Giant mode splitting of azimuthal spin waves in radial vortices

Radial vortex is a topological spin texture stabilized by the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) in ferromagnetic disks. Previous investigations have shown that the doublet splitting of azimuthal modes in traditional circular vortices arises from the coupling between azimuthal spin waves and vortex core (VC), an effect occurs only for azimuthal indices $m=\pm1$ and is absent for higher-order modes. Here, we present a giant mode splitting of azimuthal spin waves in radial vortices, even in the absence of the VC. This mode splitting arises from the DMI, which can be an order of magnitude larger than that induced by the VC. Moreover, the DMI-induced frequency splitting increases with both the DMI constant and mode index, reaching tens of GHz for higher-order azimuthal modes. Our results reveal a robust mechanism for mode splitting in chiral magnetic textures and deepen the fundamental understanding of the DMI effect on the spin-wave dynamics in confined magnets.

Spatiotemporal Magnonic Vortex Beams with Alternating Transverse Orbital Angular Momentum

Recent theoretical and experimental advances have demonstrated spatiotemporal photonic and acoustic vortex beams in free space. Such spatiotemporal vortex beams possess orbital angular momentum oriented perpendicular to the wave propagation direction. Herein, we report the discovery of spatiotemporal magnonic vortex beams in a confined ferromagnetic nanostrip geometry. The spatiotemporal magnonic vortex beam features stationary phase dislocations and exhibits wave propagation along a zigzag-like trajectory. Notably, the transverse orbital angular momentum carried by these phase dislocations displays spatial alternation. Our results differ distinctly from their photonic and acoustic counterparts, offering new insights into the fundamental research of spatiotemporal vortex beams.

The central limit theorem for slow-fast systems with Lévy noise

We consider a slow-fast stochastic differential system with Lévy noise. We will employ the perturbed test function method to study the normal deviation of the slow-fast system. Our main result states that the deviation can be approximated by a Gaussian process and the central limit theorem is obtained for the system.

Eigenmodes of twisted spin-waves in a thick ferromagnetic nanodisk

Magnetic vortex is topologically nontrivial and commonly found in ferromagnetic nanodisks. So far, three classes spin-wave eigenmodes, i.e., gyrotropic, azimuthal and radial modes, have been identified in ferromagnetic nanodisks. Here, using micromagnetic simulation and analytical calculation, we reveal twisted spin-wave modes in a thick permalloy (Ni0.8Fe0.2) nanodisk. The twisted spin-waves carry topological charges, which sign depends on the core polarity of the magnetic vortex in the nanodisk. By applying rotating magnetic fields at one end of the sample, we observe continuous generation of twisted spin-waves that have characteristic spiral phase front and carry topological charge l = 1, -1, 2 and -2. The dispersion relation of twisted spin-waves is derived analytically and the result is in good agreement with micromagnetic numerical calculations.

Averaging principle of stochastic Burgers equation driven by Lévy processes

We are concerned about the averaging principle for the stochastic Burgers equation with slow-fast time scale. This slow-fast system is driven by Lévy processes. Under some appropriate conditions, we show that the slow component of this system strongly converges to a limit, which is characterized by the solution of stochastic Burgers equation whose coefficients are averaged with respect to the stationary measure of the fast-varying jump-diffusion. To illustrate our theoretical result, we provide some numerical simulations.

Resonant excitation of twisted spin waves in magnetic vortices using rotating magnetic fields

Twisted spin waves attracted research attentions lately and the orbital angular momentum they carry may be utilized in communication and computing technologies. In this work, we manifest by micromagnetic simulations that twisted spin wave modes naturally exist in thick ferromagnetic disks. The twisted spin waves can be readily stimulated using rotating magnetic field when it is tuned to the eigenfrequency of corresponding modes. We analytically derive dispersion relation of the twisted spin waves and the results agree well with the numerical studies. Lastly, we demonstrate that the topological charge of twisted spin waves can be controlled by the exciting field.

Stochastic averaging for the non-autonomous mixed stochastic differential equations with locally Lipschitz coefficients

This paper investigates a non-autonomous slow-fast system, which is generalized by stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with locally Lipschitz coefficients, subjected to standard Brownian motion (Bm) and fractional Brownian motion (fBm) with Hurst parameter 1/2<H<1. We concentrate on how to handle both types of integrals with respect to Bm and fBm and the locally Lispchitz continuity. The pathwise approach and the Ito stochastic calculus are combined with the technique of stopping time to establish the averaging principle where the averaged equation is defined. Then, the slow component of the original slow-fast system converges to the solution of the proposed averaged equation in the mean square sense is verified.

Spin-wave focusing induced skyrmion generation

We propose a new method to generate magnetic skyrmions through spin-wave focusing in chiral ferromagnets.A lens is constructed to focus spin waves by a curved interface between two ferromagnetic thin films with different perpendicular magnetic anisotropies. Based on the principle of identical magnonic path length, we derive the lens contour that can be either elliptical or hyperbolical depending on the magnon refractive index. Micromagnetic simulations are performed to verify the theoretical design. It is found that under proper condition magnetic skyrmions emerge near the focus point of the lens where the spin-wave intensity has been significantly enhanced. A close investigation shows that a magnetic droplet first forms and then converts to the skyrmion accompanying with a change of topological charge. Phase diagram about the amplitude and duration-time of the exciting field for skyrmion generation is obtained. Our findings would be helpful for designing novel spintronic devices combining the advantages of skyrmionics and magnonics.

