A proximal linearized NEP method for composite optimization with conic and manifold constraints

This paper studies DC composite optimization problems with simultaneous conic and manifold constraints. We propose an inexact proximal linearized exact penalty algorithm based on a distance-based penalty function for the conic constraint. The algorithm successively computes approximate minimizers of proximal linearizations of the penalty function over the tangent spaces of the manifold under a readily verifiable inexactness criterion, with adaptive updates of the proximal and penalty parameters. Under the boundedness assumption on the sequences of iterates and penalty parameters, we establish an $O(ε^{-2})$ worst-case complexity bound for finding an $ε$-stationary point. Moreover, when semi-proximal ADMM is employed to solve the subproblems, the resulting oracle complexity is $O(ε^{-2}\logε^{-1})$ provided that the distance function and the first DC component are piecewise linear-quadratic, while an accelerated variant achieves an $O(ε^{-4})$ oracle complexity. If, in addition, the associated potential function satisfies the KL property, the whole sequence of iterates converges to a stationary point. Extensive numerical experiments on composite optimization problems with orthogonal manifold, nonnegative cone, and second-order cone (SOC) constraints demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

An inexact variable metric proximal linearization method for composite optimization on manifolds

This paper concerns the minimization of the composition of a nonsmooth convex function and a $\mathcal{C}^{1,1}$ mapping $F$ over a $\mathcal{C}^2$-smooth embedded closed submanifold $\mathcal{M}$. For this class of nonconvex and nonsmooth problems, we propose an inexact variable metric proximal linearization method by leveraging its composite structure and the retraction and first-order information of $\mathcal{M}$, which at each iteration seeks an inexact solution to a subspace constrained strongly convex problem by a practical inexactness criterion. Under the boundedness assumption on the iterate sequence, we establish the $O(ε^{-3})$ oracle complexity with a dual fast gradient method as the inner solver, and prove that any cluster point of the iterate sequence is a stationary point. If in addition the constructed potential function has the Kurdyka-Lojasiewicz (KL) property on the set of cluster points, the iterate sequence converges to a stationary point, and if the potential function has the KL property of exponent $q\in[\frac{1}{2},1)$, the local convergence rate is characterized. We also provide a condition only involving the original data to identify the KL property of the potential function with an exponent $q\in[0,1)$. Numerical comparisons with the existing methods validate the efficiency of the proposed method.

Feature-driven reinforcement learning for photovoltaic in continuous intraday trading

Sequential intraday electricity trading allows photovoltaic (PV) operators to reduce imbalance settlement costs as forecasts improve throughout the day. Yet deployable trading policies must jointly handle forecast uncertainty, intraday prices, liquidity, and the asymmetric economics of PV imbalance exposure. This paper proposes a feature-driven reinforcement learning (FDRL) framework for intraday PV trading in the Nordic market. Its main methodological contribution is a corrected reward that evaluates performance relative to a no-trade baseline, removing policy-independent noise that can otherwise push reinforcement learning toward inactive policies in high-price regimes. The framework combines this objective with a predominantly linear policy and a closed-form execution surrogate for efficient, interpretable training. In a strict walk-forward evaluation over 2021-2024 across four Nordic bidding zones (DK1, DK2, SE3, SE4), the method delivers statistically significant profit improvements over the spot-only baseline in every zone. Portfolio experiments show that a pooled cross-zone policy can match zone-specific models, while transfer-learning results indicate a two-cluster market structure and effective deployment in new zones with limited local data. The proposed framework offers an interpretable and computationally practical way to reduce imbalance costs, while the transfer results provide guidance for scaling strategies across bidding zones with different market designs.

Structure-Dependent Regret and Constraint Violation Bounds for Online Convex Optimization with Time-Varying Constraints

Online convex optimization (OCO) with time-varying constraints is a critical framework for sequential decision-making in dynamic networked systems, where learners must minimize cumulative loss while satisfying regions of feasibility that shift across rounds. Existing theoretical analyses typically treat constraint variation as a monolithic adversarial process, resulting in joint regret and violation bounds that are overly conservative for real-world network dynamics. In this paper, we introduce a structured characterization of constraint variation - smooth drift, periodic cycles, and sparse switching - mapping these classes to common network phenomena such as slow channel fading, diurnal traffic patterns, and discrete maintenance windows. We derive structure-dependent joint bounds that strictly improve upon adversarial rates when the constraint process exhibits regularity. To realize these gains, we propose the Structure-Adaptive Primal-Dual (SA-PD) algorithm, which utilizes observable constraint signals to detect environmental structure online and adapt dual update strategies accordingly. Extensive experiments on synthetic benchmarks and real-world datasets - including online electricity scheduling and transformer load management - demonstrate that SA-PD reduces cumulative constraint violation by up to 53% relative to structure-agnostic baselines while maintaining competitive utility. This work serves as a comprehensive guide for exploiting temporal regularity in constrained online learning for robust network engineering.

