MAXI investigation into the longterm X-ray variability from the very-high-energy gamma-ray blazar Mrk 421

The archetypical very-high-energy gamma-ray blazar Mrk 421 was monitored for more than 3 years with the Gas Slit Camera onboard Monitor of All Sky X-ray Image (MAXI), and its longterm X-ray variability was investigated. The MAXI lightcurve in the 3 -- 10 keV range was transformed to the periodogram in the frequency range $f = 1 \times 10^{-8}$ -- $2 \times 10^{-6}$ Hz. The artifacts on the periodogram, resulting from data gaps in the observed lightcurve, were extensively simulated for variations with a power-law like Power Spectrum Density (PSD). By comparing the observed and simulated periodograms, the PSD index was evaluated as $α= 1.60 \pm 0.25$. This index is smaller than that obtained in the higher frequency range ($f > 1 \times 10^{-5}$ Hz), namely, $α= 2.14 \pm 0.06$ in the 1998 ASCA observation of the object. The MAXI data impose a lower limit on the PSD break at $f_{\rm b} = 5 \times 10^{-6}$ Hz, consistent with the break of $f_{\rm b} = 9.5 \times 10^{-6}$ Hz, suggested from the ASCA data. The low frequency PSD index of Mrk 421 derived with MAXI falls well within the range of the typical value among nearby Seyfert galaxies ($α= 1$ -- $2$). The physical implications from these results are briefly discussed.

Neutrinoful Universe

The Standard Model of particle physics fails to explain the important pieces in the standard cosmology, such as inflation, baryogenesis, and dark matter of the Universe. We consider the possibility that the sector to generate small neutrino masses is responsible for all of them; the inflation is driven by the Higgs field to break $B-L$ gauge symmetry which provides the Majorana masses to the right-handed neutrinos, and the reheating process by the decay of the $B-L$ Higgs boson supplies the second lightest right-handed neutrinos whose CP violating decays produce $B-L$ asymmetry, a la, leptogenesis. The lightest right-handed neutrinos are also produced by the reheating process, and remain today as the dark matter of the Universe. In the minimal model of the inflaton potential, one can set the parameter of the potential by the data from CMB observations including the BICEP2 and the Planck experiments. In such a scenario, the mass of the dark matter particle is predicted to be of the order of PeV. We find that the decay of the PeV right-handed neutrinos can explain the high-energy neutrino flux observed at the IceCube experiments if the lifetime is of the order of $10^{28}$ s.

Composite Higgsino

Several supersymmetric models in which there is a (partially) composite Higgs boson arising from (coupled to) a strong sector have been proposed. Such strong dynamics would help to cause the electroweak symmetry breaking naturally. In this paper, we focus on the compositeness of the Higgsinos in such models. We show that such a Higgsino compositeness can induce the characteristic decay branching fraction of the neutralinos. In such scenarios, the decay branching fraction of the second lightest neutral Higgsino into the lightest neutral Higgsino with photon can be large due to a dipole interaction. We also discuss the Higgsino dark matter feature. The annihilation cross section into gamma Z can be large.

Effective gravitational interactions of dark matter axions

We investigate the structure of gravitational self-interactions of coherently oscillating axions in the general relativistic framework. A generic action for a massive scalar field in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker background is first introduced based on the effective field theory approach to cosmological perturbations. Using the obtained setup, we evaluate the effective gravitational interaction of the massive scalar field, i.e. scalar quartic interactions mediated by metric perturbations. Applying the results to the system of dark matter axions, we estimate their self-interaction rate and discuss its implications for the axion Bose-Einstein condensate dark matter scenario. Leading contributions for the gravitational interactions of axions are given by the process mediated by the dynamical graviton field, which is essentially the Newtonian potential induced by fluctuations of the background fluids. We find that it leads to the same order of magnitude for the interaction rate of dark matter axions in the condensed regime, compared with the results of previous studies using the Newtonian approximation.

Flavor of Gluino Decay in High-Scale Supersymmetry

The discovery of the Higgs boson with a mass of about 125 GeV intimates us a possibility of a high-scale supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking model, where a sfermion mass scale is much higher than the electroweak scale. Although a general SUSY standard model can contribute to the low-energy flavor and/or CP-violating processes, the high-scale SUSY breaking model provides smaller signatures and therefore are less constrained, even in the presence of large flavor/CP violations of sfermions. However, a manner of gluino decay directly reflects the squark flavor structure and provides us a clue for the sfermion flavor structure. In this paper, we study the gluino decay in detail and discuss the interplay with the gluino decay and low-energy flavor and CP observation.

