L^{2}-blowup estimates of the plate equation

We consider the Cauchy problems in n-dimensional Euclidean space for the plate equation with a weighted L^{1}-initial data. We derive optimal estimates of the L^{2}-norm of solutions for n = 1, 2, 3, 4. In particular, such obtained results express infinite time blowup properties in the case when the 0-th moment of the initial velocity does not vanish. The idea to derive them is strongly inspired from an already developed technique by the author's collaborative works.

Decay properties and asymptotic behaviors for a wave equation with general strong damping

In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem for a wave equation with general strong damping $-μ(|D|)Δu_t$ motivated by [Tao, Anal. PDE (2009)] and [Ebert-Girardi-Reissig, Math. Ann. (2020)]. By employing energy methods in the Fourier space and WKB analysis, we derive decay estimates for solutions under a large class of $μ(|D|)$. In particularly, a threshold $\lim\nolimits_{|ξ|\to\infty}μ(|ξ|)=\infty$ is discovered for the regularity-loss phenomenon, where $μ(|ξ|)$ denotes the symbol of $μ(|D|)$. Furthermore, we investigate different asymptotic profiles of solution with additionally $L^1$ initial data, where some refined estimates in the sense of enhanced decay rate and reduced regularity are found. The derived results almost cover the known results with sufficiently small loss.

$L^{2}$-blowup estimates of the wave equation and its application to local energy decay

We consider the Cauchy problems in the whole space for the wave equation with a weighted L^{1}-initial data. We first derive sharp infinite time blowup estimates of the L^{2}-norm of solutions in the one and two dimensional cases. Then, we apply it to the local energy decay estimates for n = 2, which is not studied so completely when the 0-th moment of the initial velocity does not vanish. The idea to derive them is strongly inspired from a technique used in the author's previous papers.

Double diffusion structure of logarithmically damped wave equations with a small parameter

We consider a wave equation with a nonlocal logarithmic damping depending on a small parameter $θ\in (0,1/2)$. This research is a counter part of that was initiated by Charao-D'Abbicco-Ikehata considered in [5] for the large parameter case $θ\in (1/2,1)$. We study the Cauchy problem for this model in the whole space for the small parameter case, and we obtain an asymptotic profile and optimal estimates in time of solutions as time goes to infinity in $L^2$-sense. An important discovery in this research is that in the one dimensional case, we can present a threshold $θ^{*} = 1/4$ of the parameter $θ$ such that the solution of the Cauchy problem decays with some optimal rate for $θ\in (0,θ^{*})$, while the $L^2$-norm of the corresponding solution blows up in infinite time for $θ\in [θ^{*},1/2)$. The former (i.e., $θ\in (0,θ^{*})$ case) indicates an usual diffusion phenomenon, while the latter (i.e., $θ\in [θ^{*},1/2)$ case) implies, so to speak, a singular diffusion phenomenon. Such a singular diffusion in the one dimensional case is a quite novel phenomenon discovered through our new model produced by logarithmic damping with a small parameter $θ$.

Asymptotic behaviors for Blackstock's model of thermoviscous flow

We study a fundamental model in nonlinear acoustics, precisely, the general Blackstock's model (that is, without Becker's assumption) in the whole space $\mathbb{R}^n$. This model describes nonlinear acoustics in perfect gases under the irrotational flow. By means of the Fourier analysis we will derive $L^2$ estimates for the solution of the linear homogeneous problem and its derivatives. Then, we will apply these estimates to study three different topics: the optimality of the decay estimates in the case $n\geqslant 5$ and the optimal growth rate for the $L^2$-norm of the solution for $n=3,4$; the singular limit problem in determining the first- and second-order profiles for the solution of the linear Blackstock's model with respect to the small thermal diffusivity; the proof of the existence of global (in time) small data Sobolev solutions with suitable regularity for a nonlinear Blackstock's model.

A dissipative logarithmic-Laplacian type of plate equation: Asymptotic profile and decay rates

We introduce a new model of the logarithmic type of wave like plate equation with a nonlocal logarithmic damping mechanism. We consider the Cauchy problem for this new model in the whole space, and study the asymptotic profile and optimal decay rates of solutions as time goes to infinity in L^{2}-sense. The operator L considered in this paper was first introduced to dissipate the solutions of the wave equation in the paper studied by Charao-Ikehata in 2020. We will discuss the asymptotic property of the solution as time goes to infinity to our Cauchy problem, and in particular, we classify the property of the solutions into three parts from the viewpoint of regularity of the initial data, that is, diffusion-like, wave-like, and both of them.

A dissiptive logarithmic type evolution equation: asymptotic profile and optimal estimates

We introduce a new model of the logarithmic type of wave-like equation with a nonlocal logarithmic damping mechanism, which is rather weakly effective as compared with frequently studied fractional damping cases. We consider the Cauchy problem for this new model in the whole space, and study the asymptotic profile and optimal decay and/or blowup rates of solutions as time goes to infinity in L^{2}-sense. The operator L considered in this paper was used to dissipate the solutions of the wave equation in the paper studied by Charao-Ikehata in 2020, and in the low frequency parameters the principal part of the equation and the damping term is rather weakly effective than those of well-studied power type operators.

