Key rate of quantum key distribution with hashed two-way classical communication

We propose an information reconciliation protocol that uses two-way classical communication. In the case of the BB84 protocol and the six-state protocol, the key rates of the quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols that use our proposed information reconciliation protocol are higher than previously known protocols for wide range of error rates. We also clarify the relation between the proposed protocol and known QKD protocols, and the relation between the proposed protocol and entanglement distillation protocols (EDPs).

Construction algorithm for network error-correcting codes attaining the Singleton bound

We give a centralized deterministic algorithm for constructing linear network error-correcting codes that attain the Singleton bound of network error-correcting codes. The proposed algorithm is based on the algorithm by Jaggi et al. We give estimates on the time complexity and the required symbol size of the proposed algorithm. We also estimate the probability of a random choice of local encoding vectors by all intermediate nodes giving a network error-correcting codes attaining the Singleton bound. We also clarify the relationship between the robust network coding and the network error-correcting codes with known locations of errors.

Security of quantum key distribution protocol with two-way classical communication assisted by one-time pad encryption

In this paper, we consider a quantum key distribution protocol (QKD) with two-way classical communication that is assisted by one-time pad encryption. We propose a two-way preprocessing that uses one-time pad encryption by previously shared secret key, and the net key rate of the QKD with proposed preprocessing exceeds the key rate of the QKD without it. The preprocessing is reduced to the entanglement distillation protocol with two-way classical communication and previously shared EPR pairs (two-way breeding protocol), and the security of QKD with the preprocessing is guaranteed in the same way as Shor and Preskill's arguments.

Primal-dual distance bounds of linear codes with application to cryptography

Let $N(d,d^\perp)$ denote the minimum length $n$ of a linear code $C$ with $d$ and $d^{\bot}$, where $d$ is the minimum Hamming distance of $C$ and $d^{\bot}$ is the minimum Hamming distance of $C^{\bot}$. In this paper, we show a lower bound and an upper bound on $N(d,d^\perp)$. Further, for small values of $d$ and $d^\perp$, we determine $N(d,d^\perp)$ and give a generator matrix of the optimum linear code. This problem is directly related to the design method of cryptographic Boolean functions suggested by Kurosawa et al.

Improvement of stabilizer based entanglement distillation protocols by encoding operators

This paper presents a method for enumerating all encoding operators in the Clifford group for a given stabilizer. Furthermore, we classify encoding operators into the equivalence classes such that EDPs (Entanglement Distillation Protocol) constructed from encoding operators in the same equivalence class have the same performance. By this classification, for a given parameter, the number of candidates for good EDPs is significantly reduced. As a result, we find the best EDP among EDPs constructed from [[4,2]] stabilizer codes. This EDP has a better performance than previously known EDPs over wide range of fidelity.

Noise Tolerance of the BB84 Protocol with Random Privacy Amplification

We prove that BB84 protocol with random privacy amplification is secure with a higher key rate than Mayers' estimate with the same error rate. Consequently, the tolerable error rate of this protocol is increased from 7.5 % to 11 %. We also extend this method to the case of estimating error rates separately in each basis, which enables us to securely share a longer key.

Two Methods for Decreasing the Computational Complexity of the MIMO ML Decoder

We propose use of QR factorization with sort and Dijkstra's algorithm for decreasing the computational complexity of the sphere decoder that is used for ML detection of signals on the multi-antenna fading channel. QR factorization with sort decreases the complexity of searching part of the decoder with small increase in the complexity required for preprocessing part of the decoder. Dijkstra's algorithm decreases the complexity of searching part of the decoder with increase in the storage complexity. The computer simulation demonstrates that the complexity of the decoder is reduced by the proposed methods significantly.

Maximum Mutual Information of Space-Time Block Codes with Symbolwise Decodability

In this paper, we analyze the performance of space-time block codes which enable symbolwise maximum likelihood decoding. We derive an upper bound of maximum mutual information (MMI) on space-time block codes that enable symbolwise maximum likelihood decoding for a frequency non-selective quasi-static fading channel. MMI is an upper bound on how much one can send information with vanishing error probability by using the target code.

Conversion of a general quantum stabilizer code to an entanglement distillation protocol

We show how to convert a quantum stabilizer code to a one-way or two-way entanglement distillation protocol. The proposed conversion method is a generalization of those of Shor-Preskill and Nielsen-Chuang. The recurrence protocol and the quantum privacy amplification protocol are equivalent to the protocols converted from [[2,1]] stabilizer codes. We also give an example of a two-way protocol converted from a stabilizer better than the recurrence protocol and the quantum privacy amplification protocol. The distillable entanglement by the class of one-way protocols converted from stabilizer codes for a certain class of states is equal to or greater than the achievable rate of stabilizer codes over the channel corresponding to the distilled state, and they can distill asymptotically more entanglement from a very noisy Werner state than the hashing protocol.

Lower bound for the quantum capacity of a discrete memoryless quantum channel

We generalize the random coding argument of stabilizer codes and derive a lower bound on the quantum capacity of an arbitrary discrete memoryless quantum channel. For the depolarizing channel, our lower bound coincides with that obtained by Bennett et al. We also slightly improve the quantum Gilbert-Varshamov bound for general stabilizer codes, and establish an analogue of the quantum Gilbert-Varshamov bound for linear stabilizer codes. Our proof is restricted to the binary quantum channels, but its extension of to l-adic channels is straightforward.

Algebraic geometric construction of a quantum stabilizer code

The stabilizer code is the most general algebraic construction of quantum error-correcting codes proposed so far. A stabilizer code can be constructed from a self-orthogonal subspace of a symplectic space over a finite field. We propose a construction method of such a self-orthogonal space using an algebraic curve. By using the proposed method we construct an asymptotically good sequence of binary stabilizer codes. As a byproduct we improve the Ashikhmin-Litsyn-Tsfasman bound of quantum codes. The main results in this paper can be understood without knowledge of quantum mechanics.

Fidelity of a t-error correcting quantum code with more than t errors

It is important to study the behavior of a t-error correcting quantum code when the number of errors is greater than t, because it is likely that there are also small errors besides t large correctable errors. We give a lower bound for the fidelity of a t-error correcting stabilizer code over a general memoryless channel, allowing more than t errors. We also show that the fidelity can be made arbitrary close to 1 by increasing the code length.

Decoding method for generalized algebraic geometry codes

We propose a decoding method for the generalized algebraic geometry codes proposed by Xing et al. To show its practical usefulness, we give an example of generalized algebraic geometry codes of length 567 over F_8 whose numbers of correctable errors by the proposed method are larger than the shortened codes of the primitive BCH codes of length 4095 in the most range of dimension.
