Can Gravity Distinguish between Dirac and Majorana Neutrinos?

The interaction of neutrinos with gravitational fields in the weak field regime at one loop to the leading order has been studied by Menon and Thalappilil. They deduced some theoretical differences between the Majorana and Dirac neutrinos. Then they proved that, in spite of these theoretical differences, as far as experiments are concerned, they would be virtually indistinguishable. We study the interaction of neutrinos with weak gravitational fields to the second order (at two loops). We show that there appear new neutrino gravitational form factors which were absent in the first-order calculations, so from a theoretical point of view there are more differences between the two kinds of neutrinos than in the first order, but we show that likewise they are indistinguishable experimentally.

Photonic dark matter portal revisited

In our previous paper [1], we studied a model of dark matter (DM) in which the hidden sector interacts with standard model particles via a hidden photonic portal (HP). We investigated the effects of this new interaction on the hydrogen atom and obtained an upper bound for the coupling of the model. In this work, we study the effects of HP on two interesting exotic atoms namely muonium and positronium. We obtain a tighter upper limit on the coupling. We also calculate the change (shift) in the Aharonov-Bohm phase due to HP and find that the phase shift is negligibly small (for DM particles mass in the GeV range). Recently a 3.5 keV X ray line signal observed in the spectrum of 73 galaxy clusters, reported by the XXM-Newton X ray observatory. Since in HP model the DM particles can decay directly into photons, so we finally calculate the value of the coupling constant f using the condition Delta E=3.5 keV.

Photonic dark matter portal and quantum physics

We study a model of dark matter in which the hidden sector interacts with standard model particles via a hidden photonic portal. We investigate the effects of this new interaction on the hydrogen atom, including the Stark, Zeeman and hyperfine effects. Using the accuracy of the measurement of energy, we obtain an upper bound for the coupling constant of the model. We also calculate the contribution from the hidden photonic portal to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, which provides an important probe of physics beyond the standard model.

Which is the Quantum Decay Law of Relativistic Particles?

We discuss the relation between the quantum-mechanical survival probability of an unstable system in motion and that of the system at rest. The usual definition of the survival probability which takes into account only the time evolution of an unstable system leads to a relation between the survival probability of the system in motion and that of the system at rest which is different from the standard relation based on relativistic time dilation. This approach led other authors to claim non-standard quantum-mechanical effects which are in clear contradiction with Special Relativity. We show that an appropriate relativistic definition of the survival probability which takes into account also the space evolution of an unstable system leads to the standard relation between the survival probability of the system in motion and that of the system at rest, in agreement with Special Relativity. We present a rigorous derivation of this result based on a wave packet treatment.

Neutrino spin oscillations in gravitational fields in non-commutative Spaces

We study neutrino spin oscillations in gravitational fields in non-commutative spaces. For the Schwarzschild metric the maximum frequency decreases with increasing the noncommutativity parameter. In the case of Reissner-Nordstrom (RN) metric, the maximum frequency of oscillation is a monotonically increasing function of the noncommutativity parameter .In both cases, the frequency of spin oscillations decreases as the distance from the gravitational source grows. We present a phenomenological application of our results. It is also shown that the noncommutativity parameter is bounded as 0.1 l_p.

Nonequivalent Ensembles for the Mean-Field $ϕ^{6}$ Spin Model

We derive the thermodynamic entropy of the mean field $ϕ^{6}$ spin model in the framework of the micro-canonical ensemble as a function of the energy and magnetization. Using the theory of large deviations and Rugh's micro-canonical formalism we obtain the entropy and its derivatives and study the thermodynamic properties of $ϕ^{6}$ spin model. The interesting point we found is that like $ϕ^{4}$ model the entropy is a concave function of the energy for all values of the magnetization, but is non-concave as a function of the magnetization for some values of the energy. This means that the magnetic susceptibility of the model can be negative for some values of the energy and magnetization in the micro-canonical formalism. This leads to the inequivalence of the micro-canonical and canonical ensembles. It is also shown that this mean-field model displays a first-order phase transition due to the magnetic field. Finally we compare the results of the mean-field $ϕ^{6}$ and $ϕ^{4}$ spin models.

Dynamical noncommutative quantum mechanics

We study some basic and interesting quantum mechanical systems in dynamical noncommutative spaces in which the space- space commutation relations are position dependent. It is observed that the fundamental objects in the dynamical noncommutative space introduced here are stringlike. We show that the Stark effect can be employed to determine whether the noncommutativity of space is dynamical or non-dynamical. It appears that unlike non-dynamical case there is a fundamental energy $\dfrac{τ\hbar^{2}}{m}$ in this dynamical space.}

Thermodynamics of quasianti-Hermitian quaternionic systems

Thermodynamics of quasianti-Hermitian quaternionic systems with constant number of particles in equilibrium is studied. A toy model is introduced and the physically relevant quantities are derived. The energy fluctuation which shows that for large N the relative r.m.s fluctuation in the values of E is quite negligible is derived. The negative temperature for such systems is also studied. Finally a physical example is discussed and physical explanations in the context of quantum physics are given.

