Global Analysis of Dark Matter Simplified Models with Leptophobic Spin-One Mediators using MasterCode

We report the results of a global analysis of dark matter simplified models (DMSMs) with leptophobic mediator particles of spin one, considering the cases of both vector and axial-vector interactions with dark matter (DM) particles and quarks. We require the DMSMs to provide all the cosmological DM density indicated by Planck and other observations, and we impose the upper limits on spin-independent and -dependent scattering from direct DM search experiments. We also impose all relevant LHC constraints from searches for monojet events and measurements of the dijet mass spectrum. We model the likelihood functions for all the constraints and combine them within the MasterCode framework, and probe the full DMSM parameter spaces by scanning over the mediator and DM masses and couplings, not fixing any of the model parameters. We find, in general, two allowed regions of the parameter spaces: one in which the mediator couplings to Standard Model (SM) and DM particles may be comparable to those in the SM and the cosmological DM density is reached via resonant annihilation, and one in which the mediator couplings to quarks are $\lesssim 10^{-3}$ and DM annihilation is non-resonant. We find that the DM and mediator masses may well lie within the ranges accessible to LHC experiments. We also present predictions for spin-independent and -dependent DM scattering, and present specific results for ranges of the DM couplings that may be favoured in ultraviolet completions of the DMSMs.

A Higgs Boson at 96 GeV?!

We briefly summarize some searches for Higgs bosons with a mass of m_phi <= 110 GeV at LEP and the LHC. We discuss a possible signal in the diphoton decay mode at m_phi = 96 GeV as reported by CMS, together with a 2 sigma hint in the bb final state at LEP. We briefly review possible interpretation of such a new particle in various BSM models. We focus on possible explanations as reported within the NMSSM and the munuSSM. Conclusions for future collider projects are briefly outlined.

Supersymmetric Models in Light of Improved Higgs Mass Calculations

We discuss the parameter spaces of supersymmetry (SUSY) scenarios taking into account the improved Higgs-mass prediction provided by FeynHiggs 2.14.1. Among other improvements, this prediction incorporates three-loop renormalization-group effects and two-loop threshold corrections, and can accommodate three separate mass scales: m_{\tilde q} (for squarks), m_{\tilde g} (for gluinos) and m_{\tildeχ} (for electroweakinos). Furthermore, it contains an improved treatment of the DRbar scalar top parameters avoiding problems with the conversion to on-shell parameters, that yields more accurate results for large SUSY-breaking scales. We first consider the CMSSM, in which the soft SUSY-breaking parameters m_0 and m_{1/2} are universal at the GUT scale, and then sub-GUT models in which universality is imposed at some lower scale. In both cases, we consider the constraints from the Higgs-boson mass M_h in the bulk of the (m_0, m_{1/2}) plane and also along stop coannihilation strips where sparticle masses may extend into the multi-TeV range. We then consider the minimal anomaly-mediated SUSY-breaking (mAMSB) scenario, in which large sparticle masses are generic. In all these scenarios the substantial improvements between the calculations of M_h in FeynHiggs 2.14.1 and FeynHiggs 2.10.0, which was used in an earlier study, change significantly the preferred portions of the models' parameter spaces. Finally, we consider the pMSSM11, in which sparticle masses may be significantly smaller and we find only small changes in the preferred regions of parameter space.

Reduction of the Parameters in MSSM

In the present work we search for renormalization group invariant relations among the various massless and massive parameters of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We find that indeed several of the previously free parameters of the model can be reduced in favor of few, the unique gauge coupling and the gaugino mass at the unification scale among them. Taking into account the various experimental constraints, including the B-physics ones, we predict the Higgs and the supersymmetric spectrum. We find that the lightest Higgs mass is in comfortable agreement with the measured value and its experimental and theoretical uncertainties, while the electroweak supersymmetric spectrum starts at 1.3 TeV and the colored at ~4 TeV. Thus the reduced MSSM is in natural agreement with all LHC measurements and searches. The supersymmetric and heavy Higgs particles will likely escape the detection at the LHC, as well as at ILC and CLIC. However, the FCC-hh will be able to fully test the predicted parameter space.

