Game Theory Analysis of Third-Party Regulation in Organic Supply Chains

As awareness of health and environmental issues grows, the demand for organic food is rising worldwide, yet consumers still struggle to distinguish genuine organic products from conventional ones. This information asymmetry creates incentives for some producers to mislabel conventional goods as organic in order to charge higher prices, threatening market integrity and trust. This paper develops a game-theoretic model of interactions among producers, consumers, and regulators in organic supply chains to study when fraud emerges and how it can be deterred. By analyzing extensive-form and repeated games with monitoring and penalties, we identify conditions under which honest labeling becomes a stable equilibrium and show how inspection frequency and reputation losses shape strategic behavior. Our results highlight the critical role of a neutral third party in overcoming information asymmetries and sustaining trust in organic markets. Government regulation and independent certification, combined with credible monitoring and meaningful penalties, discourage mislabeling, and support the sustainable growth of the organic food supply chain.

Scalable spin-photon entanglement by time-to-polarization conversion

Spin-photon interfaces are strong candidates for building blocks of future quantum networks and quantum computers. Several systems currently under examination present promising features, but none of them yet fulfil all requirements for these aims. A particularly attractive strategy for the realization of these applications is the creation of strings of entangled photons, where quantum correlations among the photons are mediated by operations on the spin of the emitter. Here, we demonstrate for the first time the creation of spin-photon entanglement within the fundamental unit of a novel, scalable protocol based on time-to-polarization conversion. This principle allows us to bypass many of the imperfections of currently available photon sources and can therefore be utilized with a large variety of emitters. We execute the protocol using a nitrogen-vacancy centre in diamond, which possesses a long coherence lifetime and multiple spin degrees of freedom, thereby offering an outlook towards the creation of large entangled states.

Demonstrating an element of measurement-based quantum error correction

In measurement-based quantum computing an algorithm is performed by measurements on highly-entangled resource states. To date, several implementations were demonstrated, all of them assuming perfect noise-free environments. Here we consider measurement-based information processing in the presence of noise and demonstrate quantum error detection. We implement the protocol using a four-qubit photonic cluster state, where we first encode a general qubit non-locally such that phase errors can be detected. We then read out the error syndrome and analyze the output states after decoding. Our demonstration shows a building block for measurement-based quantum computing which is crucial for realistic scenarios.
