B_K with dynamical overlap fermions

We report on a calculation of $B_K$ with two-flavor dynamical overlap fermions on a $16^3 \times 32$ lattice at $a\sim 0.12$ fm. The results are compared with the PQChPT prediction of quark mass dependence. The systematic errors due to finite volume effects and fixing topology are discussed.

2+1 flavor light hadron spectrum and quark masses with the O(a) improved Wilson-clover quark formalism

We present a summary of results of the joint CP-PACS and JLQCD project toward a 2+1 flavor full QCD simulation with the O(a)-improved Wilson quark formalism and the Iwasaki gauge action. Configurations were generated during 2002-2005 at three lattice spacings, a~0.076, 0.100 and 0.122 fm, keeping the physical volume constant at (2.0fm)^3. Up and down quark masses are taken in the range m_{PS}/m_V~0.6-0.78. We have completed the analysis for the light meson spectrum and quark masses in the continuum limit using the full configuration set. The predicted meson masses reproduce experimental values in the continuum limit at a 1% level. The average up and down, and strange quark masses turn out to be m_{ud}^{\bar{MS}}(μ=2 GeV)=3.50(14)({}^{+26}_{-15}) MeV and m_s^{\bar{MS}}(μ=2 GeV)=91.8(3.9)({}^{+6.8}_{-4.1}) MeV. We discuss our future strategy toward definitive results on hadron spectroscopy with the Wilson-clover formalism.

Non-perturbative improvement of the axial current with three dynamical flavors and the Iwasaki gauge action

We perform a non-perturbative determination of the improvement coefficient c_A to remove O(a) discretization errors in the axial vector current in three-flavor lattice QCD with the Iwasaki gauge action and the standard O$(a)$-improved Wilson quark action. An improvement condition with a good sensitivity to c_A is imposed at constant physics. Combining our results with the perturbative expansion, c_A is now known rather precisely for 1/a \gtrsim 1.6 GeV.

Two-flavor lattice QCD simulation in the epsilon-regime with exact chiral symmetry

We perform lattice simulations of two-flavor QCD using Neuberger's overlap fermion, with which the exact chiral symmetry is realized at finite lattice spacings. The epsilon-regime is reached by decreasing the light quark mass down to 3 MeV on a 16^3 32 lattice with a lattice spacing \sim 0.11 fm. We find a good agreement of the low-lying Dirac eigenvalue spectrum with the analytical predictions of the chiral random matrix theory, which reduces to the chiral perturbation theory in the epsilon-regime. The chiral condensate is extracted as Σ(2 GeV) = (251(7)(11) MeV)^3, where the errors are statistical and an estimate of the higher order effects in the epsilon-expansion.

Lattice gauge action suppressing near-zero modes of H_W

We propose a lattice action including unphysical Wilson fermions with a negative mass m_0 of the order of the inverse lattice spacing. With this action, the exact zero mode of the hermitian Wilson-Dirac operator H_W(m_0) cannot appear and near-zero modes are strongly suppressed. By measuring the spectral density rho(lambda_W), we find a gap near lambda_W=0 on the configurations generated with the standard and improved gauge actions. This gap provides a necessary condition for the proof of the exponential locality of the overlap-Dirac operator by Hernandez, Jansen, and Luescher. Since the number of near-zero modes is small, the numerical cost to calculate the matrix sign function of H_W(m_0) is significantly reduced, and the simulation including dynamical overlap fermions becomes feasible. We also introduce a pair of twisted mass pseudo-fermions to cancel the unwanted higher mode effects of the Wilson fermions. The gauge coupling renormalization due to the additional fields is then minimized. The topological charge measured through the index of the overlap-Dirac operator is conserved during continuous evolutions of gauge field variables.

