A first-class approach of higher derivative Maxwell-Chern-Simons Proca model

The equivalence between a higher derivative extension of Maxwell-Chern-Simons Proca model and some gauge invariant theories from the point of view of the Hamiltonian path integral quantization in the framework of gauge-unfixing approach is investigated. The Hamiltonian path integrals of the first-class systems take manifestly Lorentz-covariant forms.

First-Class Approaches to Massive 2-Forms

Massive 2-forms are analyzed from the point of view of the Hamiltonian quantization using the gauge-unfixing approach and respectively the Batalin--Fradkin method. Both methods finally output the manifestly Lorentz covariant path integral for 1- and 2-forms with Stueckelberg coupling.

Consistent interactions of dual linearized gravity in D=5: couplings with a topological BF model

Under some plausible assumptions, we find that the dual formulation of linearized gravity in D=5 can be nontrivially coupled to the topological BF model in such a way that the interacting theory exhibits a deformed gauge algebra and some deformed, on-shell reducibility relations. Moreover, the tensor field with the mixed symmetry (2,1) gains some shift gauge transformations with parameters from the BF sector.

Reducible second-class constraints of order L: An irreducible approach

An irreducible canonical approach to second-class constraints reducible of an arbitrary order is given. This method generalizes our previous results from [Europhys. Lett. 50 (2000) 169, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 40 (2007) 14537] for first- and respectively second-order reducible second-class constraints. The general procedure is illustrated on Abelian gauge-fixed p-forms.

On the uniqueness of D=11 interactions among a graviton, a massless gravitino and a three-form. IV: Putting things together

Under the hypotheses of smoothness of the interactions in the coupling constant, locality, Poincare invariance, Lorentz covariance, and the preservation of the number of derivatives on each field in the Lagrangian of the interacting theory (the same number of derivatives like in the free Lagrangian), we prove that the only consistent interactions in D=11 among massless gravitini, a graviton, and a 3-form are described by N=1, D=11 SUGRA.

On the uniqueness of D=11 interactions among a graviton, a massless gravitino and a three-form. III: Graviton and gravitini

Under the hypotheses of smoothness of the interactions in the coupling constant, locality, Poincare invariance, Lorentz covariance, and the preservation of the number of derivatives on each field in the Lagrangian of the interacting theory (the same number of derivatives like in the free Lagrangian), we prove that in D=11 there are no cross-interactions between the graviton and the massless gravitino and also no self-interactions in the Rarita-Schwinger sector. A comparison with the case D=4 is briefly discussed.

On the uniqueness of D=11 interactions among a graviton, a massless gravitino and a three-form. II: Three-form and gravitini

The interactions that can be introduced between a massless Rarita-Schwinger field and an Abelian three-form gauge field in eleven spacetime dimensions are analyzed in the context of the deformation of the free solution of the master equation combined with local BRST cohomology. Under the hypotheses of smoothness of the interactions in the coupling constant, locality, Poincare invariance, Lorentz covariance, and the presence of at most two derivatives in the Lagrangian of the interacting theory (the same number of derivatives like in the free Lagrangian), we prove that there are neither cross-couplings nor self-interactions for the gravitino in D=11.The only possible term that can be added to the deformed solution to the master equation is nothing but a generalized Chern-Simons term for the three-form gauge field, which brings contributions to the deformed Lagrangian, but does not modify the original, Abelian gauge transformations.

On the uniqueness of D=11 interactions among a graviton, a massless gravitino and a three-form. I: Pauli-Fierz and three-form

Cross-couplings between a massless spin-two field (described in the free limit by the Pauli-Fierz action) and an Abelian three-form gauge field in D=11 are investigated in the framework of the deformation theory based on local BRST cohomology. These consistent interactions are obtained on the grounds of smoothness in the coupling constant, locality, Lorentz covariance, Poincare invariance, and the presence of at most two derivatives in the interacting Lagrangian. Our results confirm the uniqueness of the eleven-dimensional interactions between a graviton and a three-form prescribed by General Relativity.