High-Precision Electroweak SUSY Production Cross Sections at e+e- Colliders

For the search for electroweak (EW) particles in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) as well as for future precision analyses of these particles an accurate knowledge of their production and decay properties is mandatory. We evaluate the cross sections for the chargino, neutralino and slepton production at e+e- colliders in the MSSM with complex parameters (cMSSM). The evaluation is based on a full one-loop calculation of all possible production channels including soft and hard photon radiation. The dependence of the cross sections on the relevant cMSSM parameters is analyzed numerically. We find sizable contributions to many production cross sections. They amount to roughly 15% of the tree-level results but can go up to 40% or higher in extreme cases. Also the dependence on complex parameters of the one-loop corrections for many production channels was found non-negligible. The full one-loop contributions are thus crucial for physics analyses at a future linear e+e- collider such as the ILC or CLIC.

Precise prediction for the Higgs-Boson Masses in the $μν$SSM

The $μν$SSM is a simple supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (SM) capable of predicting neutrino physics in agreement with experiment. In this paper we perform the complete one-loop renormalization of the neutral scalar sector of the $μν$SSM with one generation of right-handed neutrinos in a mixed on-shell/$\overline{\mathrm{DR}}$ scheme. The renormalization procedure is discussed in detail, emphasizing conceptual differences to the minimal (MSSM) and next-to-minimal (NMSSM) supersymmetric standard model regarding the field renormalization and the treatment of non-flavor-diagonal soft mass parameters, which have their origin in the breaking of $R$-parity in the $μν$SSM. We calculate the full one-loop corrections to the neutral scalar masses of the $μν$SSM. The one-loop contributions are supplemented by available MSSM higher-order corrections. We obtain numerical results for a SM-like Higgs boson mass consistent with experimental bounds. We compare our results to predictions in the NMSSM to obtain a measure for the significance of genuine $μν$SSM-like contributions. We only find minor corrections due to the smallness of the neutrino Yukawa couplings, indicating that the Higgs boson mass calculations in the $μν$SSM are at the same level of accuracy as in the NMSSM. Finally we show that the $μν$SSM can accomodate a Higgs boson that could explain an excess of $γγ$ events at $\sim 96\, \mathrm{GeV}$ as reported by CMS, as well as the $2\,σ$ excess of $b \bar{b}$ events observed at LEP at a similar mass scale.

Likelihood Analysis of the pMSSM11 in Light of LHC 13-TeV Data

We use MasterCode to perform a frequentist analysis of the constraints on a phenomenological MSSM model with 11 parameters, the pMSSM11, including constraints from ~ 36/fb of LHC data at 13 TeV and PICO, XENON1T and PandaX-II searches for dark matter scattering, as well as previous accelerator and astrophysical measurements, presenting fits both with and without the $(g-2)_μ$ constraint. The pMSSM11 is specified by the following parameters: 3 gaugino masses $M_{1,2,3}$, a common mass for the first-and second-generation squarks $m_{\tilde{q}}$ and a distinct third-generation squark mass $m_{\tilde{q}_3}$, a common mass for the first-and second-generation sleptons $m_{\tilde l}$ and a distinct third-generation slepton mass $m_{\tilde τ}$, a common trilinear mixing parameter $A$, the Higgs mixing parameter $μ$, the pseudoscalar Higgs mass $M_A$ and $\tanβ$. In the fit including $(g-2)_μ$, a Bino-like $\tildeχ^0_1$ is preferred, whereas a Higgsino-like $\tilde χ^0_1$ is favoured when the $(g-2)_μ$ constraint is dropped. We identify the mechanisms that operate in different regions of the pMSSM11 parameter space to bring the relic density of the lightest neutralino, $\tildeχ^0_1$, into the range indicated by cosmological data. In the fit including $(g-2)_μ$, coannihilations with $\tilde χ^0_2$ and the Wino-like $\tildeχ^{\pm}_1$ or with nearly-degenerate first- and second-generation sleptons are favoured, whereas coannihilations with the $\tilde χ^0_2$ and the Higgsino-like $\tildeχ^{\pm}_1$ or with first- and second-generation squarks may be important when the $(g-2)_μ$ constraint is dropped. Prospects remain for discovering strongly-interacting sparticles at the LHC as well as for discovering electroweakly-interacting sparticles at a future linear $e^+ e^-$ collider such as the ILC or CLIC.