Neutrino spin oscillations in gravitational fields

We study neutrino spin oscillations in black hole backgrounds. In the case of a charged black hole, the maximum frequency of oscillations is a monotonically increasing function of the charge. For a rotating black hole, the maximum frequency decreases with increasing the angular momentum. In both cases, the frequency of spin oscillations decreases as the distance from the black hole grows. As a phenomenological application of our results, we study simple bipolar neutrino system which is an interesting example of collective neutrino oscillations. We show that the precession frequency of the flavor pendulum as a function of the neutrino number density will be higher for a charged/non-rotating black hole compared with a neutral/rotating black hole respectively.

Quantum corrections to conductivity for semiconductors with various structures

We study the magnetic field dependences of the conductivity in heavily doped, strongly disordered 2D quantum well structures within wide conductivity and temperature ranges. We show that the exact analytical expression derived in our previous paper [1], is in better agreement than the existing equation i.e. Hikami(et.al.,) expression [2,3], with the experimental data even in low magnetic field for which the diffusion approximation is valid. On the other hand from theoretical point of view we observe that our equation is also rich because it establishes a strong relationship between quantum corrections to the conductivity and the quantum symmetry su_{q}(2). It is shown that the quantum corrections to the conductivity is the trace of Green function made by a generator of su_{q}(2)algebra. Using this fact we show that the quantum corrections to the conductivity can be expressed as a sum of an infinite number of Feynman diagrams.

Interactions of MeV and GeV sterile neutrinos with matter

Both cosmology and astrophysics suggest the possible existence of sterile neutrino which is a dark matter candidate. The interaction of sterile neutrinos with matter in keV energy scale has been studied in the literature. In this paper we study the interaction of sterile neutrinos with atoms and their role on ionization of atoms in MeV and GeV energy scale. We also study the interaction of sterile neutrinos with nuclei in the MeV and GeV energy scale. We obtain the relevant cross sections for both these two interactions. Finally we compare our results with the results of keV energy range.

Reissner-Nordstrom black hole in noncommutative spaces

We investigate the behaviour of a non-commutative radiating Reissner-Nordstrom(Re-No)black hole. We find some interesting results : a). the existence of a minimal non-zero mass to which the black hole can shrink. b). a finite maximum temperature that the black hole can reach before cooling down to absolute zero. c) compared to the neutral black holes the effect of charge is to increase the minimal non-zero mass and lower the maximum temperature. d) the absence of any curvature singularity. We also derive some essential thermodynamic quantities from which we study the stability of the black hole. Finally we find an upper bound for the non-commutativity parameter $θ$.

Hyperfine splitting in noncommutative spaces

We study the hyperfine splitting in the framework of the noncommutative quantum mechanics (NCQM) developed in the literature. The results show deviations from the usual quantum mechanics. We show that the energy difference between two excited F = I + 1/2 and the ground F = I - 1/2 states in a noncommutative space (NCS) is bigger than the one in the commutative case, so the radiation wavelength in NCSs must be shorter than the radiation wavelength in commutative spaces. We also find an upper bound for the noncommutativity parameter.

General noncommuting curvilinear coordinates and fluid Mechanics

We show that restricting the states of a charged particle to the lowest Landau level introduces noncommutativity between general curvilinear coordinate operators. The cartesian, circular cylindrical and spherical polar coordinates are three special cases of our quite general method. The connection between U(1) gauge fields defined on a general noncommuting curvilinear coordinates and fluid mechanics is explained. We also recognize the Seiberg-Witten map from general noncommuting to commuting variables as the quantum correspondence of the Lagrange to Euler map in fluid mechanics.

Lamb shift and Stark effect in simultaneous space-space and momentum-momentum noncommutative quantum mechanics and $θ$-deformed $su(2)$ algebra

We study the spectrum of Hydrogen atom, Lamb shift and Stark effect in the framework of simultaneous space-space and momentum-momentum (s-s, p-p) noncommutative quantum mechanics. The results show that the widths of Lamb shift due to noncommutativity is bigger than the one presented in [1]. We also study the algebras of abservables of systems of identical particles in s-s, p-p noncommutative quantum mechanics. We intoduce $θ$-deformed $su(2)$ algebra.

Scattering in Noncommutative Quantum Mechanics

We derive the correction due to noncommutativity of space on Born approximation, then the correction for the case of Yukawa potential is explicitly calculated. The correction depends on the angle of scattering. Using partial wave method it is shown that the conservation of the number of particles in elastic scattering is also valid in noncommutative spaces which means that the unitarity relation is held in noncommutative spaces. We also show that the noncommutativity of space has no effect on the optical theorem. Finally we study Gaussian function potential in noncommutative spaces which generates delta function potential as $θ\to 0$.

Running of the Spectral Index in Noncommutative Inflation

We study the cosmological implications of the space-space noncommutative inflation and present formulae for the spectral index and its running. Our results show that deviations from the spectral index and its running depend on the space-space noncommutativity length scale. We conclude that in the slow-roll regime of a typical inflationary scenario, space-space noncommutativity has negligible effects on both the spectral index and its running. Two classes of examples have been studied and comparisons made with the standard slow-roll formulae. The results show that the correction terms to the commutative case are positive for the spectral index and negative for the running of the spectral index. Nevertheless the spectral index in noncommutative spaces is less than one owing to the very small values of the correction terms.
