Electroweak radiative corrections to the three channels of the process f_1 bar-f_1 ZA --> 0

We have calculated the electroweak radiative corrections at the O(alpha) level to the three channels of the process f_1 bar-f_1 Z A --> 0 and implemented them into the SANC system. Here A stands for the photon and f_1 for a first generation fermion whose mass is neglected everywhere except in arguments of logarithmic functions. The symbol --> 0 means that 4-momenta of all the external particles flow inwards. We present the complete analytical results for the covariant and helicity amplitudes for three cross channels: f_1 + bar-f_1 --> Z + gamma, Z --> f_1 + bar-f_1 + gamma and f_1 + gamma --> f_1 + Z. The one-loop scalar form factors of these channels are simply related by an appropriate permutation of their arguments s,t,u. To check the correctness of our results we first of all observe the independence of the scalar form factors on the gauge parameters and the validity of the Ward identity, i.e. external photon transversality, and, secondly, compare our numerical results with the other independent calculations available to us.

Boundary conditions in the QCD nucleus-nucleus scattering problem

In the framework of the effective field theory for interacting BFKL pomerons, applied to nucleus-nucleus scattering, boundary conditions for the classical field equations are discussed. Correspondence with the QCD diagrams at the boundary rapidities requires pomeron interaction with the participating nuclei to be exponential and non-local. Commonly used 'eikonal' boundary conditions, local and linear in fields, follow in the limit of small QCD pomeron-nucleon coupling. Numerical solution of the classical field equations, which sum all tree diagrams for central gold-gold scattering, demonstrates that corrected boundary conditions lead to substantially different results, as compared to the eikonal conditions studied in earlier publications. A breakdown of projectile-target symmetry for particular solutions discovered earlier in \cite{bom} is found to occur at roughly twice lower rapidity. Most important, due to a high non-linearity of the problem, the found asymmetric solutions are not unique but form a family growing in number with rapidity. The minimal value for the action turns out to be much lower than with the eikonal boundary conditions and saturates at rapidities around 10.

SANCnews: Sector ffbb

In this paper we describe the implementation of processes f_1 bar-f_1 ZZ --> 0 and f_1 bar-f_1 HZ --> 0 into the framework of SANC system. The f_1 stands for a massless fermion f whose mass is kept non-zero only in arguments of ln functions and --> 0 means that all 4-momenta flow inwards. The derived scalar form factors can be used for any cross channel after an appropriate permutation of their arguments (s,t,u). We present the covariant and helicity amplitudes for these processes: for the former only in the annihilation channel f_1 bar-f_1 --> ZZ, while for the latter in annihilation f_1 bar-f_1 --> HZ and decay H --> Z f_1 bar-f_1 channels. We briefly describe additional precomputation modules which were not covered in the previous paper. For the processes f_1 bar-f_1 --> HZ(ZZ) and decay H --> Z f_1 bar-f_1 we present compact results of calculation of the accompanying bremsstrahlung and discuss exhaustive numerical results. As applications there are two types of the Monte Carlo generators for the process H --> 4μ. The first one is the generator based on a single resonance approximation for one of the Z bosons. The second one, exploiting the double resonance approximation, is not described in this article. For the generator in the single approximation we present a short description. Whenever possible, we compare our results with those existing in the literature. For example, we present a comparison of the results for H --> 4 μdecay with those obtained by MC generator Prophecy4f.

Tevatron-for-LHC Report: Top and Electroweak Physics

The top quark and electroweak bosons (W and Z) represent the most massive fundamental particles yet discovered, and as such refer directly to the Standard Model's greatest remaining mystery: the mechanism by which all particles gained mass. This report summarizes the work done within the top-ew group of the Tevatron-for-LHC workshop. It represents a collection of both Tevatron results, and LHC predictions. The hope is that by considering and comparing both machines, the LHC program can be improved and aided by knowledge from the Tevatron, and that particle physics as a whole can be enriched. The report includes measurements of the top quark mass, searches for single top quark production, and physics of the electroweak bosons at hadron colliders.