The 37-month MAXI/GSC source catalog in the high Galactic-latitude sky

We present the catalog of high Galactic-latitude ($|b|>10^{\circ}$) X-ray sources detected in the first 37-month data of Monitor of All-sky X-ray Image (MAXI) / Gas Slit Camera (GSC). To achieve the best sensitivity, we develop a background model of the GSC that well reproduces the data based on the detailed on-board calibration. Source detection is performed through image fit with the Poisson likelihood algorithm. The catalog contains 500 objects detected in the 4--10 keV band with significance of $s_{\rm D, 4-10 keV} \geq 7$. The limiting sensitivity is $\approx 7.5\times10^{-12}$ ergs cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ ($\approx 0.6$ mCrab) in the 4--10 keV band for 50% of the survey area, which is the highest ever achieved as an all-sky survey mission covering this energy band. We summarize the statistical properties of the catalog and results from cross matching with the Swift/BAT 70-month catalog, the meta-catalog of X-ray detected clusters of galaxies, and the MAXI/GSC 7-month catalog. Our catalog lists the source name (2MAXI), position and its error, detection significances and fluxes in the 4--10 keV and 3--4 keV bands, their hardness ratio, and basic information of the likely counterpart available for 296 sources.

Mass Splitting between Charged and Neutral Winos at Two-Loop Level

The recent result of the higgs search at the LHC experiment has lead to more attention to the supersymmetric standard models with heavy sfermions. Among them, the models with the almost pure wino being the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) have been widely discussed due to their success in providing a consistent dark matter candidate. The notable phenomenological feature of the wino LSP is the degeneracy with its charged SU(2)_L partner (the charged wino) in mass. The tiny mass splitting makes the charged wino long-lived, which allows us to detect the wino production at the LHC experiment by searching for the disappearing charged tracks inside the detectors. Since the reach of the experiment is sensitive to the mass splitting, it is mandatory to estimate it very precisely. We therefore perform a full calculation of the mass splitting at two-loop level, and find that the splitting is reduced by a few MeV compared to the one-loop calculation. This reduction leads to about a 30 % longer lifetime of the charged wino, with which the current constraint on the wino mass by the ATLAS experiment is improved by about 10 %.

Enhanced Diphoton Signal of the Higgs Boson and the Muon g-2 in Gauge Mediation Models

We study the diphoton signal of the Higgs boson in gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models, which can explain both the Higgs boson mass of around 125 GeV and the result of the muon g-2 experiment. We consider two possible extensions of gauge mediation models: inclusion of vector-like matters, and a mixing between a messenger and the up-type Higgs. The large left-right mixing of staus is induced in both scenarios, resulting in the enhanced diphoton signal. We include a constraint from a charge breaking minimum, which is severe for the large left-right mixing of staus. The branching fraction of h to gamma gamma can be about 40 percent larger than that of the Standard Model Higgs boson, in the region of parameter space where the Higgs boson mass of around 125 GeV and the muon g-2 are explained.

LHC Test of CDF $Wjj$ anomaly

We discuss a test of the CDF dijet anomaly at the LHC. The recent observed dijet mass peak at the CDF is well fitted by a new particle with a mass of around 150 GeV, which decays into two jets. In this paper, we focus on only $Wjj$ signal to avoid model dependence, and comprehensively study the LHC discovery/exclusion reach. We found almost all the models are inconsistent with the result of the LHC, unless only valence quarks contribute the new process. We also discuss further prospects of the LHC search for this anomaly.

Gluino Decay as a Probe of High Scale Supersymmetry Breaking

A supersymmetric standard model with heavier scalar supersymmetric particles has many attractive features. If the scalar mass scale is O(10 - 10^4) TeV, the standard model like Higgs boson with mass around 125 GeV, which is strongly favored by the LHC experiment, can be realized. However, in this scenario the scalar particles are too heavy to be produced at the LHC. In addition, if the scalar mass is much less than O(10^4) TeV, the lifetime of the gluino is too short to be measured. Therefore, it is hard to probe the scalar particles at a collider. However, a detailed study of the gluino decay reveals that two body decay of the gluino carries important information on the scalar scale. In this paper, we propose a test of this scenario by measuring the decay pattern of the gluino at the LHC.