Convergence analysis of inexact MBA method for constrained upper-$\mathcal{C}^2$ optimization problems

This paper concerns a class of constrained optimization problems in which, the objective and constraint functions are both upper-$\mathcal{C}^2$. For such nonconvex and nonsmooth optimization problems, we develop an inexact moving balls approximation (MBA) method by a workable inexactness criterion for the solving of subproblems. By leveraging a global error bound for the strongly convex program associated with parametric optimization problems, we establish the full convergence of the iterate sequence under the partial bounded multiplier property (BMP) and the Kurdyka-Łojasiewicz (KL) property of the constructed potential function, and achieve the local convergence rate of the iterate and objective value sequences if the potential function satisfies the KL property of exponent $q\in[1/2,1)$. A verifiable condition is also provided to check whether the potential function satisfies the KL property of exponent $q\in[1/2,1)$ at the given critical point. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first implementable inexact MBA method with a full convergence certificate for the constrained nonconvex and nonsmooth optimization problem.

An inexact LPA for DC composite optimization and application to matrix completions with outliers

This paper concerns a class of DC composite optimization problems which, as an extension of convex composite optimization problems and DC programs with nonsmooth components, often arises in robust factorization models of low-rank matrix recovery. For this class of nonconvex and nonsmooth problems, we propose an inexact linearized proximal algorithm (iLPA) by computing at each step an inexact minimizer of a strongly convex majorization constructed with a partial linearization of their objective functions at the current iterate. We establish the full convergence of the generated iterate sequence under the Kurdyka-Łöjasiewicz (KL) property of a potential function, and employ the composite structure to provide a verifiable condition for the potential function to satisfy the KL property of exponent $1/2$ at the limit point, so for the iterate sequence to have a local R-linear convergence rate. This condition is weaker than the one provided in \cite[Theorem 3.2]{LiPong18} for identifying the KL property of exponent $p\in[0,1)$ for a general composite function. The proposed iLPA is applied to a robust factorization model for matrix completion with outliers and non-uniform sampling, and numerical comparisons with the Polyak subgradient method and a proximal alternating minimization (PAM) method validate its efficiency.

Solar PV Installation Potential Assessment on Building Facades Based on Vision and Language Foundation Models

Building facades represent a significant untapped resource for solar energy generation in dense urban environments, yet assessing their photovoltaic (PV) potential remains challenging due to complex geometries and semantic com ponents. This study introduces SF-SPA (Semantic Facade Solar-PV Assessment), an automated framework that transforms street-view photographs into quantitative PV deployment assessments. The approach combines com puter vision and artificial intelligence techniques to address three key challenges: perspective distortion correction, semantic understanding of facade elements, and spatial reasoning for PV layout optimization. Our four-stage pipeline processes images through geometric rectification, zero-shot semantic segmentation, Large Language Model (LLM) guided spatial reasoning, and energy simulation. Validation across 80 buildings in four countries demonstrates ro bust performance with mean area estimation errors of 6.2% ± 2.8% compared to expert annotations. The auto mated assessment requires approximately 100 seconds per building, a substantial gain in efficiency over manual methods. Simulated energy yield predictions confirm the method's reliability and applicability for regional poten tial studies, urban energy planning, and building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) deployment. Convergence Analysis of an Inexact MBA Method for Constrained DC Problems

This paper concerns a class of constrained difference-of-convex (DC) optimization problems in which, the constraint functions are continuously differentiable and their gradients are strictly continuous. For such nonconvex and nonsmooth optimization problems, we develop an inexact moving balls approximation (MBA) method by a workable inexactness criterion for the solution of subproblems. This criterion is proposed by leveraging a global error bound for the strongly convex program associated with parametric optimization problems. We establish the full convergence of the iterate sequence under the Kurdyka-Łojasiewicz (KL) property of the constructed potential function, achieve the local convergence rate of the iterate and objective value sequences under the KL property of the potential function with exponent $q\in[1/2,1)$, and provide the iteration complexity of $O(1/ε^2)$ to seek an $ε$-KKT point. A verifiable condition is also presented to check whether the potential function has the KL property of exponent $q\in[1/2,1)$. To our knowledge, this is the first implementable inexact MBA method with a complete convergence certificate. Numerical comparison with DCA-MOSEK, a DC algorithm with subproblems solved by MOSEK, is conducted on $\ell_1\!-\!\ell_2$ regularized quadratically constrained optimization problems, which demonstrates the advantage of the inexact MBA in the quality of solutions and running time.

