An Ultrahigh-Q Microresonator on 4H-silicon-carbide-on-insulator Platform for Multiple Harmonics, Cascaded Raman Lasing and Kerr Comb Generations

The realization of ultrahigh quality (Q) resonators regardless of the underpinning material platforms has been a ceaseless pursuit, because the high Q resonators provide an extreme environment of storage of light to enable observations of many unconventional nonlinear optical phenomenon with high efficiencies. Here, we demonstrate an ultra-high Q factor (7.1*10^6) microresonator on the 4H-silicon-carbide-on-insulator (4H-SiCOI) platform in which both \c{hi}^(2) and \c{hi}^(3) nonlinear processes of high efficiencies have been generated. Broadband frequency conversions, including second-, third-, fourth-harmonic generation were observed. Cascaded Raman lasing was demonstrated in the SiC microresonator for the first time to the best of our knowledge. Broadband Kerr frequency combs covering from 1300 to 1700 nm were achieved using a dispersion-engineered SiC microresonator. Our demonstration is a significant milestone in the development of SiC photonic integrated devices.

Compound plasmonic vortex generation based on spiral nanoslits

In view of wide applications of structured light fields and plasmonic vortices, we propose the concept of compound plasmonic vortex and design several structured plasmonic vortex generators. This kind of structured plasmonic vortex generators consists of multiple spiral nanoslits and they can generate two or more concentric plasmonic vortices. Different from Laguerre-Gaussian beam, the topological charge of the plasmonic vortex in different region is different. Theoretical analysis lays the basis for the design of radially structured plasmonic vortex generators and numerical simulations for several examples confirm the effectiveness of the design principle. The discussions about the interference of vortex fields definite the generation condition for the structured vortex. This work provides a design methodology for generating new vortices using spiral nanoslits and the advanced radially structured plasmonic vortices is helpful for broadening the applications of vortex fields.

FGN: Fusion Glyph Network for Chinese Named Entity Recognition

Chinese NER is a challenging task. As pictographs, Chinese characters contain latent glyph information, which is often overlooked. In this paper, we propose the FGN, Fusion Glyph Network for Chinese NER. Except for adding glyph information, this method may also add extra interactive information with the fusion mechanism. The major innovations of FGN include: (1) a novel CNN structure called CGS-CNN is proposed to capture both glyph information and interactive information between glyphs from neighboring characters. (2) we provide a method with sliding window and Slice-Attention to fuse the BERT representation and glyph representation for a character, which may capture potential interactive knowledge between context and glyph. Experiments are conducted on four NER datasets, showing that FGN with LSTM-CRF as tagger achieves new state-of-the-arts performance for Chinese NER. Further, more experiments are conducted to investigate the influences of various components and settings in FGN.