Slepton Production at e+e- Colliders in the Complex MSSM: A Full One-Loop Analysis

For the search for scalar leptons in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) as well as for future precision analyses of these particles an accurate knowledge of their production and decay properties is mandatory. We evaluate the cross sections for the slepton production at e+e- colliders in the MSSM with complex parameters (cMSSM). The evaluation is based on a full one-loop calculation of the production mechanisms e+e- -> slepton_s slepton_s' including soft and hard photon radiation. The dependence of the slepton production cross sections on the relevant cMSSM parameters is analyzed numerically. We find sizable contributions to many production cross sections. They amount to roughly 15% of the tree-level results but can go up to 40% or higher in extreme cases. Also the complex phase dependence of the one-loop corrections for charged slepton production was found non-negligible. The full one-loop contributions are thus crucial for physics analyses at a future linear e+e- collider such as the ILC or CLIC.

Likelihood Analysis of the Sub-GUT MSSM in Light of LHC 13-TeV Data

We describe a likelihood analysis using MasterCode of variants of the MSSM in which the soft supersymmetry-breaking parameters are assumed to have universal values at some scale $M_{in}$ below the supersymmetric grand unification scale $M_{GUT}$, as can occur in mirage mediation and other models. In addition to $M_{in}$, such `sub-GUT' models have the 4 parameters of the CMSSM, namely a common gaugino mass $m_{1/2}$, a common soft supersymmetry-breaking scalar mass $m_0$, a common trilinear mixing parameter $A$ and the ratio of MSSM Higgs vevs $\tanβ$, assuming that the Higgs mixing parameter $μ> 0$. We take into account constraints on strongly- and electroweakly-interacting sparticles from $\sim 36$/fb of LHC data at 13 TeV and the LUX and 2017 PICO, XENON1T and PandaX-II searches for dark matter scattering, in addition to the previous LHC and dark matter constraints as well as full sets of flavour and electroweak constraints. We find a preference for $M_{in} \sim 10^5$ to $10^9$ GeV, with $M_{in} \sim M_{GUT}$ disfavoured by $Δχ^2 \sim 3$ due to the ${\rm BR}(B_{s, d} \to μ^+μ^-)$ constraint. The lower limits on strongly-interacting sparticles are largely determined by LHC searches, and similar to those in the CMSSM. We find a preference for the LSP to be a Bino or Higgsino with $\tilde{χ^0_1} \sim 1$ TeV, with annihilation via heavy Higgs bosons $H/A$ and stop coannihilation, or chargino coannihilation, bringing the cold dark matter density into the cosmological range. We find that spin-independent dark matter scattering is likely to be within reach of the planned LUX-Zeplin and XENONnT experiments. We probe the impact of the $(g-2)_μ$ constraint, finding similar results whether or not it is included.

The LHC Higgs Boson Discovery: Updated implications for Finite Unified Theories and the SUSY breaking scale

