Higher-order Sobolev and Rellich inequalities via iterated Talenti's principle

In this paper we establish higher-order Sobolev and Rellich-type inequalities on non-compact Riemannian manifolds supporting an isoperimetric inequality. We highlight two notable settings: manifolds with non-negative Ricci curvature and having Euclidean volume growth (supporting Brendle's isoperimetric inequality) and manifolds with non-positive sectional curvature (satisfying the Cartan-Hadamard conjecture or supporting Croke's isoperimetric inequality). Our proofs rely on various symmetrization techniques, the key ingredient is an iterated Talenti's comparison principle. The non-iterated version is analogous to the main result of Chen and Li [J. Geom. Anal., 2023].

Sharp Hardy and spectral gap inequalities on special irreversible Finsler manifolds

The sharpness of various Hardy-type inequalities is well-understood in the reversible Finsler setting; while infinite reversibility implies the failure of these functional inequalities, cf. Kristály, Huang, and Zhao [Trans. Am. Math. Soc., 2020]. However, in the remaining case of irreversible manifolds with finite reversibility, there is no evidence on the sharpness of Hardy-type inequalities. In fact, we are not aware of any particular examples where the sharpness persists. In this paper we present two such examples involving two celebrated inequalities: the classical/weighted Hardy inequality (assuming non-positive flag curvature) and the McKean-type spectral gap estimate (assuming strong negative flag curvature). In both cases, we provide a family of Finsler metric measure manifolds on which these inequalities are sharp. We also establish some sufficient conditions, which guarantee the sharpness of more involved Hardy-type inequalities on these spaces. Our relevant technical tool is a Finslerian extension of the method of Riccati pairs (for proving Hardy inequalities), which also inspires the main ideas of our constructions.

Sharp spectral gap estimates for higher-order operators on Cartan-Hadamard manifolds

The goal of this paper is to provide sharp spectral gap estimates for problems involving higher-order operators (including both the clamped and buckling plate problems) on Cartan-Hadamard manifolds. The proofs are symmetrization-free -- thus no sharp isoperimetric inequality is needed -- based on two general, yet elementary functional inequalities. The spectral gap estimate for clamped plates solves a sharp asymptotic problem from Cheng and Yang [Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 2011] concerning the behavior of higher-order eigenvalues on hyperbolic spaces, and answers a question raised in Kristály [Adv. Math., 2020] on the validity of such sharp estimates in high-dimensional Cartan-Hadamard manifolds. As a byproduct of the general functional inequalities, various Rellich inequalities are established in the same geometric setting.

A generic functional inequality and Riccati pairs: an alternative approach to Hardy-type inequalities

We present a generic functional inequality on Riemannian manifolds, both in additive and multiplicative forms, that produces well known and genuinely new Hardy-type inequalities. For the additive version, we introduce Riccati pairs that extend Bessel pairs developed by Ghoussoub and Moradifam (Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 2008 & Math.A nn., 2011). This concept enables us to give very short/elegant proofs of a number of celebrated functional inequalities on Riemannian manifolds with sectional curvature bounded from above by simply solving a Riccati-type ODE. Among others, we provide alternative proofs for Caccioppoli inequalities, Hardy-type inequalities and their improvements, spectral gap estimates, interpolation inequalities, and Ghoussoub-Moradifam-type weighted inequalities. Concerning the multiplicative form, we prove sharp uncertainty principles on Cartan-Hadamard manifolds, i.e., Heisenberg-Pauli-Weyl uncertainty principles, Hydrogen uncertainty principles and Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities. Some sharpness and rigidity phenomena are also discussed.

Rellich inequalities via Riccati pairs on model space forms

We present a simple method for proving Rellich inequalities on Riemannian manifolds with constant, non-positive sectional curvature. The method is built upon simple convexity arguments, integration by parts, and the so-called Riccati pairs, which are based on the solvability of a Riccati-type ordinary differential inequality. These results can be viewed as the higher order counterparts of the recent work by Kajántó, Kristály, Peter, and Zhao, discussing Hardy inequalities using Riccati pairs.

On possible generalisations of quasi-contractions

This paper investigates whether some fixed point theorems for quasi-contractions on metric spaces introduced by Cirìc in [1] and generalised by Kumam et al. in [2] can be improved further. It turns out that the answer is negative. We provide two examples of complete metric spaces and two operators without fixed points. We prove that for any possible straightforward relaxation of generalised quasi-contractive conditions, one of these operators satisfies the condition.

On the conditions of fixed-point theorems concerning $F$-contractions

We prove a fixed-point theorem that generalises and simplifies a number of results in the theory of $F$-contractions. We show that all of the previously imposed conditions on the operator can be either omitted or relaxed. Furthermore, our result is formulated in the more general context of $b$-metric spaces and $φ$-contractions. We also point out that the framework of $F$-contractions can be reformulated in an equivalent way that is both closer in spirit to the classical syntax of Banach-type fixed point theorems, and also more natural and easier to deal with in the proofs.
