification of the Schwarzschild spacetime satisfying the vacuum Einstein equations in a weak sense. Here the event horizon serves as a boundary beyond which time becomes imaginary. We demonstrate that the proper time needed to reach the horizon remains finite, consistently with the classical Schwarzschild solution. About Lorentzian to Riemannian metric transitions, we stress that the hypersurface where the metric signature changes is naturally a spacelike hypersurface which can be identified with the future or past causal boundary of the Lorentzian sector. Moreover, a number of geometric interpretations appear, as the degeneracy of the metric corresponds to the collapse of the causal cones into a line, the degeneracy of the dual metric corresponds to collapsing into a hyperplane, and additional geometric structures on the transition hypersurface (Galilean and dual Galilean) might be explored.

Asymptotically linear magnetic fractional problems

The aim of this paper is investigating the existence and multiplicity of weak solutions to non--local equations involving the {\em magnetic fractional Laplacian}, when the nonlinearity is subcritical and asymptotically linear at infinity. We prove existence and multiplicity results by using variational tools, extending to the magnetic local and non--local setting some known results for the classical and the fractional Laplace operators.

Spacelike graphs with prescribed mean curvature on exterior domains in the Minkowski spacetime

We consider a Dirichlet problem for the mean curvature operator in the Minkowski spacetime, obtaining a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a spacelike solution, with prescribed mean curvature, which is the graph of a function defined on a domain equal to the complement in $\mathbb R^n$ of the union of a finite number of bounded Lipschitz domains. The mean curvature $H=H(x,t)$ is assumed to have absolute value controlled from above by a locally bounded, $L^p$-function, $p\in [1,2n/(n+2)]$, $n\geq 3$.

Remarks on global geodesic properties of Gödel type spacetimes

The aim of this paper is to review and complete the study of geodesics on Gödel type spacetimes initiated in [8] and improved in [2] of the References. In particular, we prove some new results on geodesic connectedness and geodesic completeness for these spacetimes.

Normal geodesics connecting two non-necessarily spacelike submanifolds in a stationary spacetime

In this paper we obtain an existence theorem for normal geodesics joining two given submanifolds in a globally hyperbolic stationary spacetime. The proof is based on both variational and geometric arguments involving the causal structure of the spacetime, the completeness of suitable Finsler metrics associated to it and some basic properties of a submersion. By this interaction, unlike previous results on the topic, also non--spacelike submanifolds can be handled.

Convex domains of Finsler and Riemannian manifolds

A detailed study of the notions of convexity for a hypersurface in a Finsler manifold is carried out. In particular, the infinitesimal and local notions of convexity are shown to be equivalent. Our approach differs from Bishop's one in his classical result (Bishop, Indiana Univ Math J 24:169-172, 1974) for the Riemannian case. Ours not only can be extended to the Finsler setting but it also reduces the typical requirements of differentiability for the metric and it yields consequences on the multiplicity of connecting geodesics in the convex domain defined by the hypersurface.

Convexity of domains of Riemannian manifolds

In this paper we analyze the problem of the geodesic connectedness of subsets of Riemannian manifolds. By using variational methods, the geodesic connectedness of open domains (whose boundaries can be not differentiable and not convex) of a smooth Riemannian manifold is proved. In some cases also the convexity of the domain is obtained. Moreover we present examples of the applicability and of the independence of the assumptions. Finally we give an application to the existence of trajectories with fixed energy of dynamical systems.
