Pure spin current in graphene NS structures

We demonstrate theoretically the possibility to produce a pure spin current in graphene by filtering the charge from a spin-polarized electric current. To achieve this effect, which is based on the recently predicted property of specular Andreev reflection in graphene, we propose two possible device structures containing normal-superconductor (NS) junctions.

Vacuum less global monopole in Brans-Dicke theory

In the present work, the gravitational field of a vacuum less global monopole has been investigated in Brans-Dicke theory under weak field assumption of the field equations. It has been shown that the vacuum less global monopole exerts attractive gravitational effects on a test particle. It is dissimilar to the case studied in general relativity.

Bianchi -I Cosmology with Magnetic Field in Lyra Geometry

A new class of Bianchi - I cosmological model with magnetic field within the frame work of Lyra geometry has been presented . Exact solutions to the field equations for the model are obtained . The physical and kinematical behaviors of the model have been discussed.

Phase Relations in the Li2O-V2O3-V2O5 System at 700 C: Correlations with Magnetic Defect Concentration in Heavy Fermion LiV2O4

The phase relations in the Li2O-V2O3-V2O5 ternary system at 700 C for compositions in equilibrium with LiV2O4 are reported. This study clarified the synthesis conditions under which low and high magnetic defect concentrations can be obtained within the spinel structure of LiV2O4. We confirmed that the LiV2O4 phase can be obtained containing low (0.006 mol%) to high (0.83 mol%) magnetic defect concentrations n{defect} and with consistently high magnetic defect spin S values between 3 and 6.5. The high n{defect} values were obtained in the LiV2O4 phase in equilibrium with V2O3, Li3VO4, or LiVO2 and the low values in the LiV2O4 phase in equilibrium with V3O5. A model is suggested to explain this correlation.

Strange baryon resonance production in $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV $p+p$ and $Au+Au$ collisions

We report the measurements of $Σ(1385)$ and $Λ(1520)$ production in $p+p$ and $Au+Au$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV from the STAR collaboration. The yields and the $p_{T}$ spectra are presented and discussed in terms of chemical and thermal freeze-out conditions and compared to model predictions. Thermal and microscopic models do not adequately describe the yields of all the resonances produced in central $Au+Au$ collisions. Our results indicate that there may be a time-span between chemical and thermal freeze-out during which elastic hadronic interactions occur.

The STAR Photon Multiplicity Detector

Details concerning the design, fabrication and performance of STAR Photon Multiplicity Detector (PMD) are presented. The PMD will cover the forward region, within the pseudorapidity range 2.3--3.5, behind the forward time projection chamber. It will measure the spatial distribution of photons in order to study collective flow, fluctuation and chiral symmetry restoration.

On the Ejection Mechanism of Bullets in SS 433

We discuss plausible mechanisms to produce bullet-like ejecta from the precessing disk in the SS 433 system. We show that non-steady shocks in the sub-Keplerian accretion flow can provide the basic timescale of the ejection interval while the magnetic rubber-band effect of the toroidal flux tubes in this disk can yield flaring events.
