On Dark Energy and Accelerated Reference Frames

The paper is devoted to an explanation of the accelerated rate of expansion of the Universe. Usually the acceleration of the Universe, which is described by FRW metric, is due to dark energy. It is shown that this effect may be considered as a manifestation of torsion tensor for a flat Universe in the realm of Teleparallel gravity. An observer with radial field velocity obey Hubble's Law. As a consequence it is established that this is radial acceleration in a flat Universe. In Eq. (\ref{24}) the acceleration is written in terms of the deceleration parameter, the Hubble's constant and the proper distance. This may be interpreted as an acceleration of the Universe.

On Special Re-quantization of a Black Hole

Quantized expressions for the gravitational energy and momentum are derived from a linearized theory of teleparallel gravity. The derivation relies on a second-quantization procedure that constructs annihilation and creation operators for the graviton. The resulting gravitational field is a collection of gravitons, each of which has precise energy and momentum. On the basis of the weak-field approximation of Schwarzschild's solution, a new form for the quantization of the mass of a black hole is derived.

Teleparallel formalism of galilean gravity

A pseudo-Riemannian manifold is introduced, with light-cone coordinates in (4+1) dimensional space-time, to describe a Galilei covariant gravity. The notion of 5-bein and torsion are developed and a galilean version of teleparallelism is constructed in this manifold. The formalism is applied to two spherically symmetric configurations. The first one is an ansatz which is inferred by following the Schwarzschild solution in general relativity. The second one is a solution of galilean covariant equations. In addition, this Galilei teleparallel approach provides a prescription to couple the 5-bein field to the galilean covariant Dirac field.

Hamiltonian formulation of unimodular gravity in the teleparallel geometry

In the context of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity we establish the Hamiltonian formulation of the unimodular theory of gravity. Here we do not carry out the usual $3+1$ decomposition of the field quantities in terms of the lapse and shift functions, as in the ADM formalism. The corresponding Lagrange multiplier is the timelike component of the tetrad field. The dynamics is determined by the Hamiltonian constraint ${\cal H}'_0$ and a set of primary constraints. The constraints are first class and satisfy an algebra that is similar to the algebra of the Poincaré group.

The Gravitational Energy Problem for Cosmological Models in Teleparallel Gravity

We present a method to calculate the gravitational energy when asymptotic boundary conditions for the space-time are not given. This is the situation for most of the cosmological models. The expression for the gravitational energy is obtained in the context of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity. We apply our method first to the Schwarzschild-de Sitter solution of Einstein's equation, and then to the Robertson-Walker Universe. We show that in the first case our method leads to an average energy density of the vacuum space-time, and in latter case the energy vanishes in the case of null curvature.

Electrodynamics in accelerated frames revisited

Maxwell's equations are formulated in arbitrary moving frames by means of tetrad fields, which are interpreted as reference frames adapted to observers in space-time. We assume the existence of a general distribution of charges and currents in an inertial frame. Tetrad fields are used to project the electromagnetic fields and sources on accelerated frames. The purpose is to study several configurations of fields and observers that in the literature are understood as paradoxes. For instance, are the two situations, (i) an accelerated charge in an inertial frame, and (ii) a charge at rest in an inertial frame described from the perspective of an accelerated frame, physically equivalent? Is the electromagnetic radiation the same in both frames? Normally in the analysis of these paradoxes the electromagnetic fields are transformed to (uniformly) accelerated frames by means of a coordinate transformation of the Faraday tensor. In the present approach coordinate and frame transformations are disentangled, and the electromagnetic field in the accelerated frame is obtained through a frame (local Lorentz) transformation. Consequently the fields in the inertial and accelerated frames are described in the same coordinate system. This feature allows the investigation of paradoxes such as the one mentioned above.

Pound-Rebka experiment and torsion in the Schwarzschild spacetime

We develop some ideas discussed by E. Schucking [arXiv:0803.4128] concerning the geometry of the gravitational field. First, we address the concept according to which the gravitational acceleration is a manifestation of the spacetime torsion, not of the curvature tensor. It is possible to show that there are situations in which the geodesic acceleration of a particle may acquire arbitrary values, whereas the curvature tensor approaches zero. We conclude that the spacetime curvature does not affect the geodesic acceleration. Then we consider the the Pound-Rebka experiment, which relates the time interval $Δτ_1$ of two light signals emitted at a position $r_1$, to the time interval $Δτ_2$ of the signals received at a position $r_2$, in a Schwarzschild type gravitational field. The experiment is determined by four spacetime events. The infinitesimal vectors formed by these events do not form a parallelogram in the (t,r) plane. The failure in the closure of the parallelogram implies that the spacetime has torsion. We find the explicit form of the torsion tensor that explains the nonclosure of the parallelogram.

Galilean Covariance and the Gravitational Field

The paper is concerned with the development of a gravitational field theory having locally a covariant version of the Galilei group. We show that this Galilean gravity can be used to study the advance of perihelion of a planet, following in parallel with the result of the (relativistic) theory of general relativity in the post-Newtonian approximation.

On the gravitational angular momentum of rotating sources

The gravitational energy-momentum and angular momentum satisfy the algebra of the Poincare group in the full phase space of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity. The expression for the gravitational energy-momentum may be written as a surface integral in the three-dimensional spacelike hypersurface, whereas the definition for the angular momentum is given by a volume integral. It turns out that in practical calculations of the angular momentum of the gravitational field generated by localized sources like rotating neutron stars, the volume integral reduces to a surface integral, and the calculations can be easily carried out. Similar to previous investigations in the literature, we show that the total angular momentum is finite provided a certain asymptotic behaviour is verified. We discuss the dependence of the gravitational angular momentum on the frame, and argue that it is a measure of the dragging of inertial frames.

On reference frames in spacetime and gravitational energy in freely falling frames

We consider the interpretation of tetrad fields as reference frames in spacetime. Reference frames may be characterized by an antisymmetric acceleration tensor, whose components are identified as the inertial accelerations of the frame (the translational acceleration and the frequency of rotation of the frame). This tensor is closely related to gravitoelectromagnetic field quantities. We construct the set of tetrad fields adapted to observers that are in free fall in the Schwarzschild spacetime, and show that the gravitational energy-momentum constructed out of this set of tetrad fields, in the framework of the teleparallel equivalent of general relatrivity, vanishes. This result is in agreement with the principle of equivalence, and may be taken as a condition for a viable definition of gravitational energy.

The angular momentum of the gravitational field and the Poincare group

We redefine the gravitational angular momentum in the framework of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity. In similarity to the gravitational energy-momentum, the new definition for the gravitational angular momentum is coordinate independent. By considering the Poisson brackets in the phase space of the theory, we find that the gravitational energy-momentum and angular momentum correspond to a representation of the Poincaré group. This result allows us to define Casimir type invariants for the gravitational field.
