Interaction of real and virtual $p\bar{p}$ pairs in $J/ψ\to p\bar{p}γ(ρ,ω)$ decays

The $p\bar{p}$ invariant mass spectra of the processes $J/ψ\to p\bar{p}ω$, $J/ψ\to p\bar{p}ρ$, and $J/ψ\to p\bar{p}γ$ close to the $p\bar{p}$ threshold are calculated by means of the $N\bar{N}$ optical potential. The potential model for $N\bar{N}$ interaction in the $^{1}S_{0}$ state is proposed. The parameters of the model are obtained by fitting the cross section of $N\bar{N}$ scattering together with the $p\bar{p}$ invariant mass spectra of the $J/ψ$ decays. Good agreement with the available experimental data is achieved. Using our potential and the Green's function approach we also describe the peak in the $η'π^{+}π^{-}$ invariant mass spectrum in the decay $J/ψ\toγη'π^{+}π^{-}$ in the energy region near the $N\bar{N}$ threshold.

Angular distributions in $J/ψ\to p\bar{p}π^{0}(η)$ decays

The differential decay rates of the processes $J/ψ\to p\bar{p}π^{0}$ and $J/ψ\to p\bar{p}η$ close to the $p\bar{p}$ threshold are calculated with the help of the $N\bar{N}$ optical potential. The same calculations are made for the decays of $ψ(2S)$. We use the potential which has been suggested to fit the cross sections of $N\bar{N}$ scattering together with $N\bar{N}$ and six pion production in $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation close to the $p\bar{p}$ threshold. The $p\bar{p}$ invariant mass spectra is in agreement with the available experimental data. The anisotropy of the angular distributions, which appears due to the tensor forces in the $N\bar{N}$ interaction, is predicted close to the $p\bar{p}$ threshold. This anisotropy is large enough to be investigated experimentally. Such measurements would allow one to check the accuracy of the model of $N\bar{N}$ interaction.

Real and virtual $N\bar{N}$ pair production near the threshold

Nucleon-antinucleon optical potential, which explains the experimental data for the processes $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p}$ and $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\mbox{pions}$ near the threshold of $p\bar{p}$ pair production, is suggested. To obtain this potential we have used the available experimental data for $p\bar{p}$ scattering, $p\bar{p}$ pair production in $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation, and the ratio of electromagnetic form factors of a proton in the timelike region. It turns out that final-state interaction via the optical potential allows one to reproduce the available experimental data with good accuracy. Our results for the cross sections of $e^{+}e^{-}\to6π$ process near the threshold of $p\bar{p}$ pair production are in agreement with the recent experiments.

Isoscalar amplitude dominance in $e^+e-$ annihilation to $N\bar{N}$ pair close to the threshold

We use the Paris nucleon-antinucleon optical potential for explanation of experimental data in the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow p\bar p$ near threshold. It turns out that final-state interaction due to Paris optical potential allows us to reproduce available experimental data. It follows from our consideration that the isoscalar form factor is much larger than the isovector one.

Kinetics of polarization in non-relativistic scattering

An approach is developed, which essentially simplifies derivation of kinetic equation for polarization in non-relativistic scattering. This approach is applicable for collision of projectile particles with a target for any spins of colliding particles. The most detailed consideration is performed for the case of spin 1/2 projectile particle interacting with spin 1/2 particle of a target. The solution of the kinetic equation for the case of zero initial polarization is presented.

Spin-dependent part of $\bar{p}d$ interaction cross section and Nijmegen potential

Low energy $\bar{p}d$ interaction is considered taking into account the polarization of both particles. The corresponding cross sections are obtained using the Nijmegen nucleon-antinucleon optical potential with shadowing effects taken into account. Double-scattering effects are calculated within the Glauber approach and found to be about 10-20%. The cross sections are applied to the analysis of the polarization buildup which is due to the interaction of stored antiprotons with a polarized target. It is shown that, at realistic parameters of a storage ring and a target, the filtering mechanism may provide a noticeable polarization in a time comparable with the beam lifetime. The energy dependence of the polarization rate for deuterium target is similar to that for hydrogen one. However, the time of polarization for deuterium is much smaller than that for hydrogen.

Polarization effects in non-relativistic $ep$ scattering

The cross section which addresses the spin-flip transitions of a proton (antiproton) interacting with a polarized non-relativistic electron or positron is calculated analytically. In the case of attraction, this cross section is greatly enhanced for sufficiently small relative velocities as compared to the result obtained in the Born approximation. However, it is still very small, so that the beam polarization time turns out to be enormously large for the parameters of $e^{\pm}$ beams available now. This practically rules out a use of such beams to polarize stored antiprotons or protons.