Analysis of (K^-,K^+) inclusive spectrum with semiclassical distorted wave model

The inclusive K^+ momentum spectrum in the 12C(K^-,K^+) reaction is calculated by the semiclassical distorted wave (SCDW) model, including the transition to the Ξ^- bound state. The calculated spectra with the strength of the Ξ^--nucleus potential -50, -20, and +10 MeV are compared with the experimental data measured at KEK with p_{K^-}=1.65 GeV/c. The shape of the spectrum is reproduced by the calculation. Though the inclusive spectrum changes systematically depending on the potential strength, it is not possible to obtain a constraint on the potential from the present data. The calculated spectrum is found to have strong emission-angle dependence. We also investigate the incident K^- momentum dependence of the spectrum to see the effect of the Fermi motion of the target nucleons which is explicitly treated in the SCDW method.

Mobility edge and locality of the overlap-Dirac operator with and without dynamical overlap fermions

We perform a systematic study of low-lying eigenmodes of $H_w$ with various gauge actions to find the optimal choice for dynamical overlap fermion simulations, with which one may achieve lower numerical cost for HMC and better locality property of the overlap kernel. For this purpose, our study is made with emphasis on the distribution of low-lying eigenvalues and the mobility edge with and without dynamical overlap fermions.

JLQCD's dynamical overlap project

We present an overview of our project of large-scale simulations with dynamical overlap fermions. The first production run in two-flavor QCD is on-going using the Iwasaki gauge action on a 16^3 \times 32 lattice at the lattice spacing of 0.12fm with six sea quark masses down to m_{s,phys}/6, where m_{s,phys} is the physical strange quark mass. We briefly introduce our choice of the lattice action and simulation algorithm, and describe the present status of the production run. Preliminary results on the light meson masses and the static quark potential are also reported.

Dynamical overlap fermions in the epsilon-regime

We report on the two-flavor QCD simulation in the epsilon-regime using the overlap fermion formulation. Sea quark mass is reduced to ~ 2 MeV on a 16^3x32 lattice with the lattice spacing ~ 0.11fm. Topological charge is fixed at Q=0. We compare the eigenvalue distribution of the overlap-Dirac operator with the prediction of the chiral random matrix theory. Preliminary results on meson correlators are also reported.

Dynamical overlap fermion at fixed topology

We launched a project to perform dymanical fermion simulations using the overlap fermion formulation for sea quarks. In order to avoid the appearace of near-zero modes of the hermitian Wilson-Dirac operator $H_W$, we introduce a pair of extra Wilson fermions with a large negative mass term. Crossing of the topological boundary is then strictly prohibited, and the topological charge is conserved during simulations. It makes the simulations substantially faster compared to the algorithms which allow the topology change. We discuss on the finite volume effects due to the fixed global topology.

Nonperturbative $O(a)$ improvement of the Wilson quark action with the RG-improved gauge action using the Schrödinger functional method

We perform a nonperturbative determination of the $O(a)$-improvement coefficient $c_{\rm SW}$ and the critical hopping parameter $κ_c$ for $N_f$=3, 2, 0 flavor QCD with the RG-improved gauge action using the Schrödinger functional method. In order to interpolate $c_{\rm SW}$ and $κ_c$ as a function of the bare coupling, a wide range of $β$ from the weak coupling region to the moderately strong coupling points used in large-scale simulations is studied. Corrections at finite lattice size of $O(a/L)$ turned out to be large for the RG-improved gauge action, and hence we make the determination at a size fixed in physical units using a modified improvement condition. This enables us to avoid $O(a)$ scaling violations which would remain in physical observables if $c_{\rm SW}$ determined for a fixed lattice size $L/a$ is used in numerical simulations.

