Gravitational lensing of gravitational waves: universal characteristics of strongly lensed memory waveforms

In this work, the strong lensing effect of the memory signal was considered. In the geometric optics limit, the lensed memory signal becomes oscillatory, while the unlensed is basically monotonic. This is because only the high frequency Fourier modes contribute strongly to the lensed signal. Due to the step function like behavior of the unlensed memory waveform, the lensed waveform possesses characteristic morphology that is dependent on the type of the image, but independent of the lens model and the binary system. That is, for each type of the lensed image, the lensed memory waveform has an approximate reflection symmetry about a symmetrical axis in the time domain. More specifically, for the type I and type III images, the lensed memory signals are nearly odd under the reflection, while the type II signal is roughly even. In addition, at the symmetrical axis, the sign of the slope for type I image is different from that for the type III image. These universal characteristic features would help determine the type of the lensed image. This is particularly because the memory waveform can be well approximated by a suitable step function, which involves just two parameters, the overall amplitude and the time of arrival. It is fast and cheap to simulate this approximated waveform. Once the type of the lensed image is determined with the approximated memory waveform, one can use the appropriate waveform template for the oscillatory component of the gravitational wave to perform the parameter estimation.

Motion-driven quantum dissipation in an open electronic system with nonlocal interaction

In this paper, we study excitations and dissipation in two infinite parallel metallic plates undergoing relative motion. The degrees of freedom of the electrons in both plates are modeled using the 1+2 dimensional Dirac field, and a nonlocal potential is selected to describe the interaction between the two plates. The internal relative motion is introduced via a Galilean boost, with one plate assumed to slide relative to the other. We then calculate the effective action of the system and derive the vacuum occupation number in momentum space using a perturbative method. Numerical plots reveal that the vacuum occupation number, as a function of momentum, is isotropic for a motion speed $v = 0$ and anisotropic for nonzero $v$. The relative motion induces energy transfer between the plates, leading to on-shell excitations in a manner analogous to the dissipative process of the Schwinger effect. Consequently, we study the motion-induced dissipation effects and the dissipative forces through the quantum action. Numerical results demonstrate that both the imaginary part of the quantum action due to the motion boost and the dissipative force exhibit a threshold as functions of $v$, and both are positively correlated with $v$.

The magnon mediated plasmon friction: a functional integral approach

In this paper, we discuss quantum friction in a system formed by two metallic surfaces separated by a ferromagnetic intermedium of a certain thickness. The internal degrees of freedom in the two metallic surfaces are assumed to be plasmons, while the excitations in the intermediate material are magnons, modeling plasmons coupled to magnons. During relative sliding, one surface moves uniformly parallel to the other, causing friction in the system. By calculating the effective action of the magnons, we can determine the particle production probability, which shows a positive correlation between the probability and the sliding speed. Finally, we derive the frictional force of the system, with both theoretical and numerical results indicating that the friction, like the particle production probability, also has a positive correlation with the speed.

Strong gravitational lensing of rotating regular black holes in non-minimally coupled Einstein-Yang-Mills theory

The strong gravitational lensing of a regular and rotating magnetic black hole in non-minimally coupled Einstein-Yang-Mills theory is studied. We find that, with the increase of any characteristic parameters of this black hole, such as the rotating parameter, magnetic charge and EYM parameter, the angular image position and relative magnification decrease while deflection angle and image separation increase. The results will degenerate to that of the Kerr case, R-N case with magnetic charge and Schwarzschild case when we take some specific values for the black hole parameters. The results also show that, due to the small influence of magnetic charge and Einstein-Yang-Mills parameters, it is difficult for current astronomical instruments to tell this black hole apart from a General Relativity one.

Emergent scenario in mimetic gravity

The emergent scenario provides a possible way to avoid the big bang singularity by assuming that the universe originates from an Einstein static state. Therefore, an Einstein static universe stable under perturbations is crucial to a successful implementation of the emergent mechanism. In this paper, we analyze the stability of the Einstein static universe against the scalar perturbations in the mimetic theory and find that stable Einstein static solutions exist under certain conditions in this theory. In the original mimetic gravity, the Einstein static universe is unstable. Then, we find that the universe can naturally exit from the initial static state, evolve into an inflationary era and then exit from the inflationary era. Thus, the emergent scenario can be used to resolve the big bang singularity in the mimetic theory.

Strong gravitational lensing for the charged black holes with scalar hair

The strong gravitational lensing for charged black holes with scalar hair in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton theory are studied. We find, with the increase of scalar hair, that the radius of the photon sphere, minimum impact parameter, angular image position and relative magnitude increase, while the deflection angle and angular image separation decrease. Our results can be reduced to those of the Schwarzschild black hole in two cases, one of them is that the scalar hair disappears, the other is that the coupling constants take particular values with arbitrary scalar hair.

Strong gravitational lensing for black hole with scalar charge in massive gravity

We investigate the strong gravitational lensing for black hole with scalar charge in massive gravity. We find that the scalar charge and the type of the black hole significantly affect the radius of the photon sphere, deflection angle, angular image position, angular image separation, relative magnifications and time delay in strong gravitational lensing. Our results can be reduced to that of the Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m black holes in some special cases.

Geodesic structure of Janis-Newman-Winicour space-time

In the present paper we study the geodesic structure of the Janis-Newman-Winicour(JNW) space-time which contains a strong curvature naked singularity. This metric is an extension of the Schwarzschild geometry when a massless scalar field is included. We find that the strength parameter $μ$ of the scalar field effects on the geodesic structure of the JNW space-time. By solving the geodesic equation and analyzing the behavior of effective potential, we investigate all geodesic types of the test particle and the photon in the JNW space-time. At the same time we simulate all the geodesic orbits corresponding to the energy levels of the effective potential in the JNW space-time.