InterMamba: Efficient Human-Human Interaction Generation with Adaptive Spatio-Temporal Mamba

Human-human interaction generation has garnered significant attention in motion synthesis due to its vital role in understanding humans as social beings. However, existing methods typically rely on transformer-based architectures, which often face challenges related to scalability and efficiency. To address these issues, we propose a novel, efficient human-human interaction generation method based on the Mamba framework, designed to meet the demands of effectively capturing long-sequence dependencies while providing real-time feedback. Specifically, we introduce an adaptive spatio-temporal Mamba framework that utilizes two parallel SSM branches with an adaptive mechanism to integrate the spatial and temporal features of motion sequences. To further enhance the model's ability to capture dependencies within individual motion sequences and the interactions between different individual sequences, we develop two key modules: the self-adaptive spatio-temporal Mamba module and the cross-adaptive spatio-temporal Mamba module, enabling efficient feature learning. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art results on two interaction datasets with remarkable quality and efficiency. Compared to the baseline method InterGen, our approach not only improves accuracy but also requires a minimal parameter size of just 66M ,only 36% of InterGen's, while achieving an average inference speed of 0.57 seconds, which is 46% of InterGen's execution time.

An inexact $q$-order regularized proximal Newton method for nonconvex composite optimization

This paper concerns the composite problem of minimizing the sum of a twice continuously differentiable function $f$ and a nonsmooth convex function. For this class of nonconvex and nonsmooth problems, by leveraging a practical inexactness criterion and a novel selection strategy for iterates, we propose an inexact $q$-order regularized proximal Newton method for $q\in[2,3]$, which becomes an inexact cubic regularization (CR) method for $q=3$. We prove that the whole iterate sequence converges to a stationary point for the KL objective function; and when the objective function has the KL property of exponent $θ\in(0,\frac{q-1}{q})$, the convergence has a local $Q$-superlinear rate of order $\frac{q-1}{θq}$. In particular, under a local Hölderian error bound of order $γ\in(\frac{1}{q-1},1]$ on a second-order stationary point set, we show that the iterate and objective value sequences converge to a second-order stationary point and a second-order stationary value, respectively, with a local $Q$-superlinear rate of order $γ(q\!-\!1)$, specified as the $Q$-quadratic rate for $q=3$ and $γ=1$. This is the first practical inexact CR method with $Q$-quadratic convergence rate for nonconvex composite optimization. We validate the efficiency of the CR method with ZeroFPR as the inner solver by applying it to composite optimization problems with highly nonlinear $f$.

Semantic Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping: A Survey

Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (vSLAM) has achieved great progress in the computer vision and robotics communities, and has been successfully used in many fields such as autonomous robot navigation and AR/VR. However, vSLAM cannot achieve good localization in dynamic and complex environments. Numerous publications have reported that, by combining with the semantic information with vSLAM, the semantic vSLAM systems have the capability of solving the above problems in recent years. Nevertheless, there is no comprehensive survey about semantic vSLAM. To fill the gap, this paper first reviews the development of semantic vSLAM, explicitly focusing on its strengths and differences. Secondly, we explore three main issues of semantic vSLAM: the extraction and association of semantic information, the application of semantic information, and the advantages of semantic vSLAM. Then, we collect and analyze the current state-of-the-art SLAM datasets which have been widely used in semantic vSLAM systems. Finally, we discuss future directions that will provide a blueprint for the future development of semantic vSLAM.

Can Students Beyond The Teacher? Distilling Knowledge from Teacher's Bias

Knowledge distillation (KD) is a model compression technique that transfers knowledge from a large teacher model to a smaller student model to enhance its performance. Existing methods often assume that the student model is inherently inferior to the teacher model. However, we identify that the fundamental issue affecting student performance is the bias transferred by the teacher. Current KD frameworks transmit both right and wrong knowledge, introducing bias that misleads the student model. To address this issue, we propose a novel strategy to rectify bias and greatly improve the student model's performance. Our strategy involves three steps: First, we differentiate knowledge and design a bias elimination method to filter out biases, retaining only the right knowledge for the student model to learn. Next, we propose a bias rectification method to rectify the teacher model's wrong predictions, fundamentally addressing bias interference. The student model learns from both the right knowledge and the rectified biases, greatly improving its prediction accuracy. Additionally, we introduce a dynamic learning approach with a loss function that updates weights dynamically, allowing the student model to quickly learn right knowledge-based easy tasks initially and tackle hard tasks corresponding to biases later, greatly enhancing the student model's learning efficiency. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first strategy enabling the student model to surpass the teacher model. Experiments demonstrate that our strategy, as a plug-and-play module, is versatile across various mainstream KD frameworks. We will release our code after the paper is accepted.

