Multiplication Operators on the Lipschitz Space of an Infinite Graph

The Lipschitz space of an infinite (locally-finite) graph is defined as the set of functions on the vertices of the graph such that the differences of the values between adjacent vertices remain bounded. In this paper we prove that this set is a Banach space when endowed with its natural norm, and we define the little Lipschitz space as the subspace where these differences tend to zero. We consider the multiplication operators on these spaces and characterize their boundedness, compactness and the spectra. We also obtain estimates of the norm and essential norm, and we characterize when these operators are isometric.

Composition Operators on the Little Lipschitz space of a rooted tree

In this work, we study the composition operators on the little Lipschitz space ${\mathcal L}_0$ of a rooted tree $T$, defined as the subspace of the Lipschitz space ${\mathcal L}$ consisting of the complex-valued functions $f$ on $T$ such that $$\lim_{|v|\to\infty}|f(v)-f(v^-)|=0,$$ where $v^-$ is the vertex adjacent to the vertex $v$ in the path from the root to $v$ and $|v|$ denotes the number of edges from the root to $v$. Specifically, we give a complete characterization of the self-maps $ϕ$ of $T$ for which the composition operator $C_ϕ$ is bounded and we estimate its operator norm. In addition, we study the spectrum of $C_ϕ$ and the hypercyclicity of the operators $λC_ϕ$ for $λ\in {\mathbb C}$.

The numerical range of periodic banded Toeplitz operators

We prove that the closure of the numerical range of a $(n+1)$-periodic and $(2m+1)$-banded Toeplitz operator can be expressed as the closure of the convex hull of the uncountable union of numerical ranges of certain symbol matrices. In contrast to the periodic $3$-banded (or tridiagonal) case, we show an example of a $2$-periodic and $5$-banded Toeplitz operator such that the closure of its numerical range is not equal to the numerical range of a single finite matrix.

Matrices similar to centrosymmetric matrices

In this paper we give conditions on a matrix which guarantee that it is similar to a centrosymmetric matrix. We use this conditions to show that some $4 \times 4$ and $6 \times 6$ Toeplitz matrices are similar to centrosymmetric matrices. Furthermore, we give conditions for a matrix to be similar to a matrix which has a centrosymmetric principal submatrix, and conditions under which a matrix can be dilated to a matrix similar to a centrosymmetric matrix.

Hypercyclicity of composition operators on discrete weighted Banach spaces

In this paper, we study the hypercyclic composition operators on weighted Banach spaces of functions defined on discrete metric spaces. We show that the only such composition operators act on the "little" spaces. We characterize the bounded composition operators on the little spaces, as well as provide various necessary conditions for hypercyclicity.

The numerical range of some periodic tridiagonal operators is the convex hull of the numerical ranges of two finite matrices

In this paper we prove a conjecture stated by the first two authors establishing the closure of the numerical range of a certain class of $n+1$-periodic tridiagonal operators as the convex hull of the numerical ranges of two tridiagonal $(n+1) \times (n+1)$ matrices. Furthermore, when $n+1$ is odd, we show that the size of such matrices simplifies to $\frac{n}{2}+1$.

Norms, Kernels and Eigenvalues of some Infinite Graphs

In these paper we study the adjacency matrix of some infinite graphs, which we call the shift operator on the $L^p$ space of the graph. In particular, we establish norm estimates, we find the norm for some cases, we decide the triviality of the kernel of some infinite trees, and we find the eigenvalues of certain infinite graphs obtained by attaching an infinite tail to some finite graphs.

The forward and backward shift on the Lipschitz space of a tree

We initiate the study of the forward and backward shifts on the Lipschitz space of a tree, $\mathcal L$, and on the little Lipshitz space of a tree, ${\mathcal L}_0$. We determine that the forward shift is bounded both on $\mathcal L$ and on ${\mathcal L}_0$ and, when the tree is leafless, it is an isometry; we also calculate its spectrum. For the backward shift, we determine when it is bounded on $\mathcal L$ and on ${\mathcal L}_0$, we find the norm when the tree is homogeneous, we calculate the spectrum for the case when the tree is homogeneous, and we determine, for a general tree, when it is hypercyclic.

The numerical range of a class of periodic tridiagonal operators

In this paper we compute the closure of the numerical range of certain periodic tridiagonal operators. This is achieved by showing that the closure of the numerical range of such operators can be expressed as the closure of the convex hull of the uncountable union of numerical ranges of certain symbol matrices. For a special case, this result can be improved so that it is the convex hull of the union of the numerical ranges of only two matrices. A conjecture is stated for the general case.

Inner Products on the Space of Complex Square Matrices

In this paper we study the problem of finding explicit expressions for inner products on the space of complex square matrices $\Mn$. We show that, given an inner product $\lip \cdot, \cdot \rip$ on $\Mn$, with some conditions, there exist positive matrices $A_j$ and $B_j \in \Mn$, for $j=1, 2\dots, m$ such that $$ \lip X, Y \rip = \sum_{j=1}^m \tr\left(Y^* A_j X B_j \right), $$ for all $X, Y \in \Mn$. However, we show that the result does not hold for all inner products. In fact, if the above expression does not hold, we show that there exist positive matrices $A_j$ and $B_j \in \Mn$, for $j=1, 2\dots, m$ such that $$ \lip X, Y \rip = -\tr\left(Y^* A_1 X B_1 \right)+ \sum_{j=2}^m \tr\left(Y^* A_j X B_j \right), $$ for all $X, Y \in \Mn$.