Langevin equation in effective theory of interacting QCD pomerons in the limit of large $N_c$

Effective field theory of interacting BFKL pomerons is investigated and Langevin equations for the theory, which arise after the introduction of additional auxiliary field, are obtained. The Langevin equations are considered for the case of interacting BFKL pomerons with both splitting and merging vertexes and for the interaction which includes additional "toy" four pomeron interaction vertex. In the latest case an analogy with the Regge field theory in zero dimensions (RFT-0) was used in order to obtain this "toy" four pomeron interaction vertex. The comparison between the Langevin equations obtained in the frameworks of dipole and RFT approaches is performed, the interpretation of results is given and possible implementation of obtained equations is discussed.

SANCnews: Sector 4f, Charged Current

In this paper we describe the implementation of the charged current decays of the kind t --> b l^+ nu_l (gamma) into framework of SANC system. All calculations are done taking into account one-loop electroweak correction in the Standard Model. The emphasis of this paper is done on the presentation of numerical results. Various distributions are produced by means of a Monte Carlo integrator and event generator. Comparison with the results of CompHEP and PYTHIA packages are presented for the Born and hard photon contributions. The validity of the cascade approximation at one-loop level is also studied.

The three channels of the process f_1 bar-f_1 H A --> 0 in the SANC framework

In this paper we describe the implementation of the processes f_1 bar-f_1 H A --> 0 into the framework of SANC system. Here A stands for a photon and f_1 -- for a massless fermion whose mass is neglected everywhere besides arguments of logarithmic functions. The symbol --> 0 means that all 4-momenta flow inwards. The derived one-loop scalar form factors can be used for any cross channel after an appropriate permutation of their arguments s,t,u. We present the covariant and helicity amplitudes for all three possible cross channels. For checking of the correctness of the results first of all we observe the independence on the gauge parameters and the validity of Ward identity (external photon transversality), and, secondly, we make an extensive comparison with the other independent calculations.

On the equivalence of Reggeon field theory in zero transverse dimensions and reaction-diffusion processes

The Reggeon field theory in zero transverse dimensions is investigated. Two versions of the theory are considered: one that allows at most triple pomeron interactions and the other that embodies an additional 2-->2 quartic Reggeon coupling. The behavior of the scattering amplitude at asymptotic rapidities is obtained in both cases. In an s-channel picture of the high energy scattering both models can be viewed as reaction-diffusion processes. We derive known results in Reggeon field theory rather easily using the reaction-diffusion formalism. We find that some results which are surprising from the Reggeon field theory point of view turn out to have a simple interpretation from the reaction-diffusion point of view.

Les Houches Physics at TeV Colliders 2005, Standard Model and Higgs working group: Summary report

This Report summarises the activities of the "SM and Higgs" working group for the Workshop "Physics at TeV Colliders", Les Houches, France, 2-20 May, 2005. On the one hand, we performed a variety of experimental and theoretical studies on standard candles (such as W, Z, and ttbar production), treating them either as proper signals of known physics, or as backgrounds to unknown physics; we also addressed issues relevant to those non-perturbative or semi-perturbative ingredients, such as Parton Density Functions and Underlying Events, whose understanding will be crucial for a proper simulation of the actual events taking place in the detectors. On the other hand, several channels for the production of the Higgs, or involving the Higgs, have been considered in some detail. The report is structured into four main parts. The first one deals with Standard Model physics, except the Higgs. A variety of arguments are treated here, from full simulation of processes constituting a background to Higgs production, to studies of uncertainties due to PDFs and to extrapolations of models for underlying events, from small-$x$ issues to electroweak corrections which may play a role in vector boson physics. The second part of the report treats Higgs physics from the point of view of the signal. In the third part, reviews are presented on the current status of multi-leg, next-to-leading order and of next-to-next-to-leading order QCD computations. Finally, the fourth part deals with the use of Monte Carlos for simulation of LHC physics.