Determination of S17 from 8B breakup by means of the method of continuum-discretized coupled-channels

The astrophysical factor for 7Be(p,γ)8B at zero energy, S17(0), is determined from an analysis of 208Pb(8B, p+7Be)208Pb at 52 MeV/nucleon by means of the method of continuum-discretized coupled-channels (CDCC) taking account of all nuclear and Coulomb breakup processes. The asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) method is used to extract S17(0) from the calculated breakup-cross-section. The main result of the present paper is S17(0)=20.9 +2.0/-1.9 eV b. The error consists of 8.4% experimental systematic error and the error due to the ambiguity in the s-wave p-7Be scattering length. This value of S17(0) differs from the one extracted with the first-order perturbation theory including Coulomb breakup by dipole transitions: 18.9 +/- 1.8 eV b. It turns out that the difference is due to the inclusion of the nuclear and Coulomb-quadrupole transitions and multi-step processes of all-order in the present work. The p-7Be interaction potential used in the CDCC calculation is also used in the ANC analysis of 7Be(p,γ)8B. The value of S17(0)=21.7 +0.62/-0.55 eV b obtained is consistent with the previous one obtained from a precise measurement of the p-capture reaction cross section extrapolated to zero incident energy, S17(0)=22.1 +/- 0.6 (expt) +/- 0.6 (theo) eV b, where (theo) stands for the error in the extrapolation. Thus, the agreement between the values of S17(0) obtained from direct 7Be(p,γ)8B and indirect 8B-breakup measurements is significantly improved.

Topology conserving gauge action and the overlap-Dirac operator

We apply the topology conserving gauge action proposed by Luescher to the four-dimensional lattice QCD simulation in the quenched approximation. With this gauge action the topological charge is stabilized along the hybrid Monte Carlo updates compared to the standard Wilson gauge action. The quark potential and renormalized coupling constant are in good agreement with the results obtained with the Wilson gauge action. We also investigate the low-lying eigenvalue distribution of the hermitian Wilson-Dirac operator, which is relevant for the construction of the overlap-Dirac operator.

Parameter dependence of the topology change and the scaling properties of the topology conserving gauge action

The topology conserving gauge action proposed by Luescher is expected to reduce the number of non-smooth gauge configurations as well as the topology change compared to the conventional actions for the same lattice spacings. We report our quenched QCD study of the topological stability and the scaling violation of the static quark potential. We find that the the topology change is indeed suppressed when the parameter epsilon is of order one. We also find that the scaling violation in the static quark potential remain reasonably small in the parameter range of our study. Our study is done at the inverse lattice spacing a^{-1}=1.4-2.5 GeV with the lattice size L=1.0-1.6fm.

Overlap fermion with the topology conserving gauge action

We investigate the distribution of low-lying eigenmodes of hermitian Wilson-Dirac operator, $H_W$, with the gauge action whose form is designed to avoid topology change, as well as with the standard plaquette action. On the quenched lattices, the former gauge action exhibits less density of low-lying eigenmodes of $H_W$ compared to the latter at the same lattice spacing. We also show preliminary results for the dynamical simulation with two flavors of overlap fermions.

Kaon semileptonic decay form factors in two-flavor QCD

We present a calculation of the kaon form factors in two-flavor QCD with the non-perturbatively $O(a)$-improved Wilson quark action. In order to achieve a few percent accuracy in the study of SU(3) breaking effects, we use a set of double ratios of the matrix elements, with which the bulk of the statistical fluctuation and the multiplicative renormalization factors cancel.

Light hadron spectrum and quark masses in 2+1 flavor QCD

CP-PACS and JLQCD collaborations are carrying out a joint project of the 2+1 flavor full QCD simulation. Gauge configurations are generated for the non-perturbatively $O(a)$-improved Wilson quark action and the Iwasaki gauge action using PHMC algorithm at three lattice spacings, $a\sim 0.076$, 0.010 and 0.122 fm, with a fixed physical volume $(2.0 fm)^3$. We present analysis for the light meson spectrum and quark masses in the continuum limit, which are determined using data obtained from the simulations at the two coarser lattices. Our simulations reproduce experimental values of meson masses. The ud and strange quark masses turn out to be $m_{ud}^{\bar{MS}}(μ=2 GeV)=3.34(23) MeV$ and $m_s^{\bar{MS}}(μ=2 GeV)=86.7(5.9) MeV$. We also show preliminary results at our finest lattice spacing for which simulations are still being continued.