Asymptotic profiles for a wave equation with parameter dependent logarithmic damping

We study a nonlocal wave equation with logarithmic damping which is rather weak in the low frequency zone as compared with frequently studied strong damping case. We consider the Cauchy problem for this model in the whole space and we study the asymptotic profile and optimal estimates of the solutions and the total energy as time goes to infinity in L^{2}-sense. In that case some results on hypergeometric functions are useful.

The Cauchy problem for the Moore-Gibson-Thompson equation in the dissipative case

In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem for the linear and semilinear Moore-Gibson-Thompson (MGT) equation in the dissipative case. Concerning the linear MGT model, by utilizing WKB analysis associated with Fourier analysis, we derive some $L^2$ estimates of solutions, which improve those in the previous research [46]. Furthermore, asymptotic profiles of the solution and an approximate relation in a framework of the weighted $L^1$ space are derived. Next, with the aid of the classical energy method and Hardy's inequality, we get singular limit results for an energy and the solution itself. Concerning the semilinear MGT model, basing on these sharp $L^2$ estimates and constructing time-weighted Sobolev spaces, we investigate global (in time) existence of Sobolev solutions with different regularities. Finally, under a sign assumption on initial data, nonexistence of global (in time) weak solutions is proved by applying a test function method.

Asymptotic profile and optimal decay of solutions of some wave equations with logarithmic damping

We introduce a new model of the nonlocal wave equations with a logarithmic damping mechanism. We consider the Cauchy poroblem for the new model in the whole space. We study the asymptotic profile and optimal decay and blowup rates of solutions as time goes to infinity. The damping terms considered in this paper is not studied so far, and in the low frequency parameters the damping is rather weakly effective than that of well-studied fractional type of nonlocal damping. In order to get the optimal estimates in time we meet the so-called hypergeometric functions with special parameters.

Singular limit problem of abstract second order evolution equations

We consider the singular limit problem in a real Hilbert space for abstract second order evolution equations with a parameter $\varepsilon \in (0,1]$. We first give an alternative proof of the celebrated results due to Kisynski (1963) from the viewpoint of the energy method. Next we derive a more precise asymptotic profile as $\varepsilon \to +0$ of the solution itself depending on $\varepsilon$ under rather high regularity assumptions on the initial data.

Thresholds for low regularity solutions to wave equations with structural damping

We study the asymptotic behavior of solutions to wave equations with a structural damping term \[ u_{tt}-Δu+Δ^2 u_t=0, \qquad u(0,x)=u_0(x), \,\,\, u_t(0,x)=u_1(x), \] in the whole space. New thresholds are reported in this paper that indicate which of the diffusion wave property and the non-diffusive structure dominates in low regularity cases. We develop to that end the previous author's research in 2019 where they have proposed a threshold that expresses whether the parabolic-like property or the wave-like property strongly appears in the solution to some regularity-loss type dissipative wave equation.

Asymptotic profiles for damped plate equations with rotational inertia terms

We consider the Cauchy problem for plate equations with rotational inertia and frictional damping terms. We will derive asymptotic profiles of the solution in L^2-sense as time goes to infinity in the case when the initial data have high and low regularity, respectively. Especially, in the low regularity case of the initial data one encounters the regularity-loss structure of the solutions, and the analysis is more delicate. We employ the so-called Fourier splitting method combined with the explicit expression of the solutions (high frequency estimates) and the method due to Ikehata (low frequency estimates).

Moment conditions and lower bounds in expanding solutions of wave equations with double damping terms

In this report we obtain higher order asymptotic expansions of solutions to wave equations with frictional and viscoelastic damping terms. Although the diffusion phenomena are dominant, differences between the solutions we deal with and those of heat equations can be seen by comparing the second order expansions of them. In order to analyze such effects we consider the weighted L1 initial data. We also give some lower bounds which show the optimality of obtained expansions.

Asymptotic profile of solutions for strongly damped Klein-Gordon equations

We consider the Cauchy problem in the whole space for strongly damped Klein-Gordon equations. We derive asymptotic profles of solutions with weighted initial data by a simple method introduced by R. Ikehata. The obtained results show that the wave effect will be weak because of the mass term, especially in the low dimensional case (n = 1,2) as compared with the strongly damped wave equations without mass term (m = 0), so the most interesting topic in this paper is the n = 1,2 cases.

Uniform energy decay for wave equations with unbounded damping coefficients

We consider the Cauchy problem for wave equations with unbounded damping coefficients in the whole space. For a general class of unbounded damping coefficients, we derive uniform total energy decay estimates together with a unique existence result of a weak solution. In this case we never impose strong assumptions such as compactness of the support of the initial data. This means that we never rely on the finite propagation speed property of the solution, and we try to deal with an essential unbounded coefficient case.