Exclusive Higgs boson production at the LHC: hard rescattering corrections

We examine, as a correction to the central exclusive Higgs boson production in $pp$ collisions at the LHC, the rescattering of gluonic ladders off the proton. As usual, at the lowest order the hard part of this process can be described as a fusion of two hard gluonic ladders. We calculate corrections to this hard amplitude which are due to rescattering of these ladders. These corrections, which contain high mass diffractive excitations of the proton, have not yet been taken into account by the usual soft survival probabilities. We find that the correction due to the exchange of a single hard rescattering is negative, large and infrared sensitive. As a first step towards a more reliable description we therefore replace the rescattering exchange by a unitarized amplitude using the BK equation which generates the saturation scale $Q_s(x)$. We also include a soft gap survival probability factor. We discuss the results and outline possible future strategies.

SANCscope -- v.1.00

In this article we have summarized the status of the system SANC version 1.00. We have implemented theoretical predictions for many high energy interactions of fundamental particles at the one-loop precision level for up to 4-particle processes. In the present part of our SANC description we place emphasis on an extensive discussion of an important first step of calculations of the one-loop amplitudes of 3- and 4-particle processes in QED, QCD and EW theories. Proton-proton interaction in constituent quarks model at LHC energies

In this paper we consider the soft processes at LHC energies in the framework of the Constituent Quark Model (CQM). We show that this rather naive model is able to describe all available soft data at lower energies and to predict the behavior of the total cross section, elastic and diffractive cross sections at the LHC energy. It turns out that the ''input'' Pomeron, which has been used in this approach, has parameters that are close to so called ''hard'' Pomeron with rather large intercept $Δ\approx 0.12$ and small value of the slope $α'_P \approx 0.08 GeV^{-2}$. We show that the elastic amplitude has a minimum at impact parameter $b =0$ and a maximum at $b \approx 2 GeV^{-1}$. Such a behavior is a result of overlapping the parton clouds that belong to different quarks in the hadron.

QCD Saturation in the Semi-classical Approach

In this paper the semi-classical approach to the solution of non-linear evolution equation is developed. We found the solution in the entire kinematic region to the non-linear evolution equation that governs the dynamics in the high parton density QCD. The large impact parameter ($b_t$) behavior of the solution is discussed as well as the way how to include the non-perturbative QCD corrections in this region of $b_t$. The geometrical scaling behavior and other properties of the solution in the saturation (Color Glass Condensate) kinematic domain are analyzed. We obtain the asymptotic behavior for the physical observables and found the unitarity bounds for them.

Gamma^* - Gamma^* Scattering: Saturation and Unitarization in the BFKL approach

In this paper $γ^* - γ^*$ scattering with large, but more or less equal virtualities of two photons is discussed using BFKL dynamics, emphasizing the large impact parameter behavior ($b_t$) of the dipole-dipole amplitude. It is shown that the non-perturbative contribution is essential to fulfill the unitarity constraints in the region of $b_t > 1/2 m_π$, where $m_π$ is pion mass. The saturation and the unitarization of the dipole-dipole amplitude is considered in the framework of the Glauber-Mueller approach. The main result is that we can satisfy the unitarity constraints introducing the non-perturbative corrections only in initial conditions (Born amplitude).

Update of one-loop corrections for E+ E- --> F anti-F, first run of SANC system

We present a description of calculations of the amplitude for E+ E- --> F anti-F process with account of electroweak and QED one-loop corrections. This study is performed within the framework of the project SANC. The calculations are done within the OMS (on-mass-shell) renormalization scheme in two gauges: in Rxi, which allows an explicit control of gauge invariance by examining cancellation of gauge parameters and search for gauge-invariant subsets of diagrams, and in the unitary gauge as a cross-check. The formulae we derived are realized in two independent FORTRAN codes, eeffLib, which was written in an old fashioned way, i.e. manually, and another one, created automatically with an aid of s2n.f (symbols to numbers) software -- a part of SANC system. We present a comprehensive comparison with the results of the well-known program ZFITTER for all the light fermion production channels, as well as with the results existing in the world literature for the process E+ E- --> F anti-F;