A 125 GeV Higgs Boson Mass and Gravitino Dark Matter in R-invariant Direct Gauge Mediation

We discuss the SM-like Higgs boson mass in the MSSM in an R-invariant direct gauge mediation model with the gravitino mass in the O(1) keV range. The gravitino dark matter scenario in this mass range is a good candidate for a slightly warm dark matter. We show that the Higgs boson mass around 125 GeV suggested by the ATLAS and CMS experiments can be easily achieved in the direct gauge mediation model with this gravitino mass range.

Focus Point Assisted by Right-Handed Neutrinos

The large hadron collider experiments have now reached the focus point region in which the scalar masses are multi-TeV. We study the parameter region of the focus point scenario which may realize a natural electroweak symmetry breaking avoiding serious fine tuning. We show that the region with a mild tuning of 3-5 % level is expanded by introducing right-handed neutrinos in the framework of the seesaw scenario. We discuss the prediction of the Higgs mass, bounds on the squark and gluino masses, and the relic density of the lightest neutralino in such a parameter region.

Sneutrino Inflation with Asymmetric Dark Matter

The asymmetric dark matter scenario is known to give an interesting solution for the cosmic coincidence problem between baryon and dark matter densities. In the scenario, the dark matter asymmetry, which is translated to the dark matter density in the present universe, is transferred from the B-L asymmetry generated in the early universe. On the other hand, the generation of the B-L asymmetry is simply assumed, though many mechanisms for the generation are expected to be consistent with the scenario. We show that the generation of the asymmetry in the sneutrino inflation scenario works similarly to the asymmetric dark matter scenario, because the non-renormalizable operator which translates the B-L asymmetry to the dark matter asymmetry is naturally obtained by integrating right-handed neutrinos out. As a result, important issues concerning cosmology (inflation, the mass density of dark matter, and the baryon asymmetry of the universe) as well as neutrino masses and mixing have a unified origin, namely, the right-handed neutrinos.

Non-anomalous Discrete R-symmetry, Extra Matters, and Enhancement of the Lightest SUSY Higgs Mass

We consider low-energy supersymmetric model with non-anomalous discrete R-symmetry. In such a model, to make the R-symmetry non-anomalous, new particles with gauge quantum numbers should be inevitably added to the particle content of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). Those new particles may couple to the Higgs boson, resulting in a significant enhancement of the lightest Higgs mass. We show that, in such a model, the lightest Higgs mass can be much larger than the MSSM upper bound; the lightest Higgs mass as large as 140 GeV (or larger) becomes possible.

A Scalar Boson as a Messenger of New Physics

Quantum corrections generate a quadratically divergent mass term for the Higgs boson in the Standard Model. Thus, if the Higgs boson has a mass of order 100 GeV, it implies the presence of a cut-off of the theory around TeV scale, and some particles associated with the new physics may appear around the cut-off scale $Λ$. However, if $Λ$ is several TeV, it may be difficult to find such particles at the LHC. In this paper, we consider a situation in which the new physics provides relatively light particles compared with the scale $Λ$. In such a situation, we show that diphoton event and four lepton event by the decay of the Higgs and/or a new particle have naturally large cross section, and LHC may test the new physics in a considerably broad parameter region even if $Λ$ is several TeV.

A Possible Interpretation of CDF Dijet Mass Anomaly and its Realization in Supersymmetry

Recently, the CDF collaboration reports an anomaly in dijet mass distribution in association with a lepton and missing energy. We discuss a possibility that the origin of the lepton and missing energy comes not from a W boson but a new boson particle, which is also responsible for the dijet mass peak. We show that such a situation can be realized in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model and the dijet anomaly can be explained.

Gravitino Dark Matter and Light Gluino in an R-invariant Low Scale Gauge Mediation

We consider the simplest class of the R-invariant gauge mediation model with the gravitino mass in the one to ten keV range. We show that the entropy production from the supersymmetry breaking sector makes the gravitino into a warm dark matter candidate. We also discuss that the gluino mass can be lighter than the wino mass even when the messenger sector satisfies the GUT relations at the GUT scale.