A VMiPG method for composite optimization with nonsmooth term having no closed-form proximal mapping

This paper concerns the minimization of the sum of a twice continuously differentiable function $f$ and a nonsmooth convex function $g$ without closed-form proximal mapping. For this class of nonconvex and nonsmooth problems, we propose a line-search based variable metric inexact proximal gradient (VMiPG) method with uniformly bounded positive definite variable metric linear operators. This method computes in each step an inexact minimizer of a strongly convex model such that the difference between its objective value and the optimal value is controlled by its squared distance from the current iterate, and then seeks an appropriate step-size along the obtained direction with an armijo line-search criterion. We prove that the iterate sequence converges to a stationary point when $f$ and $g$ are definable in the same o-minimal structure over the real field $(\mathbb{R},+,\cdot)$, and if addition the objective function $f+g$ is a KL function of exponent $1/2$, the convergence has a local R-linear rate. The proposed VMiPG method with the variable metric linear operator constructed by the Hessian of the function $f$ is applied to the scenario that $f$ and $g$ have common composite structure, and numerical comparison with a state-of-art variable metric line-search algorithm indicates that the Hessian-based VMiPG method has a remarkable advantage in terms of the quality of objective values and the running time for those difficult problems such as high-dimensional fused weighted-lasso regressions.

360ORB-SLAM: A Visual SLAM System for Panoramic Images with Depth Completion Network

To enhance the performance and effect of AR/VR applications and visual assistance and inspection systems, visual simultaneous localization and mapping (vSLAM) is a fundamental task in computer vision and robotics. However, traditional vSLAM systems are limited by the camera's narrow field-of-view, resulting in challenges such as sparse feature distribution and lack of dense depth information. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a 360ORB-SLAM system for panoramic images that combines with a depth completion network. The system extracts feature points from the panoramic image, utilizes a panoramic triangulation module to generate sparse depth information, and employs a depth completion network to obtain a dense panoramic depth map. Experimental results on our novel panoramic dataset constructed based on Carla demonstrate that the proposed method achieves superior scale accuracy compared to existing monocular SLAM methods and effectively addresses the challenges of feature association and scale ambiguity. The integration of the depth completion network enhances system stability and mitigates the impact of dynamic elements on SLAM performance.

An inexact regularized proximal Newton method for nonconvex and nonsmooth optimization

This paper focuses on the minimization of a sum of a twice continuously differentiable function $f$ and a nonsmooth convex function. An inexact regularized proximal Newton method is proposed by an approximation to the Hessian of $f$ involving the $\varrho$th power of the KKT residual. For $\varrho=0$, we justify the global convergence of the iterate sequence for the KL objective function and its R-linear convergence rate for the KL objective function of exponent $1/2$. For $\varrho\in(0,1)$, by assuming that cluster points satisfy a locally Hölderian error bound of order $q$ on a second-order stationary point set and a local error bound of order $q>1\!+\!\varrho$ on the common stationary point set, respectively, we establish the global convergence of the iterate sequence and its superlinear convergence rate with order depending on $q$ and $\varrho$. A dual semismooth Newton augmented Lagrangian method is also developed for seeking an inexact minimizer of subproblems. Numerical comparisons with two state-of-the-art methods on $\ell_1$-regularized Student's $t$-regressions, group penalized Student's $t$-regressions, and nonconvex image restoration confirm the efficiency of the proposed method.

Collaborative Visual Inertial SLAM for Multiple Smart Phones

The efficiency and accuracy of mapping are crucial in a large scene and long-term AR applications. Multi-agent cooperative SLAM is the precondition of multi-user AR interaction. The cooperation of multiple smart phones has the potential to improve efficiency and robustness of task completion and can complete tasks that a single agent cannot do. However, it depends on robust communication, efficient location detection, robust mapping, and efficient information sharing among agents. We propose a multi-intelligence collaborative monocular visual-inertial SLAM deployed on multiple ios mobile devices with a centralized architecture. Each agent can independently explore the environment, run a visual-inertial odometry module online, and then send all the measurement information to a central server with higher computing resources. The server manages all the information received, detects overlapping areas, merges and optimizes the map, and shares information with the agents when needed. We have verified the performance of the system in public datasets and real environments. The accuracy of mapping and fusion of the proposed system is comparable to VINS-Mono which requires higher computing resources.
