Numerical Solution for a Class of Evolution Differential Equations with $p$-Laplacian and Memory

In this paper we make a study of a partial integral differential equation with $p$-Laplacian using a mixed finite element method. Two stable and convergent fixed point schemes are proposed to solve the nonlinear algebraic system. Using the implementation of the method in Matlab environment, we numerically analyse the convergence with an example. Some other examples are presented in order to illustrate several asymptotic behaviours and some localization effects of the solutions.

A Mixed Finite Element Method for a Class of Evolution Differential Equations with $p$-Laplacian and Memory

We present a new mixed finite element method for a class of parabolic equations with $p$-Laplacian and nonlinear memory. The applicability, stability and convergence of the method are studied. First, the problem is written in a mixed formulation as a system of one parabolic equation and a Volterra equation. Then, the system is discretized in the space variable using the finite element method with Lagrangian basis of degree $r\geq1$. Finally, the Cranck-Nicolson method with the trapezoidal quadrature is applied to discretize the time variable. For each method, we establish existence, uniqueness and regularity of the solutions. The convergence order is found to be dependent on the parameter $p$ on the $p$-Laplacian in the sense that it decreases as $p$ increases.

Mixed finite element method for a beam equation with the p-biharmonic operator

In this paper, we consider a nonlinear beam equation with the p-biharmonic operator, where $1 < p < \infty$. Using a change of variable, we transform the problem into a system of differential equations and prove the existence, uniqueness and regularity of the weak solution by applying the Lax-Milgram theorem and classical results of functional analysis. We investigate the discrete formulation for that system and, with the aid of the Brouwer theorem, we show that the problem has a discrete solution. The uniqueness and stability of the discrete solution are obtained through classical methods. After establishing the order of convergence, we apply the mixed finite element method to obtain an algebraic system of equations. Finally, we implement the computational codes in Matlab software and perform the comparison between theory and simulations.

Viscosity solution of a Delta Greek nonlinear Black-Scholes equation

In this paper, a class of nonlinear option pricing models involving transaction costs is considered. The diffusion coefficient of the nonlinear parabolic equation for the price $V$ is assumed to be a linear function of the option's underlying asset price and the Gamma Greek $V_{xx}$. The main aim of this work is to study the governing PDE of the Delta Greek. The existence of viscosity solutions is proved using the vanishing viscosity method. Regularizing the equation by adding a small perturbation to the initial problem, a sequence of approximate solutions $u^{\varepsilon}$ is constructed and then the method of weak limits is applied to prove the convergence of the sequence to the viscosity solution of the Delta equation. The approximate problems constructed are shown to have good regularity, which allows the use of efficient and robust numerical methods.

Finite element schemes for a class of nonlocal parabolic systems with moving boundaries

The aim of this paper is to establish convergence, properties and error bounds for the fully discrete solutions of a class of nonlinear systems of reaction-diffusion nonlocal type with moving boundaries, using the finite element method with polynomial approximations of any degree. A coordinate transformation which fixes the boundaries is used. Some numerical tests to compare our Matlab code with a moving finite element method are investigated.

On the finite element method for a nonlocal degenerate parabolic problem

The aim of this paper is the numerical study of a class of nonlinear nonlocal degenerate parabolic equations. The convergence and error bounds of the solutions are proved for a linearized Crank-Nicolson-Galerkin finite element method with polynomial approximations of degree $k\geq 1$. Some explicit solutions are obtained and used to test the implementation of the method in Matlab environment.

On a nonlocal degenerate parabolic problem

Conditions for the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions for a class of nonlinear nonlocal degenerate parabolic equations are established. The asymptotic behaviour of the solutions as time tends to infinity are also studied. In particular, the finite time extinction and polynomial decay properties are proved.

Convergence of the Crank-Nicolson-Galerkin finite element method for a class of nonlocal parabolic systems with moving boundaries

The aim of this paper is to establish the convergence and error bounds to the fully discrete solution for a class of nonlinear systems of reaction-diffusion nonlocal type with moving boundaries, using a linearized Crank-Nicolson-Galerkin finite element method with polynomial approximations of any degree. A coordinate transformation which fixes the boundaries is used. Some numerical tests to compare our Matlab code with some existing moving finite elements methods are investigated.