Finite Unified Theories (FUTs) are N = 1 supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories which can be made finite to all orders in perturbation theory, based on the principle of reduction of couplings. The latter consists in searching for renormalization group invariant relations among parameters of a renormalizable theory holding to all orders in perturbation theory. FUTs have proven very successful so far. In particular, they predicted the top quark mass one and half years before its experimental discovery, while around five years before the Higgs boson discovery a particular FUT was predicting the light Higgs boson in the mass range ~ 121 - 126 GeV, in striking agreement with the discovery at LHC. Here we review the basic properties of the supersymmetric theories and in particular finite theories resulting from the application of the method of reduction of couplings in their dimensionless and dimensionful sectors. Then we analyse the phenomenologically favoured FUT, based on SU(5). This particular FUT leads to a finiteness constrained version of the MSSM, which naturally predicts a relatively heavy spectrum with coloured supersymmetric particles above 2.7 TeV, consistent with the non-observation of those particles at the LHC. The electroweak supersymmetric spectrum starts below 1 TeV and large parts of the allowed spectrum of the lighter might be accessible at CLIC. The FCC-hh will be able to fully test the predicted spectrum.

New SUSY Fits for the ILC and CLIC

We review the MasterCode fits of several incarnations of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). These include the GUT models based on mAMSB and SU(5), sub-GUT models as well as a model defined at low energies with 11 free parameters, the pMSSM11. The fit combines consistently measurements of Higgs boson properties, searches for additional Higgs bosons and supersymmetric (SUSY) particles, low-energy and flavor experiments as well as Dark Matter (DM) measurements. We predict the preferred SUSY mass spectra in these models and analyze the discovery potential of future e+e- colliders such as the ILC and CLIC.

Likelihood Analysis of Supersymmetric SU(5) GUTs

We perform a likelihood analysis of the constraints from accelerator experiments and astrophysical observations on supersymmetric (SUSY) models with SU(5) boundary conditions on soft SUSY-breaking parameters at the GUT scale. The parameter space of the models studied has 7 parameters: a universal gaugino mass $m_{1/2}$, distinct masses for the scalar partners of matter fermions in five- and ten-dimensional representations of SU(5), $m_5$ and $m_{10}$, and for the $\mathbf{5}$ and $\mathbf{\bar 5}$ Higgs representations $m_{H_u}$ and $m_{H_d}$, a universal trilinear soft SUSY-breaking parameter $A_0$, and the ratio of Higgs vevs $\tan β$. In addition to previous constraints from direct sparticle searches, low-energy and flavour observables, we incorporate constraints based on preliminary results from 13 TeV LHC searches for jets + MET events and long-lived particles, as well as the latest PandaX-II and LUX searches for direct Dark Matter detection. In addition to previously-identified mechanisms for bringing the supersymmetric relic density into the range allowed by cosmology, we identify a novel ${\tilde u_R}/{\tilde c_R} - \tildeχ^0_1$ coannihilation mechanism that appears in the supersymmetric SU(5) GUT model and discuss the role of ${\tilde ν_τ}$ coannihilation. We find complementarity between the prospects for direct Dark Matter detection and SUSY searches at the LHC.

Chargino and Neutralino Production at e+e- Colliders in the Complex MSSM: A Full One-Loop Analysis

For the search for charginos and neutralinos in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) as well as for future precision analyses of these particles an accurate knowledge of their production and decay properties is mandatory. We evaluate the cross sections for the chargino and neutralino production at e+e- colliders in the MSSM with complex parameters (cMSSM). The evaluation is based on a full one-loop calculation of the production mechanisms e+e- -> cha_c cha_c' and e+e- -> neu_n neu_n', including soft and hard photon radiation. We mostly restricted ourselves to a version of our renormalization scheme which is valid for |M_1| < |M_2|, |mu| and M_2 != mu to simplify the analysis, even though we are able to switch to other parameter regions and correspondingly different renormalization schemes. The dependence of the chargino/neutralino cross sections on the relevant cMSSM parameters is analyzed numerically. We find sizable contributions to many production cross sections. They amount roughly 10-20% of the tree-level results, but can go up to 40% or higher in extreme cases. Also the complex phase dependence of the one-loop corrections was found non-negligible. The full one-loop contributions are thus crucial for physics analyses at a future linear e+e- collider such as the ILC or CLIC.

