Optimized Perturbation Theory at Finite Temperature--- Two-Loop Analysis---

We study the optimized perturbation theory (OPT) at finite temperature, which is a self-consistent resummation method. Firstly, we generalize the idea of the OPT to optimize the coupling constant in lambda phi^4 theory, and give a proof of the renormalizability of this generalized OPT. Secondly, the principle of minimal sensitivity and the criterion of the fastest apparent convergence, which are conditions to determine the optimal parameter values, are examined in lambda phi^4 theory. Both conditions exhibit a second-order transition at finite temperature with critical exponent beta = 0.5 in the two-loop approximation.

Optimized Perturbation Theory at Finite Temperature --- Renormalization and Nambu-Goldstone theorem in O(N) phi^4 Theory ---

The optimized perturbation theory (OPT) at finite temperature recently developed by the present authors is reviewed by using O(N) phi^4 theory with spontaneous symmetry breaking. The method resums automatically higher loops (including the hard thermal loops) at high $T$ and simultaneously cures the problem of tachyonic poles at relatively low $T$. We prove that (i) the renormalization of the ultra-violet divergences can be carried out systematically in any given order of OPT, and (ii) the Nambu-Goldstone theorem is satisfied for arbitrary $N$ and for any given order of OPT.

Optimized Perturbation Theory at Finite Temperature

An optimized perturbation theory (OPT) at finite temperature T, which resums higher order terms in the naive perturbation, is developed in O(N) phi^4 theory. It is proved that (i) the renormalization of the ultra-violet divergences can be carried out systematically in any given order of OPT, and (ii) the Nambu-Goldstone theorem is fulfilled for arbitrary N and for any given order of OPT. The method is applied for the O(4) sigma model to study the soft modes associated with the chiral transition in quantum chromodynamics. Threshold enhancement of the spectral functions at finite T in the scalar and pseudo-scalar channels is shown to be a typical signal of the chiral transition.

Soft Modes associated with Chiral Transition at Finite Temperature

Using a novel resummation procedure of thermal loops, real-time correlations in the scalar and pseudo-scalar channels are studied in the O(4) linear sigma model at finite temperature. A threshold enhancement of the spectral function in the scalar channel is shown to be a noticeable precritical phenomenon of the chiral phase transition.
