Hyperbolic equations with fifth-order symmetries

This paper examines the classification of hyperbolic equations. We study a class of equations of the form $$\frac{\partial^2 u}{\partial x\partial y}=F\left(\frac{\partial u}{\partial x},\frac{\partial u}{\partial y},u\right),$$ where $u(x,y)$ is the unknown function and $x,y$ are independent variables. The classification is based on the requirement for the existence of higher fifth-order symmetries. As a result, a list of four equations with the required conditions was obtained.

On a class of exact solutions of the Ishimori equation

In this paper, a class of particular solutions of the Ishimori equation is found. This equation is known as the spatially two-dimensional version of the Heisenberg equation, which has important applications in the theory of ferromagnets. It is shown that the two-dimensional Toda-type lattice found earlier by Ferapontov, Shabat and Yamilov is a dressing chain for this equation. Using the integrable reductions of the dressing chain, the authors found an essentially new class of solutions to the Ishimori equation.

Generalized symmetries and integrability conditions for hyperbolic type semi-discrete equations

In the article differential-difference (semi-discrete) lattices of hyperbolic type are investigated from the integrability viewpoint. More precisely we concentrate on a method for constructing generalized symmetries. This kind integrable lattices admit two hierarchies of generalized symmetries corresponding to the discrete and continuous independent variables $n$ and $x$. Symmetries corresponding to the direction of $n$ are constructed in a more or less standard way while when constructing symmetries of the other form we meet a problem of solving a functional equation. We have shown that to handle with this equation one can effectively use the concept of characteristic Lie-Rinehart algebras of semi-discrete models. Based on this observation, we have proposed a classification method for integrable semi-discrete lattices. One of the interesting results of this work is a new example of an integrable equation, which is a semi-discrete analogue of the Tzizeica equation. Such examples were not previously known.

Integrable Modifications of the Ito-Narita-Bogoyavlensky Equation

We consider five-point differential-difference equations. Our aim is to find integrable modifications of the Ito-Narita-Bogoyavlensky equation related to it by non-invertible discrete transformations. We enumerate all modifications associated to transformations of the first, second and third orders. As far as we know, such a classification problem is solved for the first time in the discrete case. We analyze transformations obtained to specify their nature. A number of new integrable five-point equations and new transformations have been found. Moreover, we have derived one new completely discrete equation. There are a few non-standard transformations which are of the Miura type or are linearizable in a non-standard way. We have also proved that the orders of possible transformations are restricted by the number five in this problem.

Peculiar symmetry structure of some known discrete nonautonomous equations

We study the generalized symmetry structure of three known discrete nonautonomous equations. One of them is the semidiscrete dressing chain of Shabat. Two others are completely discrete equations defined on the square lattice. The first one is a discrete analogue of the dressing chain introduced by Levi and Yamilov. The second one is a nonautonomous generalization of the potential discrete KdV equation or, in other words, the H1 equation of the well-known Adler-Bobenko-Suris list. We demonstrate that these equations have generalized symmetries in both directions if and only if their coefficients, depending on the discrete variables, are periodic. The order of the simplest generalized symmetry in at least one direction depends on the period and may be arbitrarily high. We substantiate this picture by some theorems in the case of small periods. In case of an arbitrarily large period, we show that it is possible to construct two hierarchies of generalized symmetries and conservation laws. The same picture should take place in case of any nonautonomous equation of the Adler-Bobenko-Suris list.

Generalized symmetry classification of discrete equations of a class depending on twelve parameters

We carry out the generalized symmetry classification of polylinear autonomous discrete equations defined on the square, which belong to a twelve-parametric class. The direct result of this classification is a list of equations containing no new examples. However, as an indirect result of this work we find a number of integrable examples pretending to be new. One of them has a nonstandard symmetry structure, the others are analogues of the Liouville equation in the sense that those are Darboux integrable. We also enumerate all equations of the class, which are linearizable via a two-point first integral, and specify the nature of integrability of some known equations.

Affine Lie algebras, Lax pairs and integrable discrete and continuous systems

A consistent set of six integrable discrete and continuous dynamical systems are suggested corresponding to arbitrary affine Lie algebra. The set contains a system of partial differential equations which can be treated as a version of generalized Toda lattice while semi-discrete systems in the set define the Backlund transform for this Toda lattice and the fully discrete representative of the set can be obtained as a superposition of such kind Backlund transforms. Four linear Zakharov-Shabat type systems taken pairwise realize Lax pairs for these six dynamical systems.

Method for searching higher symmetries for quad graph equations

Generalized symmetry integrability test for discrete equations on the square lattice is studied. Integrability conditions are discussed. A method for searching higher symmetries (including non-autonomous ones) for quad graph equations is suggested based on characteristic vector fields.
