The Snyder-de Sitter Scalar $φ^4_{\star}$ Quantum Field Theory in D=2

We study the two-dimensional version of a quartic self-interacting quantum scalar field on a curved and noncommutative space (Snyder-de Sitter). We show that the model is renormalizable at the one-loop level and compute the beta functions of the related couplings. The renormalization group flow is then studied numerically, arriving at the conclusion that noncommutative-curved deformations can yield both relevant and irrelevant contributions to the one-loop effective action.

Worldline Formalism in Snyder Spaces

We study the $ϕ_{\star}^4$ model for a scalar field in a linearization of the Snyder model, using the methods of the Worldline Formalism. Our main result is a master equation for the 1-loop n-point function. From this we derive the renormalization of the coupling parameters of the theory and observe the appearance of a $ϕ^6$ divergent contribution that opens the question of whether this theory is renormalizable or not. Additionally, we observe that some terms in the renormalized action can be interpreted as coming from an effective metric proportional to the square of the field.

Effective action for delta potentials: spacetime-dependent inhomogeneities and Casimir self-energy

We study the vacuum fluctuations of a quantum scalar field in the presence of a thin and inhomogeneous flat mirror, modeled with a delta potential. Using Heat-Kernel techniques, we evaluate the Euclidean effective action perturbatively in the inhomogeneities (nonperturbatively in the constant background). We show that the divergences can be absorbed into a local counterterm, and that the remaining finite part is in general a nonlocal functional of the inhomogeneities, which we compute explicitly for massless fields in $D=4$ dimensions. For time-independent inhomogeneities, the effective action gives the Casimir self-energy for a partially transmitting mirror. For time-dependent inhomogeneities, the Wick-rotated effective action gives the probability of particle creation due to the dynamical Casimir effect.

Trace anomaly for Weyl fermions using the Breitenlohner-Maison scheme for $γ_*$

We revisit the computation of the trace anomaly for Weyl fermions using dimensional regularization. For a consistent treatment of the chiral gamma matrix $γ_*$ in dimensional regularization, we work in $n$ dimensions from the very beginning and use the Breitenlohner-Maison scheme to define $γ_*$. We show that the parity-odd contribution to the trace anomaly vanishes (for which the use of dimension-dependent identities is crucial), and that the parity-even contribution is half the one of a Dirac fermion. To arrive at this result, we compute the full renormalized expectation value of the fermion stress tensor to second order in perturbations around Minkowski spacetime, and also show that it is conserved.

Casimir effect in Snyder Space

We show that two indistinguishable aspects of the divergences occurring in the Casimir effect, namely the divergence of the energy of the higher modes and the non-com\-pact\-ness of the momentum space, get disentangled in a given noncommutative setup. To this end, we consider a scalar field between two parallel plates in an anti-Snyder space. Additionally, the large mass decay in this noncommutative setup is not necessarily exponential.

Thermodynamics in the NC disc

We study the thermodynamics of a scalar field on a noncommutative disc implementing the boundary as the limit case of an interaction with an appropriately chosen confining background. We explicitly obtain expressions for thermodynamic potentials of gases of particles obeying different statistics. In order to do that, we derive an asymptotic expansion for the density of the zeros of Laguerre polynomials. As a result we prove that the Bose-Einstein condensation in the noncommutative disc does not take place.