Interactions for a collection of spin-two fields intermediated by a massless p-form

Under the general hypotheses of locality, smoothness of interactions in the coupling constant, Poincare invariance, Lorentz covariance, and preservation of the number of derivatives on each field, we investigate the cross-couplings of one or several spin-two fields to a massless p-form. Two complementary cases arise. The first case is related to the standard interactions from General Relativity, but the second case describes a new, special type of couplings in D=p+2 spacetime dimensions, which break the PT-invariance. Nevertheless, no consistent, indirect cross-interactions among different gravitons with a positively defined metric in internal space can be constructed.

On the generalized Freedman-Townsend model

Consistent interactions that can be added to a free, Abelian gauge theory comprising a finite collection of BF models and a finite set of two-form gauge fields (with the Lagrangian action written in first-order form as a sum of Abelian Freedman-Townsend models) are constructed from the deformation of the solution to the master equation based on specific cohomological techniques. Under the hypotheses of smoothness in the coupling constant, locality, Lorentz covariance, and Poincare invariance of the interactions, supplemented with the requirement on the preservation of the number of derivatives on each field with respect to the free theory, we obtain that the deformation procedure modifies the Lagrangian action, the gauge transformations as well as the accompanying algebra. The interacting Lagrangian action contains a generalized version of non-Abelian Freedman-Townsend model. The consistency of interactions to all orders in the coupling constant unfolds certain equations, which are shown to have solutions.

No cross-interactions between the Weyl graviton and the massless Rarita-Schwinger field

The proof of the fact that there are no nontrivial, consistent cross-couplings that can be added between the Weyl graviton and the massless Rarita-Schwinger field is accomplished by means of a cohomological approach, based on the deformation of the solution to the master equation from the antifield-Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) formalism. The procedure developed here relies on the assumptions of locality, smoothness, (background) Lorentz invariance, Poincare invariance, and preservation of the number of derivatives with respect to each field (the last hypothesis was made only in antighost number zero).

Couplings between a collection of BF models and a set of three-form gauge fields

Consistent interactions that can be added to a free, Abelian gauge theory comprising a collection of BF models and a set of three-form gauge fields are constructed from the deformation of the solution to the master equation based on specific cohomological techniques. Under the hypotheses of smooth, local, PT invariant, Lorentz covariant, and Poincare invariant interactions, supplemented with the requirement on the preservation of the number of derivatives on each field with respect to the free theory, we obtain that the deformation procedure modifies the Lagrangian action, the gauge transformations as well as the accompanying algebra.

No interactions for a collection of spin-two fields intermediated by a massive Rarita-Schwinger field

The cross-couplings among several massless spin-two fields (described in the free limit by a sum of Pauli-Fierz actions) in the presence of a massive Rarita-Schwinger field are investigated in the framework of the deformation theory based on local BRST cohomology. Under the hypotheses of locality, smoothness of the interactions in the coupling constant, Poincare invariance, Lorentz covariance, and the preservation of the number of derivatives on each field, we prove that there are no consistent cross-interactions among different gravitons with a positively defined metric in internal space in the presence of a massive Rarita-Schwinger field. The basic features of the couplings between a single Pauli-Fierz field and a massive Rarita-Schwinger field are also emphasized.

PT-symmetry breaking hamiltonian interactions in BF models

The PT-symmetry breaking, consistent hamiltonian interactions in all $n\geq 4$ spacetime dimensions that can be added to an abelian BF model involving a set of scalar fields, two sorts of one-forms, and a system of two-forms are obtained by means of the hamiltonian deformation procedure based on local BRST cohomology. This paper enhances one of our previous works, where only PT-invariant deformations were considered. The associated coupled theory is an interacting, topological BF model exhibiting an open gauge algebra and on-shell reducibility relations.

Self-interactions in a topological BF-type model in D=5

All consistent interactions in five spacetime dimensions that can be added to a free BF-type model involving one scalar field, two types of one-forms, two sorts of two-forms, and one three-form are investigated by means of deforming the solution to the master equation with the help of specific cohomological techniques. The couplings are obtained on the grounds of smoothness, locality, (background) Lorentz invariance, Poincaré invariance, and the preservation of the number of derivatives on each field.
