Baryon operators and spectroscopy in lattice QCD

The construction of the operators and correlators required to determine the excited baryon spectrum is presented, with the aim of exploring the spatial and spin structure of the states while minimizing the number of propagator inversions. The method used to construct operators that transform irreducibly under the symmetries of the lattice is detailed, and the properties of example operators are studied using domain-wall fermion valence propagators computed on MILC asqtad dynamical lattices.

Mass spectrum of N* and source optimization

We have computed correlation functions for nucleons and extracted the masses for positive- and negative-parities. Use of group theory plays an important role in obtaining sources that have good overlap to higher spin states and minimum contamination from unwanted states. In the simulation three distinct sources and corresponding sinks that transform according to the $G_1$ irreducible representations are tested and used to form matrices of correlation functions. Diagonalizations give us clear mass splittings between low-lying states and excited states for both parities.

Gauge fixed domain wall fermions on lattice at small Yukawa coupling

Gauge fixed domain wall fermions are investigated in the reduced model at small Yukawa couplings. We present chiral propagators at the waveguide boundaries using quenched numerical simulations and analytic methods. There is no evidence of mirror chiral modes at the waveguide boundaries.

Investigation of gauge-fixed pure U(1) theory at strong coupling

We numerically investigate the phase diagram of pure U(1) gauge theory with gauge fixing at strong gauge coupling. The FM-FMD phase transition, which proved useful in defining Abelian lattice chiral gauge theory, persists also at strong gauge coupling. However, there the transition seems no to be longer continuous. At large gauge couplings we find evidences for confinement.

Chiral Gauge Theory on Lattice with Domain Wall Fermions

We investigate a U(1) lattice chiral gauge theory with domain wall fermions and compact gauge fixing. In the reduced model limit, our perturbative and numerical investigations show that there exist no extra mirror chiral modes. The longitudinal gauge degrees of freedom have no effect on the free domain wall fermion spectrum consisting of opposite chiral modes at the domain wall and at the anti-domain wall which have an exponentially damped overlap.

Effect of strain on the transport properties of the manganite systems

The effect of strain on the resistivity and thermopower of ferromagnetic manganites has been examined based on the model that incorporates the electron-lattice interaction through the Jahn-Teller effect and an effective hopping determined by nearest neighbour spin-spin correlation of t2g electrons. The metal insulator transition temperature associated with resistivity decreases with increase in strain. In the presence of large strain the system remains in the semiconducting state. Thermopower (S) is positive and increasing function of strain and it exhibits a maximum with temperature. The temperature where maximum of S appears, shifts towards higher (lower) value with in the presence of magnetic field (strain). A large magneto-thermopower that depends on strain is obtained around metal-insulator transition.

U(1) Chiral gauge theory on lattice with gauge-fixed domain wall fermions

We investigate a U(1) lattice chiral gauge theory with domain wall fermions and gauge fixing. In the reduced model limit, our perturbative and numerical investigations at Yukawa coupling y=1 show that there are no extra mirror chiral modes. The longitudinal gauge degrees of freedom have no effect on the free domain wall fermion spectrum consisting of opposite chiral modes at the domain wall and the anti-domain wall which have an exponentially damped overlap. Our numerical investigation at small Yukawa couplings also leads to similar conclusions as above.

Kramers Equation Algorithm with Kogut-Susskind Fermions on Lattice

We compare the performance of the Kramers Equation Monte Carlo (KMC) Algorithm with that of the Hybrid Monte Carlo (HMC) algorithm for numerical simulations with dynamical Kogut-Susskind fermions. Using the lattice Gross-Neveu model in 2 space-time dimensions, we calculate the integrated autocorrelation time of different observables at a number of couplings in the scaling region on 16^2 and 32^2 lattices while varying the parameters of the algorithms for optimal performance. In our investigation the performance of KMC is always significantly below than that of HMC for the observables used. We also stress the importance of having a large number of configurations for the accurate estimation of the integrated autocorrelation time.