Lepton flavor violating Higgs Boson Decays in Supersymmetric High Scale Seesaw Models

Within the MSSM, we have evaluated the decay rates for the lepton flavour violating Higgs boson decays (LFVHD) $h \rightarrow l_i l_j$ where $l_{i,j}$ are charged leptons and $i\neq j$. This has been done in a model independent (MI) way as well as in supersymmetric high scale seesaw models, in particular Type I see-saw model. Lepton flavour violation (LFV) is generated by non-diagonal entries in the mass matrix of the sleptons. In a first step we use the model independent approach where LFV (off-diagonal entries in the mass matrix) is introduced by hand while respecting the direct search constraints from the charged lepton flavor violating (cLFV) processes. In the second step we use high scale see-saw models where LFV is generated via renormalization group equations (RGE) from the grand unification scale (GUT) down to electroweak scale. cLFV decays are the most restrictive ones and exclude a large part of the parameter space for the MI as well as the high scale see-saw scenarios. Due to very strict constraints from cLFV, it is difficult to find large corrections to LFVHD. This applies in particular to $h \rightarrow τμ$ where hints of an excess have been observed. If this signal is confirmed, it could not be explained with the models under investigation.

Heavy MSSM Higgs Interpretation of the LHC Run I Data

We review that the heavy CP-even MSSM Higgs boson is still a viable candidate to explain the Higgs signal at 125 GeV. This is possible in a highly constrained parameter region, that will be probed by LHC searches for the CP-odd Higgs boson and the charged Higgs boson in the near future. We briefly discuss the new benchmark scenarios that can be employed to maximize the sensitivity of the experimental analysis to this interpretation.

Likelihood Analysis of the Minimal AMSB Model

We perform a likelihood analysis of the minimal Anomaly-Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking (mAMSB) model using constraints from cosmology and accelerator experiments. We find that a wino-like or a Higgsino-like neutralino LSP, $m_{\tilde χ^0_{1}}$, may provide the cold dark matter (DM) with similar likelihood. The upper limit on the DM density from Planck and other experiments enforces $m_{\tilde χ^0_{1}} \lesssim 3~TeV$ after the inclusion of Sommerfeld enhancement in its annihilations. If most of the cold DM density is provided by the $\tilde χ_0^1$, the measured value of the Higgs mass favours a limited range of $\tan β\sim 5$ (or for $μ> 0$, $\tan β\sim 45$) but the scalar mass $m_0$ is poorly constrained. In the wino-LSP case, $m_{3/2}$ is constrained to about $900~TeV$ and ${m_{\tilde χ^0_{1}}}$ to $2.9\pm0.1~TeV$, whereas in the Higgsino-LSP case $m_{3/2}$ has just a lower limit $\gtrsim 650TeV$ ($\gtrsim 480TeV$) and $m_{\tilde χ^0_{1}}$ is constrained to $1.12 ~(1.13) \pm0.02~TeV$ in the $μ>0$ ($μ<0$) scenario. In neither case can the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, ${(g-2)_μ}$, be improved significantly relative to its Standard Model (SM) value, nor do flavour measurements constrain the model significantly, and there are poor prospects for discovering supersymmetric particles at the LHC, {though there} are some prospects for direct DM detection. On the other hand, if the ${m_{\tilde χ^0_{1}}}$ contributes only a fraction of the cold DM density, {future LHC $E_T$-based searches for gluinos, squarks and heavier chargino and neutralino states as well as disappearing track searches in the wino-like LSP region will be relevant}, and interference effects enable ${\rm BR}(B_{s, d} \to μ^+μ^-)$ to agree with the data better than in the SM in the case of wino-like DM with $μ> 0$.

We evaluate the cross sections for the charged Higgs boson production at e+e- colliders in the MSSM with complex parameters (cMSSM). The dependence of the Higgs boson production cross sections on the relevant cMSSM parameters is analyzed numerically. We find sizable contributions to many cross sections. They are, depending on the production channel, roughly of 5-10% of the tree-level results, but can go up to 20% or higher. The full one-loop contributions are important for a future linear e+e- collider such as the ILC or CLIC.