Strong averaging principles for a class of non-autonomous slow-fast systems of SPDEs with polynomial growth

In this work, we study a class of non-autonomous two-time-scale stochastic reaction-diffusion equations driven by Poisson random measures, in which the coefficients satisfy the polynomial growth condition and local Lipschitz condition. First, the existence and uniqueness of the mild solution are proved by constructing auxiliary equations and using the technique of stopping time. Then, consider that the time dependent of the coefficients, the averaged equation is redefined by studying the existence of time-dependent evolution family of measures associated with the frozen fast equation. Further, the slow component strongly converges to the solution of the corresponding averaged equation is verified by using the classical Khasminskii method.

Averaging principles for non-autonomous two-time-scale stochastic reaction-diffusion equations with jump

In this paper, we aim to develop the averaging principle for a slow-fast system of stochastic reaction-diffusion equations driven by Poisson random measures. The coefficients of the equation are assumed to be functions of time, and some of them are periodic or almost periodic. Therefore, the Poisson term needs to be processed, and a new averaged equation needs to be given. For this reason, the existence of time-dependent evolution family of measures associated with the fast equation is studied, and proved that it is almost periodic. Next, according to the characteristics of almost periodic functions, the averaged coefficient is defined by the evolution family of measures, and the averaged equation is given. Finally, the validity of the averaging principle is verified by using the Khasminskii method.

Effect of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction on magnetic vortex switching driven by radial spin waves

We theoretically investigate the radial-spin-wave induced magnetic vortex switching in the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). From micromagnetic simulations, we observe a circular-to-radial vortex phase transition by increasing the DMI strength. The radial spin-wave excitation spectrum for each magnetization configuration is analyzed, showing that the frequency of spin-wave mode with a given radial node number monotonically increases (decreases) with the DMI parameter of the radial (circular) vortex. Interestingly, we find that the DMI can significantly facilitate the polarity switching of the circular vortex driven by radial spin waves. Our work provides a new insight into the DMI effect on the vortex dynamics and is helpful for designing fast all-magnonic memory devices.

Averaging principles for non-autonomous two-time-scale stochastic reaction-diffusion equations with polynomial growth

In this paper, we develop the averaging principle for a class of two-time-scale stochastic reaction-diffusion equations driven by Wiener processes and Poisson random measures. We assume that all coefficients of the equation have polynomial growth, and the drift term of the equation is non-Lipschitz. Hence, the classical formulation of the averaging principle under the Lipschitz condition is no longer available. To prove the validity of the averaging principle, the existence and uniqueness of the mild solution are proved firstly. Then, the existence of time-dependent evolution family of measures associated with the fast equation is studied, by which the averaged coefficient is obtained. Finally, the validity of the averaging principle is verified.

Spin dynamics of anisotropic azimuthal modes in heterogeneous magnetic nanodisks

It is well known that azimuthal spin wave modes of magnetic vortex state in permalloy nanodisks have circular symmetry. Intuitively, magnetic materials having magnetocrystalline anisotropy is not compatible with the circular symmetry of the azimuthal modes. In this article, however, we report cubic azimuthal modes in heterogeneous nanodisks consisting of a permalloy core and a Fe shell. The fourfold symmetry of azimuthal modes is due to the exchange, and magneto-static, interactions between the permalloy core and the Fe shell. In comparison to results of circular azimuthal mode, the vortex switching occurs considerably faster under the excitation of cubic azimuthal mode. The gyration path of vortex core turns into square under the influence of induced cubic anisotropy in the Py region. We find out periodic oscillation of the vortex core size and the gyration speed as well. Our findings may offer a new route for spintronic applications using heterogeneous magnetic nanostructures.

Unusual spin-wave dynamics in core-shell magnetic nanodisks

We investigated the spin dynamics of a vortex state in a core-shell magnetic nanodisk driven by an oscillating field applied perpendicular to the disk plane by means of micromagnetic simulations. The nanodisk comprises a Py (Fe0.2Ni0.8) core of 100 nm in radius, surrounded by a 50 nm thick Fe shell. Fourier transform analyses show that the Py core and the Fe shell dominate spin-wave oscillation at the fundamental and higher order radial modes, respectively. For oscillating driving field tuned to the fundamental eigenfrequency, the Py/Fe interface effectively confines spin-wave excitation in the Py core region. This effect leads to significantly more rapid vortex core (VC) reversal in comparison to homogeneous disks. Our work demonstrates that the higher order modes can drive much faster VC reversal than the fundamental mode, in sharp contrast to the results obtained in homogeneous disks. With excitation levels up to 30 mT, we find strong nonlinear spin-wave dynamics in the system, which results in mode frequency redshifting, therefore the observation of the most rapid VC reversals below eigenfrequencies and VC switching in wide ranges of frequencies.

Resonance Beyond Frequency-Matching

Resonance, defined as the oscillation of a system when the temporal frequency of an external stimulus matches a natural frequency of the system, is important in both fundamental physics and applied disciplines. However, the spatial character of oscillation is not considered in the definition of resonance. In this work, we reveal the creation of spatial resonance when the stimulus matches the space pattern of a normal mode in an oscillating system. The complete resonance, which we call multidimensional resonance, is a combination of both the spatial and the conventionally defined (temporal) resonance and can be several orders of magnitude stronger than the temporal resonance alone. We further elucidate that the spin wave produced by multidimensional resonance drives considerably faster reversal of the vortex core in a magnetic nanodisk. Our findings provide insight into the nature of wave dynamics and open the door to novel applications.
